Are there any rules against Adult sites here?

Hello All,

I recently launched a series of over-18 type websites and though classy and not the run of the mill sex site, they are still adult in content. I'm a new entrepreneur who has been an QA test engineer for some time and for a long time i've wanted to venture off on my own thing. My wife (yes.. she knows) and I decided that there was a niche market in the adult industry that could be exploited and went after it. However, I dont want to start posting for help if everyone here is turned off by adult sites, and will eventually boot me off. I promise it's a classy site.. and I really am looking for help. My expertise is solely based in site design and even at that is minimal compared to some webmasters out there. I'm looking for help in the marketting, advertising, selling advertising space, finding investors, etc.. arena as those are areas where I am green.

I just want to be sure i'm not going to make anyone mad given the nature of my content.

Thanks everyone

Personally I find this 'niche' offensive on many different levels. I will leave it at that.

However I do not make the rules in this forum and although people may report your posts or links it will be up to the Admin if they do anything about it.

    Patrician,
Firstly.. thank you for responding and for your opinion.

You may find it offensive.. and that's your prerogative. But I'm open minded and always have been about that kind of stuff. When I think of the adult industry, I only think about the insane amount of share it holds on the internet right now. There's no doubt it's huge and there's HUGE $ circulating around it's trenches. The searches on google for adult related content is staggering to say the least, and there's no arguing that.

I completely understand your view, and your disgust for it. No arguments or anything there at all. To each his/her own.

But i'm here not to promote my site, but mostly to gain insight from members here on how to market it, how to make $ from it, increase it's visits, gain investor interest, and the like.

But I'm asking this question in a premediated effort to NOT rustle any feathers. You have to at least appreciate that. If an admin writes back to this post, or PM's me directly to tell me that adult sites cant even be discussed here, then i'll take my questions elsewhere. Though, shunning a giant market like the adult industry just because it's "offensive" to some, seems a bit narrow minded to me.

Basically.... I'm an entrepreneur that has selected a certain Niche market to play my cards in. It's one that hasn't been exploited too much yet, and I feel i've secured some domain names that will prove valuable. I just want some guidance from some experienced people.. no more.. no less.

Thanks for your opinion and for responding Patrician... I'll await more responses and hopefully one or two from some moderators. Until then, I'm going to read posts on here until my eyes bleed and try to learn as much as I possibly can so I dont ask previously answered and/or dumb questions.

Yes hardly anybody is selling porn these days so great find. If you ask me I doubt anyone would ever want to pay to watch other people have sex online.

Now if I can only fix my flux capacitor I'll be able to get back to 2011.

I don't believe you would have any issues discussing various issues like advertising and the other stuff you mentioned. You may want to check with the Help Desk before putting any of your adult sites in your signature, though, because I believe that is not allowed.

now if you PM me the site name I will sacrifice my innocence and take one for the troops...
am I going to need an NBC suit (Nuclear biological chemical) or can I just take a raincoat?

Honestly, some people hold specific reservations on the topic of sex...I myself do not find such offense in adult material. IMO it has played a huge role in being open, honest, loyal and in a 20 year relationship since age 19 with the woman I love. (I don't believe we should surpress our fantasies or our dreams as that tends to lead to drastic, even desperate measures.)

Medley Network *Adult Friend Finder and it's sibling sites makes well over $100 Million a year, so there is definitely a market out there for it.

With that said, there too is HUGE competition, and with so much FREE video out there, gotta wonder if you can be unique enough to topple those 2 hurdles.

If so, carry on man...and congrats. Personally, I made $1.10 with Medley...and stopped promoting the adult niches. Definitely, do your research.

(Hope I'm not breaking any rules) but Wicked Fire forum is full of marketers peddling porn or adult nature materials.

IMO... they do not come close to the level of intelligence this forum holds, but if you can't get a response here, try that.

      Good-Luck

edit: and Oh, Happy Birthday! (I think internet marketing is the culprit for my insomnia too...

