Weirdness you encounter in the boondocks

So my niece and I were out hunting turquoise in the wide open spaces in Nevada -- where many "towns" are only 20 - 40 people and every hundred or 150 miles there's a metropolis of around 25,000.

It was getting close to dark and we were off to where we'd decided we were going to camp for the night.

This guy in a huge truck came hauling butt around us.......and he had a doll - a baby doll, hung by the neck dangling from his bumper. That freaked my niece out very nicely for the night. We watched to make sure he wasn't turning on the road we were going to take. Neither one of us was thrilled about the idea of meeting that dude face to face during the night. LMAO.

Anyhow - that trip was strange all around as far as the people went. But the scenery and fresh air and mountains were pretty awesome.

    Good writing Sal :p

Yeah, Sal, there's some, um, really interesting types out there in the great nowhere.

At least he didn't have the baby doll stuck to a plank with a large spike...baby on board...get it?

Be careful when you hear the sound of the chainsaw.

I used to live in the town in Colorado upon which the series South Park was based. One day, some guy snapped and drove a bulldozer into the post office.

When the Denver papers interviewed the sheriff, he delivered one of my favorite lines ever:

      "South Park's not a cartoon. It's a documentary."

LOL - I've been to South Park. Used to go by it on the way to Ruby Hill and Mt Antero where I used to like to climb. Well, maybe I'm scary, too - I kinda liked the people out that way.

Actually there was a guy in Wyoming when I lived there (near Cody) that drove his truck through the front of a Mormon Church. He went to get his daughter out - she was seeing a guy who started taking her to the church. When it came out in the paper they actually said that he was ticked off because he couldn't smoke in church. LMAO.

      Uh, yeah. I get it.

Um.........Please let me know when you are going to be out tooling around in the West - and where. I think I might want to be elsewhere at the time.

You know me well enough to know I don't get the willies easily, Thom.
This did. Maybe it's a "had to be there" thing. The truck, the guy driving it, the doll with a noose around its neck......... Turst me, it was weird. It didn't get me as bad as it did my niece, but it did get me.

True Sal. But with my low expectations of the human race, I expect things like that. Not seeing something like that would seem weird

LOL - Thom, if you could have SEEN where we were and then read that comment again. Hahahahahahahahaha. Holy cow. It was straight out of a movie. Like I said - it gave me the willies..........but it scared my niece crapless.

My niece is very sheltered. She still thinks I wear a cape and a sexy tight body suit in my "not around" hours because I dropped a dude hard that tried to steal my purse out here a few weeks ago. I had to go through major contortions to find a place to camp for the night so she wouldn't be scared after that guy drove by.

It sounds like a scene from Jeepers Creepers. I though there were some weird ones around my neck of the woods, but that takes the cake.

I'm not sure which would be worse, the inbreds from The Hills Have Eyes or Wrong Turn. One is desert and one is woods. They're going to ruin every single place on earth for some people. No oceans because of Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, the woods and desert from these, the mountains in Hills Have Eyes 2, and your neighborhood and home in all the slasher movies. Anyway, off topic there, I find that people can be weird and strange everywhere, but I find that the less contact people have with a lot of others like in the cities, they can be very strange at times. That's why if I camp, it's with a decent sized group and we never go trudging off alone in the middle of nowhere.

Might as well stay in the city, eh? I don't go out to be part of the crowd. I go out to GET AWAY from it. Just me and my dog most of the time. I can't imagine never getting away because some people are nut jobs. That's really sad.
