Way Off Topic! Prescriptions in USA Question

Hello,

Since there are a ton of people who are self employed I wanted to ask a question.

I bought health insurance here in the USA and I pay $400 a month (for my wife and I)

I have a prescription for asthma and the one inhaler cost me $290. When I use to have a 9-5 job the price was only $50.

My question: Does anybody have any experience with buying prescriptions from places like India? I see I can get the same prescription for $50 in India.

Has anybody in Warrior Forum done this? Can anybody give me some suggestions or recommendations?

Health Insurance in the United States is very discouraging...

THAT problem isn't really insurance, but the drug companies. Because costs and regulations are HIGHER in the US, and they feel they CAN, they charge a LOT! HECK, I got one thing that cost over $300/month, I believe about $50 with insurance, and going to generic, and another type of application, the cost dropped to about $14/month. I'm going another route, so I would have to file for reimbursment myself, and haven't bothered yet. But that shows how things can vary a LOT, just because of the manufacturer, etc...

As for going to india, WATCH OUT! Some companies may be FINE but others AREN'T! With MOST prescriptions, there are unique characteristics. LEARN THEM, and LOOK for them. The characteristics are things like COLOR, SIZE, SHAPE, WRITING, SCORING, PATTERNS. It is a good idea to look for them anyway. Sometimes, mistakes are made. On HOUSE, a patient had a DISASTER happen a few times, and house decided that a visitor must be smuggling a drug that created the problem. THEY WERE! The two drugs looked ALMOST identical, and the pharmacist or dispenser didn't notice.

HECK, the pharmacist tried to sneak the wrong drug to me! Instead of the medium white tablet with a score on one side, and the dose on the other, it was like a small pink tablet with NO score.

If need be, ask your local pharmacist and/or doctor. They SHOULD know. Even some trusted sites on the internet can help. MOST counterfeits apparently don't bother trying to copy.

And if you follow Steve's advice about identifying pills, which I would, because he's right.

Here is one of the more reliable identifier sites online.

I have been around the world a few times and counterfeit everything is common in many countries.

Thanks for replying everybody. The prescription is an Advair inhaler. It's still illegal in the U.S. to get meds from overseas, but I've read that the FDA is relaxed about it as long as you have a real prescription for the drug you're getting...

No offense to anybody from Mexico, but I don't trust getting any prescriptions there. There are way too many scams down there and lots of people who have received fake medications from there...

EXACTLY, and INDIA is the SAME way! Actually, of all the cheap places to go for drugs, CANADA might be the best. For the others, you have to take your chances and CHECK, and hope everything is right, or you could be dead soon after taking that pill. Canada probably doesn't have a black market for most prescription drugs, and you can easily communicate with most of them. And even if they KNOW you are an american, and HATE americans, they will probably try to treat you right.

I have seen too many bad things about India and Mexico. Unlike canada, many there will treat you as a "mark", and may give you a BAD deal.

That's NOT to say you can get quality stuff in India or Mexico. You CAN! You just have to wade through a lot of garbage to find the diamonds.

Look for forums on this topic, where you can find reviews of online drugstores. And if you do order online, use a low-limit credit card and watch your statement for unauthorized charges in the future, because your number may be stolen. Yes, it happens.

The sites I found, while looking for a drug I needed before I could see a doctor, had NO SSL!!!!!!!! I figured that if they were THAT STUPID, CARELESS, and THOUGHTLESS with such a SIMPLE and OBVIOUS thing, then why should I trust them with drugs?

I gave up. The doctor DID prescribe the same drug LATER, but it was too little too late. So now I am going another route. 8-( Less favorable and more expensive. $16/month the rest of my life versus maybe $15/month for a year. 8-(

A lack of SSL makes getting credit card info EASY! They make gadgets that can pull EVDO or WIFI info FROM THE STREET! You could place an order at starbucks, and a person could be nextdoor at a barnes and nobel and just intercept your order.

I wasn't jumping down your throat, I simply gave one reason why your CC info may be used from such sites.
