Which came first the chicken or the EGG?
  • Profile picture of the author Rick McCombs
I think this answers that question, but others may not think so.

    (Gen 1:21)
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

The answer is easy. The egg came first. It had to. If we use evolution as our basis for the development of life and remove religion and creationist theory from the equation we can see that every generation is a minute mutation from the previous generation. So we first have the pre-chicken, which we will call P. P is not a chicken, P is the ancestor of a chicken. P lays an egg that has a genetic mutation that eventually hatches to become a chicken, as we know it today. Eventually, probably even now, those same chickens are laying eggs that will mutate and become something else, possibly an uber-hyper intelligent chicken that will enslave humanity and force us to eat dried corn off the ground and find out limbs delicious when fried.

Two nicely conflicting answers to the same question. Gee Gary, one of the Warriors is tuning up his flux capacitor and shitweasel reactors even as I am writing this. Very soon he will need a volunteer to send somewhere in time to see if he finally got it right. I might be able to arrange to send you way back to the approximate date that the chicken first roamed the earth and we can let you find out for yourself. Now - Thomas might not be able to keep this contraption working long enough to get you back so you might have to just roam around back there for awhile. Just in case there are any Raptors around - could you please take either a chicken or an egg and imbed it in a slab of mud with your name written in stones below it so when we find it again we will know for certain for all future generations, which exactly came first.

I've found out that the chicken and egg question is a valid description of most management problems and as well as every dilemmas.

"I want to start a business to make money, but I cannot start one because I don't have any money to begin with." Or the one about the work experience in job hunting, where the job requires requires a fresh graduate with experience. This circular logic is batty.

One concrete example I've encountered is when the department I was with was given that same situation. There was a budget for an opportunity, and you need to have trained people to fill that opportunity. However, the department cannot send anyone for training because we didn't have expertise in that field.

In such cases, the best answer would be to put your foot down and stick with the answer. Really, it doesn't matter what the answer to the question is, as long as you stick to it.

WoW I never knew a chicken could stir up so much fertilizer. Maybe that is what came first.

When chickens first roamed the earth, roads were made out of fertilizer. Quite by accident, the chicken crossed the road, got fertilized and laid the first egg.

I dunno. Only the chicken knows for sure, and she's not telling.

Which came first the chicken or the EGG?

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed.
The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile on its face.
The egg, clearly angry, grabs the sheet, rolls over, and says,
"Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."

Chicken came first because she really was very excited about laying an egg to start the generation process, question now stands this who was the first chicken.

Hmmm ... I never quite thought of it like that. Do you mean who was the first yokel that deflowered the chicken that laid the first egg? God only knows, because when he scrambled across the road, no one ever saw him again.
