I gave it a try being that I also do security research and would be really able to give there OS a run for it's money. And also able to reverse engineer their OS too, that might not be a good thought though. LOL.

My buddy already got his (HUGE Google nut) and its wellllll I wont give everything away but its a laptop with no internal hardrive, no OS (you just use the Chrome Browser) so you save everything in the Cloud, and it only comes in black. I'll stick with my XPS

Google tries hard to take over the world. No they want people have their OS and "Google computers", store all data at their servers etc. I wonder where it will stop.

You do realize how googles search engine came about dont you. It was originally designed for market research so that the owners could find a profitable market. When the search engine was done they looked at all the data it had given them and realized it would be more profitable as a service to others to use for their own market research. Thus google was born.

Either way I sent in my form we will see. I wouldn't pay for the crome os but I will take a free one to use if they so choose to send me one. Besides I getting ready to get a new laptop so this post came at a good time for me. Thanks for sharing.

For the fellow who asked how long Google has been taking applications, I think it started in December. Though some people got private invites ("cough" people who download and test beta builds of the chrome browser)

Also just to let you guys know...The new laptops going out are also shipping in Chrome, not just black. SOLID FREAKING CHROME....they look super slick.

Thanks for this info. I submitted my app. Now have you heard do you get a confirmation email or something letting you no if your app was accepted or rejected? And how long has it been taking people to get there's once you have submitted your app.

As soon as you fill-out the application it should refresh to a new page saying it was submitted successfully. If you did not get that confirmation...then my guess is you tried to sign up using a web browser other then Chrome....

That in itself is probably an instant disqualifer...lol I thought about mentioning that in my original post...but I thought I'd leave that one for anyone who applies to figure out...

Thanks for that. I did indeed submit it using chrome and it said submitted successfully. Was just wondering if there was something else you might get to let you know the notebook is on it's way. For the ones that said they received there's, how long did it take from the initial application submission.

According to their FAQ, the reason it's US only at the moment is that they have to get the hardware certified in the other countries. As soon as they do, they'll take applications from the ones they can get certified in.

Take it for what you will.
