We have looked at tiny houses already. I wouldn't live in one with all of the kiddos, but I would after the kids are grown.

If you can haul it on a flatbed and like to migrate to different parts of the country seasonally it probably would be more comfy than an RV.

That's a growing trend because of enviromental and economic reasons. In fact recently I came across this niche just by looking into domain names. It looks like it is going to be a very large niche in the building industry. And yes, I could definately live in a small house. Especially if it was out by a beautifil lake like in the homepage of that site.

65 sq feet? Boy, that sounds like fun

But if you want some real fun, think of 'living' in a bar in Japan. (They have 6' "beds" that you can sleep on that slides into a wall. I think it it is 6x3 feet, so about 18 square feet...)

I don't mind small spaces but I'm taller than the ceiling height so I don't think my back would like living in one.

Yeh, on second look it is perhaps a bit too small. I could live there a few nights maybe, but more than that... I don't think so. I would go for one of their larger models.

I seems more like a "clubhouse" than a real house. I actually saw a special on Discovery or HGTV or some network like that about people that live in small houses and environmentally friendly homes.

As much as I would love to save money and the environment, I couldn't live in something that small.

I could do it but, I'm not willing to spend $37,000 for it! I wouldn't even spend the $16,000 to build it myself. That's way to much money. Around here where I live I can buy a full sized house for those prices. Everybody is foreclosing on there houses because of the auto industry.

Yes, seriously! Detroit is a mess even the surounding areas are suffering! The city I lived in went from roughly 40,000 people to 20,000 people. Luckily there are still some thriving industries and businesses around here but not enough to employ the thousands of people that are getting laid off.

I just did a housing search in yahoo with a price range from $0-$40,000 and it can up with 1689 houses for sale.

  One of the neater housing solutions I've seen recently is reusing old steel cargo containers from ships - they can be connected, stacked in various ways.
  
  The Katrina cottages are much nicer and bigger and the smaller versions (600-850 sq ft) could be built for about $30k. Some people who were given the cottages by FEMA after the storm are getting great deals in purchasing them now. I've wondered if the government will make extras available to the public for purchase (or to cities, etc) or will just store them somewhere and let them disintegrate. Would be a great auction for affordable housing if they'd sell them.

I don't even think my bed would fit in there. But if you really save on bills like utility bills, that will do it. Probably $15 a month electric bill.

Some ppl are actually doing stuff like this-living in tiny houses and become self sufficient for environment reasons or money reasons or fear of gov. reasons or just to be self sufficient and not dependent.

I don't mind staying in a "Lilliput" house like that if it is attached to a lorry on its way to a long, long road trip. It looks rather cozy and clean.

Just buy one this niches's first how to book, "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau. You can build your own house much cheaper. Thoreau outlines a two-year and two-month stay at a crude cabin in the woods near Walden Pond, Massachusetts. He meticulously records his expenditures and earnings, demonstrating his understanding of "economy," as he builds his house and buys and grows his own food. For a home and freedom, he spent a mere $28.13.

  Set them up on the North Shore Lake Superior
  and rent them out to over stressed IMers! (laugh)
  
  The Z house resembles the shipping containers you see on the large
  Salties (ships) that bring in goods from all over the world into the Midwest.
  
  They stack one on another sometime 20 high! Cranes lift them off the ship and right onto a semi truck (same size as semi trailer)
  
  People have been buying these containers to live in!!
  
  Same deal as Tiny House--Cheap Lake Living.
  
  One guy.....I kid you not, made an apartment out of one these shipping
  containers and ships himself all over the world!