Sad to say but porn is not looked upon the same way with the younger generation as it was in our day.
When I was managing a repair shop,I needed to bring my pc to work to fix a small problem I was having. One of the younger tech said something to the effect that they wanted to see what kind of porn I had on my pc.
I told him I didn't have porn on my machine, and didn't look at porn, did'nt need to.
He couldn't believe it,he said everybody watches porn nowadays.
I stepped aside and said "Be my guest".
He looked all through my machine and couldn't find any.
For him, at 19 or 20 years old,he thought porn was the norm.
    It isn't.

There are other people in the forum who are in the adult industries. The only restriction will be links - allowing them can bring some bad ju-ju whether you are adverse to the industry or love it. As far as getting help here with the technicalities of site ownership, it will be as valuable to you as anyone else.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

@mattlaclear... hah.. funny.. yea... porn is a tiny industry that hardly anyone knows about.. so i'm pretty excited about breaking it open :-)

To everyone else. Thank you very much for your honest opinions... Good to know that links in my sig to adult sites is not allowed, and I can completely see how that would make sense and be bad "ju ju"... hah..

The first site in my ring, and actually one other, are pretty harmless and fully clothed in nature. If you put a dot com at the end of my username you'll go to the first site in the ring and the one that started it all. Then there are links to the others if you feel like visiting. There's even one for you lady folk ... my wife runs that one.

Again, i greatly appreciate all of you taking the time out of your busy schedules to write me back. It means a lot and I can already tell i'll get a LOT of good info out of this board and the people within.

    It isn't.
    Your showing your age.

Porn, for those who have grown up with the internet, isn't a big deal. It's not the taboo subject it used to be.

Watch the news, kids are busy making their own porn with their cell phones these days.

To the OP, there are a couple of marketers here who deal in adult but not a lot of discussions on the topic. Your probably better off going to an adult marketing forum.

BTW, I checked out your site and I didn't see any form of monetization.

Also, where are your getting your pic content from? I needed some lingerie pics for a male sexy time site of mine but I didn't have much luck finding what I needed.

If anything I would be sure to be clear when you link to your site that it is not safe for work and 18+. Either that or you could ask people to PM you for a link rather than directly posting it.

Thanks for the notes... Any recommendations for an adult marketting website to join up with? I haven't approached the monetization piece of the site yet. I fully intend to do that... I just want to increase my traffic first before going ahead with that effort. Finding pics is a LOT of work. I have to make sure it doesn't contain any copyright watermarks first of all because I dont want to rustle any feathers there, Even though EVERY other site on the net that posts pics doesn't seem to care... But yea, it's a LOT of work finding the pictures... It's an every night effort.

@Amanda... that's why i'm not posting any links yet. Dont want to post them and get kicked off this board because the resources here are so great.

Go to GFY forums. I won't post the URL here, but Google it. Notice to the faint of heart: Don't google it.

Thanks Ian... I'll check it out tonight when i'm home from my 9-5..

I guess what i'm really looking to learn moving forward is how best to increase traffic to the site, monetize, and maybe even gain some financial backing for the site. I have a honest feeling i'm going to have to employ the skills of an experienced marketer/advertiser/monetizer. The learning curve for these things, as I learn more and more, seems to be substantial and I'm thinking I had better leave such work to professionals who have been doing it for years. That presents a problem though, $$ that I don't have to invest. I'm not an internet mogul and do not have disposable income to invest in a side operation. I have time, website creation skill, intellectual prowess with anything related to computers, but beyond that, my skills are limited.

What is the normal methodology when a new operation needs help from people that have expertise in a field of study, but doesn't have much financial backing to support "hiring" someone to do the work? Learn it and do it myself?

Off the top of my head, GFY, Netpond, Medium Pimpin and Green Guy and Jim.

Once you hit those, just post what your looking for and the affiliate program reps will be all over you. Adult marketing in many ways is still years ahead of non adult marketing especially when it comes to helping affiliates succeed. The best part, nobody is trying to sell you anything.

