Can somebody tell me how Pia got booted off American Idol?

Seems like pure craziness to me

stupid viewer! I was shocked - fully expected Stephano to go - he's good but not up to the level of several others

I was surprised at both Jacob and Pia being in bottom three - until this week I thought the voting audience was choosing fairly well. I think we're into the "he's so cute" group of voters now so no telling what will happen next.

I think Pia has an excellent career ahead, though - but the audience sure messed up this week.

I think Pia's problem was she was just too mellow and a tad to young to know how to perform. Had she kicked it up a notch, she might still be there.

All in all - this is one hugely talented group of people this season. From here on in, it's not going to be pure skill judging. They all have tons of that -- from now on in, it's a popularity contest. Who can win the most fans. While our favorites might get the boot, it's hard to feel sorry for them because the whole top 11 will be on tour this summer, living their dreams, making money, and getting contracts. These 11 have it made now. As good as each of them are, they are all gonna be just fine after that tour.

Are you thinking Thia or Pia?

I thought Pia was a brilliant performer and wasn't shy. Thia was for sure. Pia is the one who got kicked off tonight!

Yeah Kenster - I got the name wrong. I can't believe that Pia was knocked out over Stephano - must be a bunch of 12 and 13 year old kids voting. Like I said though - she's gonna be on tour and she's probably already got people interested in contracting her. Jennifer Hudson was booted too and she's not hurting much.

With Pia out - I think it's going to be James or Scottie for the win - unless the audience screws up royally again.

I think several of this group will end up with good careers from the show's exposure, though. This year certainly has not been the amateur hour they had last year.

This strikes me as the most talented group of American Idol contestants ever. I predict Scotty McGreery will win. His single and style seems right to appeal to lots of voting demographics.

(Ryan Seacrest put it very well when introducing Iggy Pop, lol: "I don't know if you're ready for this.")

We love Scotty at our house as well. However, gotta admit that the limp-wristed way he holds his mic is starting to grate at my nerves. Is he singing or playing a harmonica... or eating a ham sandwich?

No matter. The kid can flat-out sang!

As for Pia, either the show has gone the route of professional wrestling and this was just a horrible script -- or America was intimidated by her beauty. Maybe she was just toooooo perfect. My only critique would be that she relax that poise thing a bit. Just a bit tooooo refined. Other than that, can't see how she could possibly have LESS votes than the other two that were in the bottom 3... lest they be saved by the sheer numbers in the voting demographics.

It's hard to say. Were any of the contestants more deserving of the boot? Maybe Paul McDonald, even if he is being endorsed by Vote for the Worst? I wonder if Steve Tyler's odd comment about guys-in-bars drooling over her might have jinxed Pia and framed her in a way that could work against her. I actually predicted she'd be voted off because her personality wasn't really showing, her moves too mannered. It looked like the talent section of a Miss America beauty pageant to me.

My thoughts exactly. Her dance moves and mannerisms were attractive, but it was almost like watching a mannequin. Too "rehearsed" and mechanical. If she would have just opened up and let loose, no one would have had a chance.

LOL - I saw Iggy back in the late 60's early 70's - he was quite popular in the Detroit area before he went real famous. Back then he was adorable. He's really lost steam. Still trying to jump around stage and not enough wind or flexibility to pull it off well.

Sigh - sucks to see kewl and crazy rockers get old.

Sick about PIA getting eliminated from Idol, but she is in the Idol tour and I think those kids make alot of money from that, so I'm not crying for any of them.

She'll do well. Look at all the other contestants that have gone on to great careers in music so far and did well....Daughtry, Kelli Pickler, Jennifer Hudson, the list goes on. Many are performing on Broadway, and traveling shows.

The only bad entertainment on Idol this year - are the guest appearances. I wanted to scream "put your shirt on!". I changed the channel for a few minutes during Iggy's romp.

I've noticed that, too, Kay. I've been disappointed with every guest on there this season. Not sure what's up with things when the contestants are sounding so much better than the pro's. Iggy is basically out of it - he's just an icon so his performances are basically more nostalgia than entertainment. Reminded me of the time I went to see Ozzy's "retirement sucks" concert and he had put his back out the day before and had no life on stage. It was Ozzy, but it wasn't.

I mike holding and stage movements can be learned by anyone - it's the sound and the connection to the music that counts.

Allowing multiples votes per person (50?) creates teen block votes which have little to do with talent and more do with "oohing and aahing" and teen heartthrobs.

Idol would do better to adopt a contest type voting system of one vote per person. Numbers would be lower but voting results would be more "reality" based.

Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records signed her to a recording contract less than 24 hours after she left American Idol. She will be just fine!

Did anyone see Pia on Jay Leno last night? I thought she knocked it out of the park. Just read the reply above me. I knew she'd get picked up quickly!

Somehow I think they will all do well. I am hoping for either Lauren Alaina or James Durbin will win this year.
