How safe is Yahoo!

My Yahoo! address book was recently hacked.

Everybody in the address book had all the other addresses added to their own Yahoo! address book and the contents of my address book were deleted.

Now, whenever I receive an email from anybody who used to be in my address book, their mail cannot be opened, indeed, I get a message like this:-

Has anybody else had this problem? If you did, was Yahoo! helpful? Yes, I am hoping for a reply from them and I hope I am not being foolish doing so..
