I Go To The Hospital Just To Eat At The Cafeteria

I'm not kidding.

I go to hospital cafeterias when I'm not even visiting anyone at the hospital instead of going to a restaurant all the time!

Not only is the food cheap, it often better than most restaurants and the selection is always different. Plus you can actually see what you are ordering, and only pay for what you want.

Another benefit is you meet plenty of nurses and or medical staff etc.

Some of my local hospitals even think I'm a doctor or medical equipment executive or something.

I've even thought of taking a date to a hospital cafeteria, is that going too far?

I was thinking the other day when eating at one....why do they call a doctor's business his "practice"?

Shouldn't he have had all the "practice" he needs before he became a doctor?

Cheers,
Zac
P.S. Anyone else like hospital cafeterias?

I eat at hospital cafecterias quite often. We have medical "compleses" where I am whixh is basically a hospital with all the drs located off hubs of the hospital,so it nothing for me to see my kidney dr and then walk to the cafeteria.

Yes, I never leave a hospital without visiting the cafeteria.

I love the laid back atmosphere.

Plus, you don't have to tip the waiter!

? what a funny post ? "i never leave a hospital without visiting the café" - is normal just to hang out in a hospital ? so you can the go to the café ?

"anyone thought of taking your date to a hospital café, is it going to far, and what laid back atmosphere" ? what ?,

i am not sure what hospital café you visit, but the ones i have spend the last 20 or so years of my life in are surrounded by sick and terminally ill people or people dying from injury or disease, i have personally seen more children pass away from terminal illness than i can spot in any school yard at recess time on any given day, there would be days where i would see a little girl or boy happily eating lunch in the café and the next day we never seen them again as they had passed away, ? i am not sure any hospital café would be any different, you must be a hoot to take a lady on a date, a barrel of fun.

"some of the people think i am a doctor or medical equip exec" ? are you sure ? but then again you said "I am not kidding"

all i can say is, no comment buddy / no comment.

Yes. Too far, too far! Please don't ever do that. At the very least, you need to slowly ease them into "going out" to eat at a hospital cafeteria.

Not me. I rank it up to cafeteria at college. It got the job done but I don't miss the mystery casserole and tater tots.

Pretty funny, when I was younger we would go to the hospital for their fried clams, I don't know what they did but their fried clams were better than any sea food restaurant. They don't have it know, actually used to be a nice restaurant inside, now they closes that and only have a normal medical cafeteria that's pretty blahh when I tried it visiting someone there.

Well, first I wondered how you'd be able to top that on the second date. Thinking about it, I realized that probably wouldn't be something you'd have to worry about....

Zacman-I bet that the food offered in a hospital must be fresh, well balanced and the hygiene standards must be high. So in that sense it is a good choice.

Why even have to pay for it, when you can get hospital meals for free. Just call 911. They will pick you up anytime or anywhere, escort you in quickly like a celebrity, and even provide full room service.

Actually, the prize for calling 911 with no real emergency can be a trip to PRISON, and you can get PRISON food. If they DO take you to the hospital, expect 3+ hours before anything happens! ALSO, the first ambulance may cost more than your deductible.

ALSO, the food they feed the PATIENTS is often not as good as what everyone else gets. When I was last in a hospital where food was offered, they REFUSED to give me icecream, etc.... Ironically, they read that I had some heart related problem, and put me on a "heart healthy" diet that I was NOT supposed to have. It could have given me a stroke! I had to FIGHT to get a little ice cream. In their restaurant, they have MORE choices, and it is BETTER food.

At least you can be reasonably sure that it's hygienic.

      Well,

Just the other day, my daughter had a scheduled appointment at the doctors practice. (still don't know why they call it practice) which is at a local hospital.

Of course we both ate lunch at the cafeteria.

The main choices where, chicken and dumplings, which were almost all gone, so they must have been great. And then either chicken fried steak or stuffed green peppers.

I went with the green peppers and was not disappointed! They were actually the best I can ever remember having! My daughter said the same thing.

We both had mash potatoes and gravy and I built a salad from the SB.

Including both of our Pepsi's our total came to $8.05 Plus no tip needed!

I was so full I didn't even go back for what looked like some delicious carrot cake, or homemade pie.

There was no waiting for food, and there were plenty of hot nurses to wink at. LOL

Just a tip for you guys who are thinking of trying this, I at a minimum wear a sports jacket, and most of the time bring a brief case just to look professional.

I might even take out a note pad and jot down some thoughts I'm using on my websites etc. just to impress the ladies.

Yep, everytime I go it just makes me want to keep coming back.

There is another smaller hospital about 15 miles away I've not visited for some time. I think I'll try it soon.

Which is another good point. Many of you in large metro areas may find your very large hospitals lacking in the "home style" food many of our small to medium sized hospitals here in Central IL provide.

Next time your on the road, instead of Mcdonald's try the local hospital in a medium sized city. (many of them are right by the freeway) You may just get the best meal you've had in a long time.

      Cheers,
      Zac

Ate at the hospital cafeteria just this monring. I had an appointment with my kidney doctor and his office is maybe 100 yeards from the hospital cafeteria.

Anyway, Both my wife and I got scrambled eggs, bacon and a hash brown patty and a container of milk (1cup). Cost was about $5.50 for both. Unfortunately the food is always hit or miss and today it was a miss. I think we got there at the transition from breakfast to lunch so the food wasn't the freshest today. But still, two eating for that amount is ok with me. I've had better meals at McDonalds but I've also had worse!

That is a good point regarding timing.

If they lunch menu starts a 11, don't go in for breakfast at 1030, or lunch at 130.

It isn't short order cooking, they prepare in advance and set it out in hot trays under the "sneeze screens" as per HCR.

Breakfasts at cafeterias aren't usually the best you can expect.

Lunch is my favorite as it usually home style cooking like salsbury steak, chicken and dumplings, pasta dishes etc.

There's also balanced meals including veggies so much better than eating at McDonald's etc.

      Cheers,
      Zac
