Hey, guys

New here so don't really know where to 'request' something from the forum. Just wondering if anyone else wants a 'who quoted me' function for the forum?

If you don't know what it is, it is pretty much just a button 'Who Quoted Me' and it will show if anyone has used your post in a 'quote', it's a lot easier to find out who has actually replied to you.

Post in this thread if you miss this button on other forums, hopefully an admin will see!

I don't think we need one.

Quoted posts are almost always done within the same thread. So, if you want to see who quoted you, then check the threads where you have posted.

Doing it this way encourages participation by making people more involved.

Also, it's already easy to see who quoted you if you read a thread. I mean, it's not like someone can quote you without you knowing who it is.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see any need for this particular function.

    All the best,
    Michael

I sometimes lose track of which threads I post in and some threads don't stay on the first page. I think it's pretty easy to install such a plugin for some usefulness.
Also, it locates the quotes for you, all you do is click on it and it will direct you and automatically set you to the quote anchor point. Just saves a lot of time
    Just an idea!

      Nothing wrong with sharing ideas.

It's actually very easy to find all of the threads you have posted in. Simply click on your name in any post you've made, then select "Find more posts by..." (You can do this for anyone if you want to read their other posts as well).

It will then show all of the posts you have made.

      That's how I do it.

What that tells me is you need to learn how to navigate the forum. There are easy ways to search for a thread or post or to find your own threads/posts.

It's simple to go to your profile - and click on statistics and on "recent posts" and see what you've replied to.

Or you can click on your forum name in any post you've made and quickly find where you've posted.

      Easy doesn't transpose to necessary.

The last comment makes a good argument for not making things too easy.

I think the old timers are really missing the point. The point is, to have easy access to the threads that QUOTE you, which means someone is having a conversation with you.

The OP is talking about being able to be taken directly to posts that QUOTE you, so you can easily read the responses specifically to you or respond.

All the suggetions above only describe how to find threads that one has posted in, and not about specific posts where one is quoted.

I'm tired of checking threads I've posted in to see if anyone is replying directrly to ME by quoting ME (and no one has) and being able to see if anyone has responded directly to ME and be able to go directly to those posts were people responded directly to ME would be a welcome addition.

    Hi Kurt,

My method for doing that may take a little time, but it works for me.

I click on the "Find more posts by..." link. Then I can tell pretty quickly which threads have activity, becauese those rise to the top of the list. Then I go to the thread and do a CTRL + F search for my name.

That helps to more quickly run through each time my name appears, including quotes.

Maybe not the most elegant solution, but I still see no need for this particular functionality. That being said, I wouldn't raise a fuss if it was added, but I'm not going to vote for it to be added either.

    All the best,
    Michael

Hey, guys. Who would've though this thread would turn into an argument, haha.
I know there are things such as 'new posts', 'find all users posts', 'subscribed threads' etc BUT these things don't directly take you to the post in which someone else has quoted and replied to a previous post that YOU made. This saves A LOT of time and it's very useful to replying to someone who directly quoted you, instead of finding the threads or posts that you made and going through the 5 million page thread to see if there was a quote made by your post!
