Are You Addicted To Your Business??

When I started IM, my goal was that I was not going to be "one of those people" who spend all day and night sitting in front of a box...that the whole point of being self employed was being able to be in control of my time and having the freedom to do what I want, when I wanted... but I'm finding all I'm doing is sitting in front of a box...

So, I'm curious to know.....

What's the longest amount of time, that you have spent away from your computer?

Does the thought of not being there "just in case something happens"...prevent you from going on/ or enjoying yourself on a vacation?

I NEED to have access to my email at all times. Like you said Holly, "incase something happens". Even when i'm away from the desk I'm chained to it through various devices.

I'm becoming one of those rude people you see in the movies that write email while out for a romantic dinner. :/

I'm GLUED to my computer almost 24/7, and I love it. The time I'm not glued to it, I go out with friends, hang with family, run errands.... whatever. Even during that time, I'm connected with my iPhone, iPad, etc.

It's a curse but if you enjoy it and it makes you money then why the hell not.

Yeah, the box hardly sleeps, I hardly sleep. My sleeping pattern is completely... well, it's not a pattern really.

The #1 misconception when starting a business is that "i get to control my destiny" and that that happens right away. I haven't started a business yet that didn't take at least 80 to 90 hours a week for the first 2 years. Usually more.

That said, i just started seriously focusing on internet marketing as a business, so the longest i've been away from my computer has been about 10 hours...the length of time it takes to put in a days work installing a floor. Then its back to Business #3- the box LOL

    Not healthy is it ^^

    "24/7, 28 hours+ day, 24/7....people who are they..."

I see it as mas mismanagement really. You shouldn't be doing more than say 5 hours a day 5 days a week IMHO. My goal is 3 hours day.

"businesses should be managed not indulged"

You need to read the 4 hour wek and "work the system.."

I know some lke to be looked as "workaholics" but is it really why you got into this game?

Of course, I'm addicted to my business. Better than being an unwilling addict 8-5. A regular job makes you live your life around it, too.

My business is extreme terra at one end so I don't get in the trapped online mindset that some do. Go hunt a few gemstones, come back and do a trip report, sell a few of the stones, yack about it in my forum and put a few pics up here and there. It's madly entertaining.

Same as many posters here, My PC is on 24/7, and when I'm not sleeping, I'm in front of the box too!

Very addicted indeed...but It won't stop me from taking a vacation.

Nope. I used to say "I'm addicted" to my business because I thought sounding like a work-a-holic made me sound more professional or something. My business could close, I'd feel a little sad for a week and would probably move on to the next thing. But then again, I'm an entrepreneur, not self employed.
