Well, I've searched around and found nothing much on this topic here. The biggest barrier to me freelancing right now is probably health insurance. I've got a decent sized family and we definitely need health insurance.

How can I get health insurance at a reasonable rate if I'm doing internet marketing? Are there any trade organization, for example, that you can join and then get insurance? What about AARP/AAA, etc.?

Any ideas would be much appreciated...

Google NASE (national association for self employed) it is fairly popular among people who work for themselves. Hope this helps!

Very interesting. For anyone that happens to be reading this, here is the home page:

      National Association for the Self-Employed

And, btw, I'd love to hear any stories about experiences with service, rates, plans, etc. For example, I'm wondering if you usually have to do an HSA or PPO or how that works...

If you are making a lot of money from IM health insurance cost should not be that big of a deal. There are health plan comparison sites out there that I have seen that have very affordable rates for US residents.

The important thing is to get on a plan before you or a member of your family has any medical problems that would be considered "pre-existing". That's when your rates go way up and make it hard to find anything affordable.

Health insurance is important because coverage helps people to obtain medical care in a timely manner and improves their health and their lives. Some may believe that people still have access to medical care because they can always go to the emergency room. But even areas with well supported safety net care do not remove barriers to access to the same extent as does having health insurance.

First of all, get yourself an independent health insurance agent.

They will be able to quote you several plans from many different health insurance companies.

You should receive at least 12 different quote options from a combination of at least 4 different insurance companies before you select a company.

Never go with an agent that only works for one health insurance company, they can only quote you for the carrier they are licensed with.

Your rates will depend on the age of the insureds, preexisting medical conditions, prescription drug use, smoker nonsmoker, and your BMI (Body Mass Index).

Other factors that will be used in your rates are: your annual deductible amount, coinsurance amount 80/20 70/30 etc, annual maximum out-of-pocket, lifetime maximum coverage amount, number of office visits a year you want, hospital deductible, emergency room deductible, prescription drug deductible, maternity benefits, and whether or not you want mental health coverage.

Be prepared, health insurance coverage isn't cheap.

Always make sure what you are buying is a major medical plan, and not a limited benefit plan. Huge difference.

I have a web site where I explain a health insurance policy, broke down from begining to end.

It's old and hasn't been reworked in a few years, yep it's due for a face lift, but it will explain it in detail for you.

Good luck with your purchase. www health insurance ideas com
