Question about this forum

I thought I was going nuts, I was sure that I made a lengthy post about Mass Money, but looking at my profile it vanished.

In most forums if you make an inappropriate post your post may be edited, at the very least you get a note from a moderator, but nothing, just gone.

Then I found a tab that I had left that had the post, it was here:

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ass-money.html

Now it just says:

"Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

This is a concern, I don't mind being told to edit my most but I hate it being deleted with notice or reason.

The mods run a tight ship here, and most of us think it's a good thing. Please check the sticky notes for the rules. You must have violated one, thus the chop.

Also, you'll notice in the rules that this is such a busy place that mods don't explain their actions. They are known to be very fair, balanced and reasonable, however.

    You are not nuts.

Your thread got nuked by one of the forum moderators. Since I did not see the post, I cannot comment on why it got nuked. But generally, those things get nuked for rules that were violated.

This thread will eventually get nuked too, because asking about why you got nuked is also something that takes a lot of useless space on the forum.

If you are offended that it was deleted without notice or reason, get used to it or stop coming here.

perhaps they could PM me with my original text and a note anout why it was nuked so I could edit it.

Nope. Ain't gonna happen. Just let it go.

That may sound harsh, but I'm suggesting it because I care.

        Will never happen.

When it got nuked, it was permanently deleted.

Multiply that two or three minutes of effort by the number of posts that get nuked here, and you may begin to grasp why they don't do that.

And that doesn't even scratch the surface of the potential back-and-forth follow ups.

Seriously. Geez, I would go insane trying to moderate a forum like this. Honestly, do you people realise just how much work these poor mods do? Be nice to them. They deserve it.

I remember that thread you're referring to. Here's my guess what happened: It belonged in the Product Reviews section, not here, but you didn't have enough posts at that time to post in that section, so moving it was not an option.

In addition, there were already at least two or three other threads on the same product already going on in the Reviews section, covering the same ground you did. We try to keep it to one thread per product, so that may be down to just one thread left there.

Now multiply the amount of time it took me to type this post and multiply it by the dozens of similar threads throughout a typical day -- plus multiply that by several times to account for people who argue about why the thread shouldn't have been deleted and the mods responding to that, and you get an idea of why the mods can't respond to each person. Keep in mind that the mods have their own businesses to run, and lives beyond that, too.

                Now THAT is funny!!!

I'd Thank you Ken, but as you may know, I frequently run out of Thanks buttons... LOL

Just drop Paul a note to remind him how 25 Thanks per day, sometimes is not enough....

I agree with Michael that if you have experiences with forums you should realize that every forum is different. They each have their own set of rules (both written and unwritten), their own way of dealing with things, their own atmosphere, etc.

Also, there is a line that most businesses draw between valuing a customer and dealing with a nuisance. No one should ever take for granted or feel entitled because they are a "valued customer". If someone has this attitude, it is very easy to cross the line into becoming a nuisance that will be dealt with.

                    Dammit.

Bill, I'm going to take up your mantle and start demanding more "thank you's".

Oh boy, here we go again!

    This isn't other forums.

It has been discussed to death why the "super mods" simply cannot, and WILL not offer explanations,.

You'll just have to trust me on this: there a lot of valid reasons why they don't do it.

Also, it is an unwritten rule (?), though it HAS been written as a response SEVERAL times, that you shouldn't post asking why your thread was deleted.

They don't owe us an explanation, though we may prefer one from time to time. The smart thing to do is just let it go.

Understood but they would avoid a lot more bad posts if they explained, it would shape their community.

Are you not allowed to review products on here then?

I am not sure of all of the nuances that go with this, but I do know that bad reviews will get nuked -- not to protect the seller, but to protect the community...

There is a lot that goes along with naming names with a terrible review...

It would make equal sense that if naming names on bad reviews is unacceptable, the same would apply to good reviews...

          What is naming names?

Mostly I just complained that the videos were too long and you could not access them or jump back to a specific point.

There were a few other things mentioned, clearly if this is not the place to do this I will do so on my own site, I think I own a domain that I can use for this purpose.

I tried to contact the vendors but no response so refund only option.

And that is the reason your thread was deleted.

When you mention the name of a vendor, that is naming names.

There are a dozen reasons why the forum should not allow this.

One: It is only your opinion that the videos were too long.

Two: It is only a problem for some of us when the vendor doesn't give us a pause or rewind button.

Three: Maybe you did not give the vendors enough time to respond.

Four: Bad reviews of a vendor could potentially get the forum sued, because it would appear that the forum supports tearing down their business.

And on, and on, and on...

Do put product reviews on your own site.

If you want to talk to people about making money, come here and honor the community standards that are in place for the benefit of the whole community.

Thanks for a brilliant and helpful response, much more useful than the bugger off we will be fine without you approach.

Wow it surprises me that in an industry that seems to pride itself on "my name is X" along with the plethora of spam.

Most forums just have a disclaimer that the posts are the responsibility of the poster.

For my part I thought the post I made was helpful to the author and the community, I even explained that I heard they had some server issues.

