Will and Kate's wedding is almost upon us and most people in the UK seem uttterly bored by it already. There isn't much enthusiasm here for this great royal event. The media is, of course, trying to milk every ounce out of it, but the great British public are more excited by a day off work than the actual wedding.
I just wonder what people around the globe make of it......and, is there a marketing spin-off Ive missed
  • I haven't actually been watching, but it's on every channel of the television all day long. I can't wait until it's all over with. The only thing I've seen marketed, personally, is an 'exact replica' of her wedding ring but, like I said, I haven't really been paying much attention.

I'm also not paying much attention on this royal wedding. I think I rather be playing RIFT than watching the whole ceremony.

You're from the UK, Loz. Who is paying for this multi-million dollar wedding? I've heard that both families are paying, but I find that hard to believe. I would be more inclined to believe the tax-payers are footing the bill.

Yeah, that's exactly what I figured. Pretty darn sad considering that family has been nothing but a figurehead for a looooooong time now. And it's not like they don't have the money to foot the bill, either.

The past week or so has been crazy - between Easter, the Royal Wedding, and the coming May Day bank holiday, nobody is doing any work! Some of my friends have ended up with 11 days off.

It's nice weather though, so holidays are appreciated. Even my friends that aren't Royal Fans are pleased about the wedding.

When I watched TV I always seen the ad about the royal wedding, I think that most awaited part is the wedding gown of the bride, for me I think the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles way back was amazing, nothing compares! I hope they can reach the high expectations of the public.

Most realistic estimates place the final cost for the wedding around 12 million pounds, all of which will be covered by private funds. However, the state may have to pay a hefty sum to cover public services like increased police presence for security and traffic detail.
Prince Charles, the Queen and Kate's parents are kicking in large sums for the wedding.

I wish them well and I admire their plans to live without pomp and servants for now. But at the same time I'm not all that interested in the wedding itself. Seems to be as much excitement (if not more) in the US as in the UK - but perhaps that is because Diana was so popular here and it carries over to Kate.

Living in a country where the leadership changes every 4-8 years and jockeying for positions of power is the daily event - I've always admired the Brits for their stable (if a bit stuffy) monarchy that has so much history and tradition.

Just a view from the far side of the pond....

    Well, it's all over now.

I don't mind admitting it, but at the end there were tears streaming down my face.

Now, before you think I've turned into a soppy romantic, fear not.

The tears were caused by following the Twitterstream commentary of the event.

I haven't laughed so much in years.

I'm no royalist, and am not really bothered one way or the other, but good on 'em! I'd rather watch a bit of Will & Kate "celebrity", than any sports or reality TV crap.

Whatever one's opinion, the huge crowds served to indicate what the public at large thinks - in spite of income tax funding, and the general state of the UK

Hey look, let's face it, there has been so much destruction, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, tornadoes etc., and this whole wedding gave us all a chance to just celebrate a couple of people who love each other.

I'm not a royalist at all, as I think their riches could help the people out of recession, but besides all that, it was a great experience for most people, and for those that didn't think much of it--that's up to them : )

Those moaning about taxpayers footing the bill should know that the revenue surplus from the Crown Estate that the Queen gives to the treasury is usually about £200 million per year.

I totally agree, there's so much more important issues to discuss rather than just paying attention to a couple's wedding.

May be because they're the so called "royal family" and a very well known people all over the world wherein a lot of people give importance.

Yes it's the same old media tactic of building something up more than it is.

The roayl wedding is a great spectical for the UK and they both seem reasonably down to earth but it won't paper over the cracks of our Monarchy that's for sure. They are so far away from reality it's untrue and long gone are the days when we actually cared for them.

Yes, they are a new lease of life for our royal family but does anyone really care anymore? (i know i don't)

Great that so many Warriors have responded to my thread on this. The fact is that now just 4 days after the wedding, it's all but forgotten. It proves to me that it was really a establishment/media event, I've no doubt about it. Theres no real love for the Royals here in Britain, but the media and establishment just won't accept it, and theres always some gullible folk who'll believe and follow anything they're told to. If anything goes wrong with this marriage, then its curtains for the Royals you can be sure of that!

I'm still happy for Will and Kate and think marriage is a good thing. But when will the media ever put something that is relevant to our society.
