Don't Forget About Conversation!

Hey,

My names William Tha Great, here from Houston, Texas.

When I visit many blogs today I'm shocked at how little conversation you are "allowed" to have on their site. For one, they have comments disabled in which case I more than likely won't be back. If that isn't the case they just don't provide enough ways for me to share the wealth.

If your considering taking blogging seriously you cannot by any means forget about conversation. That is like the back-bone behind blogging. It creates authority while also helping you develop into a better blogger. Conversation is a great thing, because it adds different views to your community. There won't be a tyrant that everyone's scared to contradict.

Through the conversation you engage in you will learn many new things. People will give you bright ideas that will help your future. Many times the conversation you engage in you will learn new things. People will give you bright ideas that will help your future. No one starts out knowing everything, but your community will help teach you. The more conversation you have going on the bigger the chance someone will join in.

Comments are an awesome way to keep the conversation going. A plugin has even been created to notify you when someone leaves a new comment. This is simply yet excellent way to start & keep up with a conversation. Don't be afraid to join into a conversation already going on. Most bloggers would be more than happy for you to join the conversation.

Every time I comment more than once per article I always receive a special thanks!

Take the time to reply to all your commenters for 2 reasons:

1. The Spiders Will Be Back- Every time someone leaves a comment on an article of yours it notifies search engines to crawl the page again for more information to process. This is helpful in building solid search engine rankings over time. The more times spiders crawl your page the better your chances are of ranking higher, because search engines will know the information is relevant.

2. Enticing People To Respond- Responding to your commenters will encourage them to come back and respond to you getting a conversation going. There are many times I leave a comment on a blog, then go back an leave another, because I value keeping a conversation going. If the author doesn't respond to my comment I won't know to come back.

Building conversation on your blog is always something you should work on improving. There is so much you can learn just by having a quick conversation. Don't ever be afraid to voice your opinions.

Do you believe conversation is vital to becoming a successful blogger?

Hope this helps!

God bless,
William Veasley

I sure believe conversation beats the heck out of articles in a forum.

Of course, most people turn off comments because of spammers, not because they don't want conversation. Having to delete 100, 500, or even 1,000 spam comments a day is huge erosion of time.

Make sure you're not trying to comment on old threads. I leave comments open for a week, then they are turned off for that post. Many spammers try to sneak comments onto old posts where they think they'll last longer, so turning comments off after a few days cuts down on comment spam.
