Anyone Remember Nat'l Lampoon The magazine

I'm not talking about the ...(I'll be kind)..marginal movies.

I'm talking about the magazine... I'm talking full on... non Pltcly Correct comedy.

I used to read that thing and wonder how they ever got away with some of it. ....Just a reminder...

One of my favorite sections was the letters...
Two, I still remember...The letter from the Japanese soldier, long after WWII that was hiding in a tree...until they transplanted the tree to a zoo in America...with him stuck in it.

The letter from the US airman manning the underground silos in Kansas..."If I hear, 'the corn is as high as an elephants eye' ..one more time...I'm pushing this button".

Those are extremely tame examples of what I thought was one of the funniest mags ever.

I'd give near anything to get a collection of those back.

    I never really got into the magazine, but I loved their radio hour, which was syndicated during 1973-74:

      I never have heard any of the radio hours.
      But I do have on Vinyl National Lampoon Lemmings soundtrack.
      I think I used to have Radio Dinner too,but alas, not anymore.

        The radio show didn't last very long, barely a year -- according to that link I posted, it was because it used up so much material every week it was straining the resources of the magazine. But there was some great stuff on it.

        Another interesting thing I just learned was that many of the writers on the radio show went on to start Saturday Night Live and the SCTV TV series.

      I liked the magazine and even some of the movies. BTW, I sold a joke website a couple years ago and found out it was National Lampoon who bought it to be part of their online network.

      Your the first one to comment on that...

      I always see on the news how some nutball has gone on a killing spree and he's always described as being a disgruntled employee, etc...

      So I sit there and ponder ( yea.. I can ponder, too), I don't think I have ever met anyone that was gruntled...so I thought I would be the first.
      Sometimes I get semi-gruntled, but never...ever...disgruntled

    If you can remember the sixties, you probably weren't there!! Hope these links help. I was also a big fan of Lampoon, MAD, Cracked, Furry Freak Brothers, Kurt Vonnegut, Lewis Grizzard, Jonathan Winters, Gallagher, Steven Wright. Funny stuff!! If you were a science fiction fan, try to find a copy of "100 Greatest Science Fiction Short Short Stories" edited by Isaac Asimov.
    Anyway, enjoyed the post, revived a few brain cells!!