Oh well, at least I know now.

Ah ha! Now we see why the wise mods nuked your thread. You are a disgruntled customer.

The rules are very clear.... Complain to the seller, don't complain here.

If you read the rules first, you would have not written the "review" in the first place.

Obviously, we cannot comment on it, because we did not see.

Those are tasked with that stuff have enough on their plates to hold our hands all the time.

I had about 15 of my posts nuked on Friday, but I know why, and they deserved to be nuked. LOL

Just read over the forum rules as Don advised. You will likely come across some explanation there that makes it all come into focus.

15! What the hell did you do? Tell me so I don't make the same mistake.

If I lost 15 posts I would just go start my own forum with more free speech.

This may be the biggest and best forum just now, but once IBM was the biggest until a new pretender called Microsoft came along. Then Microsoft tried to avoid some anti competition hassle in the EU so it bailed out a company on the verge of going bust, it was a small little company called Apple.

Sometimes posts get deleted simply becuase they don't contribute to the thread. Sometimes they get deleted because a mod doesn't want a thread to too far in the wrong direction. Sometimes they get deleted for blatant violation of the rules. Sometimes they get deleted because somebody who is new here starts yelling and screaming about "free speech" in a PRIVATE forum!

Hey, go ahead. Start your own forum. Nobody is stopping you.

This is always an option and if you continue on with the 'questioning of how the forum is run, you may have no choice.

Next to using deleting posts to maintain the integrity of this forum, banning is also an option the mods use effectively.

        Thanks,

So much for free speech and freedom of the internet.

I am just looking for a little courtesy or direction of what was wrong with the post. If they banned me it would be their loss.

            I think we'll be fine.

Anyway, I would love to see this whole thread kept as a sample of why you should just let deleted posts go. rkcc4, you are demonstrating what happens. You start off with what seems like a fair and simple request, but it devolves into you threatening to take your toys out of the sandbox....

When there are already more than enough toys!

This is a privately owned forum. The owner and his representatives get to determine what's allowed here. Which is as it should be.

That comment may possibly make "them" feel otherwise.

Quite often, one's posts can be deleted through absolutely no fault of one's own. Once a thread has turned into a real mess (as well as one that's started with a "bad post"), it makes far more sense to take it away than spend half an hour editing it. Don't assume the worst, every time one of your posts disappears.

And, in a forum with over 250,000 members, don't expect an explanation each time, either.

Thanks for good advice Alexa, in my business I value every customer, even the most difficult. I am a member of a forum with 4m members and they have rules but they always tell you why etc.

I have been spoilt thus far!

                Just a thought.

As you have mentioned your vast experience at other forums, may I ask why you didn't read the rules before you even made a single post?

THAT would seem to be a normal course of action for somebody as experienced with forums as you are.

Like I said, just a thought.

I don't think anyone would argue that the mod thing is necessary, and sometimes threads need to be nuked. I just think it would be nice if we would get a notice telling us why our thread was nuked. Most times we don't realize we broke a rule, and if we never get told what we did wrong, we are not likely to learn.

Sure, it may be nice in some cases, but have you not seen the countless threads where this has been discussed?

The rules really aren't all that hard to figure out. Really. Yes, some of them make some time, but nothing that even a modicum of participation couldn't iron out.

Besides, let's say a mod offers an explanation. What do you think most people would do (not you, just in general)? Would they say, "Okie dokie. Thanks!" or would they say, "Understood, but...".

OR...would they start looking for ways around the rule?

It could be any of the above. But from my point of view, offering explanations would only create problems.

      All the best,

I totally respect the owner can take the forum where they want and define their own rules, I don't want a way around a rule, I want to learn the way things are done around here. Deleting means I learn nothing and irriates me because I spent my valuable time giving an honest view of a current product.

People come here for different reasons, I don't want to break rules, just give and take. When I joined it said I had to make 20 posts before I could reply to a post in a thread, so I thought I will write about my experience.

I would rather have posted that in the Mass Money thread but it would not let me.

Okay, sounds like a reasonable request.

For the record, the mods aren't singling you out. They VERY rarely give explanations, if at all.

Now, a lot of people (myself included) mentioned Rule #1. It basically says if you have a problem with another Warrior, then take it up with them, but not here.

HOWEVER, legitimate product reviews ARE allowed, but ONLY in the threads about those products. The catch is that you need 50 posts to comment in some sections of the forum.

So, you can still offer an honest review (if certain criteria are met), but you just need to wait until you have a few more posts. I can see how that seems unfair, but the 50 posts is meant to keep out dishonest reviewers, and that unfortunately means a few honest reviewers are kept out until thet enough posts.

          All the best,

Dude, if you are really concerned about free speech, then do go start your own forum.

This place serves a specific purpose as defined by its owner... Therefore you have no rights of free speech here...

My 15 posts that got nuked was when I and a few other Warriors got teed off about something and started flaming the crap out of each other.

    We deserved deletion!

Even mods had their posts deleted in that exchange, so there...

    Anyway...

    Rule #1 is very clear.