BTW, just noticed that GFY is expanding their forum into mainstream marketing as well. Neato. I'll have to visit that den of iniquity more often.

Well, something that is really cool about adult marketing is the affiliate referral system.

It goes like this, if you sign up for an affiliate program using my affiliate referral code, I make money when you make money.

I don't need to sell you some over-hyped ebook when I can act as a mentor, get you to sign up for the same affiliate programs that I promote and then help you succeed.

So it's not exactly getting nothing out of it but it is in my best interest to make sure you're making money so I can collect my easy commission

Hook up with somebody who knows what they are doing and is willing to help you out and you can hit the ground running. It helped me get started way back in the day when I was mucking around with nudie sites and didn't have a clue.

@Chris... Thanks again. Greatly appreciate the help and tutelage. The affiliate program sounds like a good deal. The one thing I do, however, want to stray away from if at all possible is the ridiculous, annoying, painful to look at banner ads all over my site. Currently it is not monetized, and I have no banner ads or ads of any kind. I dont even have a single link any outside source. I'm not naive enough to think that I can make money on the site without monetizing it through affiliate programs, banner ads and other forms, but I really like the design of the site without all that crap. It makes it easy on the eyes. There's nothing worse than going to a site (in any arena) that is laden with banner ads and popups, and links that you think will take you to another page on that local site but send you off to some other page somewhere that infects your computer with a virus. It's annoying and I hate it. Because of that I want to avoid crap like that at all costs with this site.

Be that as it may, though, I realize that might be the "Way things are done" these days and might, in all reality, be unavoidable if you want to make any sort of money online with a site (aside from charging a membership fee for services rendered). I, however, have a job, make an ok living, and dont NEED the site to live. Therefore, i'd like to think i can be a bit more selective in my search for quality link exchanges and advertisements.

These are all just thoughts rolling around in my head and obviously have no backing with regard to applicable knowledge toward the subject so I might be talking about things that are just impossible.

@Kay King... Thanks for that. I definitely realize the value of this board as I have poked around in here before when pondering other online aspirations and find the content to be, dare i say it, second to none. For that reason I dont want to do anything that would kick me off the board in any way. I follow the rules, and subsequently get rewarded with eventual knowledge of the subject I want to learn. Win win...

And if people want to know what my site is.... they can ask me.. and I will tell them... it's as simple as that.

Up with insomnia on my birthday .... this sucks... but thanks for the reply Brad.... appreciate it. I'm over on GFY and Netpond making accounts now to see what I can find out about the "adult industry" over there. This is all amazingly confusing and overwhelming.... but i'm going to take my time wading through the material to see what the next steps are. I think the first thing is to drive some traffic to my site... Just have to work to figure out how to do that. Affiliate programs and monetization probably has to wait until I have some semblance of traffic to convert

Maybe get some traffic and see what happens.. You never know. Throw a .com at the end of my username if you'd like to see.

I'll be taking a look a LOT of stuff over the next few weeks for sure and trying to learn everything I can.

Just for the record, I forget the actual mandated disclaimer, but any site housing and/or hosting adult nature materials needs to display a... 18 U.S.C. 2257: The Federal Adult Disclosure and Labeling law.

Although your site looks awesome, I think you might need to add a bit to the "Are You 18?" Pop-Up...as usually it will require a legal disclaimer depending on how deep you go with the content.

yea, actually i haven't really researched what I need to include on the 18/over message. I'm going to have to research that. However, as you'll see if you go to it, the content is very tasteful as compared to a lot of other sites... and two of the sites dont even contain nudity... But i'll research that a bit more

I am 99% sure that discussing it is not going to be a problem here.

After all you'd only be discussing marketing techniques which are all the same regardless of the site's topic.
It's not like you'd be posting links to videos of Briella Bounce or anything.... not that there'd be anything .. wrong... with... that.
