Well, what they're saying is that there are 2 zodiacs and this is nothing new. The current modern world only adheres to the zodiac with 12 signs. The other zodiac has 13 signs and works a bit differently. I forget which is what when it comes to constellations and such.

      What is a month?

Our calendar would actually split quite nicely into 13 months of 28 days each, with only one month needing 29. Seems much easier than our current system of 1 month with 28 (or 29) days, 4 with 30 and 7 with 31 days.

Also, what if some ancient astrologer decided there should be 2 signs per month? We would have 24 zodiac signs today, and nobody would think twice about it.

Furthermore, the signs of the zodiac don't align directly with our calendar anyway.

That being said, I think the bigger story should be why people believe in horoscopes in the first place. Or, why in this day and age such a story got any attention at all.

      Just sayin'

          Oh...if only that were true.

A lot of people say "they're just for fun" and mean what they say. Others say it because they're embarrassed to admit they believe them. Still others believe in them and have no problem admitting it.

Well, there are like 6 billion people on earth and only 12 signs! So, 500 million people should lead their lives the exact same way if horoscopes are to be believed! That's everyone on Facebook!

But, you're right, a lot of people here in India believe them. Like Mom, Dad and pretty much everyone over 40 I know.

Too bad, really. I was excited to be a Gemini for a little while.
It's not so hard to understand people triyng to make sense of their lives, but the problem with horoscopes is that they artificially direct people's lives (perhaps at the subconscious level). And I can't see how that could possibly be a good thing.

          Horrorscopes.

I always think it's funny when something odd is given credibility by some for years ....and then all of a sudden it's "well, it's changed". So all those folks who swore "it describes me perfectly" were...wrong. Oh well.

    YOUR HOROSCOPE:

You have a good sense of humor, though sometimes people don't quite get it. The moon's position means changes are ahead at work; use all of your resources to make it go more smoothly. Your love life isn't all it could be, but is poised to improve in the weeks to come. Be ready for an unexpected surprise on the 23rd.

    So...how accurate is it?

Old horoscopes are no longer valid. This brings up a whole new niche market for astrology adjusters who will correct the outdated signs and provide more accurate fortune-telling.

Sorry, but it's not real, so it's accuracy is subjective.

An actual horoscope could tell you that your father has a unibrow, or that your mom broke her left hip in her 20s. It's observable, repeatable, peer reviewable, blah, blah, blah...

So they are trying to tell me I have to turn into a Libra personality all of the sudden? Seems to me that there are one hell of a lot of books that need to be rewritten if they want to change a several thousand year old system around.

I've also wondered if the Horoscope system (the original, not this "new" system) was written to account for the calendar changes that have put us in a 2 month differentiation from when astrology started.

Another thing I note is that astrology seems to be based on energy levels and shifts - and it is an ancient "science" created in the middle East.......while the Mayan philosophy also centered on keeping track of different energies daily and living according to those energies. I'm not familiar with Mayan symbolism, but this concurrence of these two philosophies based on similar principles says that ancient civilizations had more contact than we seem to be able to track yet.

One thing I can say for sure - if you try to stuff me into Libra personality traits, the result ain't gooona be pritty.

There is no such thing as "Scorpio traits" or "Aquarius traits". People are people and we don't need a horoscope to tell us who we are.

Horoscopes and the zodiac are nonsense. However, if somebody chooses to believe nonsense, that is certainly up to them.

The horoscope I shared above seems pretty accurate to me, and I was wondering how other people felt about how it described them.

Anyway, people will believe what they want to believe, and no amount of facts will change their minds.

I've never much followed horoscopes other than to read what my traits are supposed to be. Except........once back in the 70's a friend had a real chart done for me as a gift. It was astounding. Astounding enough to be a bit unsettling. It wasn't the type of thing that someone could have looked up info on me and incorporated it, it was just dead on the money.

The guy used the exact coordinates of my birthplace, exact birth moment, and those of my parents - and a few other things that I can't remember. It was uncanny. It's also the only time I've seen anything remotely accurate dealing with my horoscope.

Michael - if all horoscopes were like that chart, we'd all be believers. Otherwise, from the logical arena -- I am a scorpio born on the 16th of Novermber. I've known two other people with my exact birthday (one was even the same year) and we were all different as night and day - no likeness in physical or mental attributes at all. Go figure.

Astrology is more about "when" you where born, than what "sign" you were born under.

For instance, a person born during between March 21 and April 20 will typically have a broader than average forhead, and compared to other people in their race, a ruddier complexion, and curlier hair.

Those are 6000 year old observations that won't change. So, changing the name of your sign won't change anything.

Other than this new bogus sign this is actually logical on one level.

Your sun sign or birth sign does progress as you age and for example using our astrological calendar i am a 3rd decan Cancer so I progressed to Leo when I was 12 supposedly.

However by sidereal astrology they go backwards so I am probably a Gemini by now. (which is what this new thing says I am).

I have a lot of stress right now and I don't want to argue about this - so stay off me please those who are obsessed with correcting everything I say or saying it is not valid.

MY OPINION which is as valid as anyone's is:

I think fortune telling is sorcery (evil) and I don't believe or even acknowledge anything that tells me about my future.

However sometimes I look backwards to see what is true and what is not (what already happened) - they are usually early or late with the timing but quite often they do point something out that really happened around that time.

I have studied astrology (not fortune telling) for decades and I enjoy it on a psychological level - analyzing personalities and relationships and I do find much of what they say is true about people -

KEEPING IN MIND that we have 12 houses all with different planets in different configurations (alignments, etc) - so the worst thing to do is generalize or stereo-type -- because you can't just say 'Cancer' this or that without taking into account - the date of birth, exact time of 'ascendancy', place of birth, and planetary oppositions, conjunctions, etc. -- which may not only totally change the plastic shallow descriptions in your National Enquirer/Charlatan BSer style astrology but completely negate it.

Whoever dreamed up the 'new' astrology - clever and creative I suppose - imaginative - possible - but I would equate it with churches who think they are in charge of who is a saint or not - utter bull****.
