I was watching a show on PBS and learned something new tonight...There's a bear called a Spirit Bear and there's only about 400 in the World and they only live in a small area about 300 miles N of Vancouver.

They are actually white black bears with a double recessive gene and not polar bears...Pretty cool.

WOW, now THAT is confusing! A WHITE ***BLACK*** bear! It's a pity they name things like that. Oh well, koala bears aren't bears, etc... I guess black isn't always black. 8-/ If you disregard the coloring, it DOES look, and certainly ACT, more like a black bear though. 8-)

I even had trouble writing "white black bear".

And black bears can also be brown, but brown bears are a different species that includes grizzlies.

These spirit bears are pretty cool...On another thread I posted about taking an "adventure"...Seeing a spirit bear in the wild is now close to the top on my adventure todo list.

Cute little guys. I don't think their color would fool anyone running into them that they are polar bears. Polar bears are huge. Once you see a grizzly you don't mistake them for a brown or black either.

When the ice age returns, these guys are all set.
