Just wondering,

I probably do it once every 4 months...

Weirdly enough it seems to have a positive effect for getting stuff done!

Is it just me?

Have never changed it, that I can remember anyway. I might have
experimented with something a while ago, but if I did, it didn't last more
      than a few minutes.

I like my background just the way it is. I'm not even sure which one I
chose when I setup this computer. I think it's the Windows XP default, but
      I can't say for certain.

I do like to tidy up the desktop - and find a relaxing background image. Another thing that positively effects the way I get things done, is to organize & clean out my book-marks. However, cleaning out the bookmarks, is kind of like cleaning out a memory closet, or picture box. You risk spending a lot of time reminiscing. Which is not a bad thing, but it may be counter-productive.

    Never!

I always keep it nice and plain and free of distractions, like so (only with a ton of desktop shortcuts/icons - which I've hidden here!):

It's part of a series of ThinkPad-branded themes that came pre-installed on my Lenovo ThinkPad X201, when I received it. :p

Perhaps there's a market for such themes, Mike I guess you've got your next niche idea right there

Hah. Good idea for a product. I thought about selling them as "90s revival wallpapers", but they're a little too plain and not heavily patterened enough ... so I guess I'll just call it "underdressed themes for the easily impressed", and slap an extortionately high price-tag on it. :p

            Tr0pica1 beach3z 'ere I cumz.

Hear, hear! Don't we all? I could just use a vacation. Any sort will do - tropical, temperate or "ten-below".

I had my last computer about 12 years. I think I changed it once, and that wasn't until the last year.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.
