I didn't pay any attention to Shakira until my baby son Lucas started dancing for the first time in his life, to her song "Waka Waka". It was at that point that I gave her music a serious listen. I have to say, she is impressive. She weaves a lot of influences from around the world into her music and makes it come across as natural and playful (vs. the often heavy-handed and pretentious effect of a lot of "fusion" music). Her dancing is as graceful and enticing as her singing. I don't think other pop stars come close to matching her range of talents and virtuosity. Lucas and I both give Shakira thumbs up.

Oh, not my Lucas. He's too sophisticated for that. Why, just the other day he was trying to munch on "A Picture History of Art." He's got good taste. If it looks good, it must be tasty, right.

thunderbird, I especially went back to find this post because I remember you saying about Shakira being graceful, but when I watched on youtube the first two songs mentioned above, I could certainly see that she is catching all what you want, but I would not call her graceful.
It would be really interesting to hear some other opinions...

Yes, Shakira is beautiful and cute. Anyone who says she isn't graceful, try belly dancing, lol. My baby Lucas's endorsement inspired me to give her a more serious listen. I'm starting to seriously consider relocating to Latin America, not for the girls since I am married (and not a playboy type), but for the overall cultural atmosphere. Latin America is rising and freeing itself of past shackles.
