Just needed to drop a quickpost to say hi to everyone and to vent/rant a little. Gonna beat up on my self a bit here because I know that the biggest problems I'm having with I.M. are my own fault. I've been trying (more like wanting) to make a living strictly online for well over a decade. Skittering around always looking for the best program, method, product, to guarantee success. Success, not riches tho that would have been ok to. You know what, over a bleeping decade later and I'm still looking. There's lots of folks who have been able to pick something and make it work. Not me though, I just keep skittering around the pan. I cann't stop, cann't seem to just pick something, anything, and get the hell going. Someone, please help, TACKLE me (virtually speaking) or something. I'm tired of and driving myself nuts by this continual looking/researching yet never doing. I know, I know, TAKE ACTION. I've heard/read it so many times it makes me want to throw up, every sales letter, seminar, or webinar etc. Ya know, hard work's not realy all that hard IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. Dam, still skittering. I have taken some action though. I've gotten some good tools, have plenty of time, and a small (tiny realy) amount of $$ left for this so anyone interested in hearing the full story (you must be either a saint or a sadist) should contact/tackle me. If you're having/had the same kinds of trouble, please post it here. I'd love to hear what you did/plan to do about it.

    Welcome to the forum.

Ya know, hard work's not realy all that hard IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.
So, let me ask. What does your current business plan look like?

Are you going to sell services, sell your own products, or sell other peoples products?

What are your goals for 3 years from now, and even 10 years from now?

Would hate to see you go another 10 years without some long term goals for the business in place.

I know what you're talking about. Many times I've looked at people and thought, How can it possibly be so easy to pick one thing - ONE thing! - and run with it?

Lack of focus, maybe an over-eager imagination, tripping over your own ambition, not understanding the basics of business, lack of patience... and above all you have to know and understand yourself to know where and how to position yourself with this online income thing.

Blessed are those who can make up their minds quickly and stick with one thing until it either works, or until they've made sure it doesn't before moving on to the next thing.

Oh well, like Confucius or somebody else said, it doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you keep going.

Macguyver, I can understand your position... I was in the same place two years back... I guess you are suffering from information overload.. may be its confusing you.. there are many ways to make money online:
    • Become a freelance coder/designer
    • Create your own content site where you can sell others' products.
    • Create your own product on any topic you are an expert in and sell it.
    • Become an SEO and Social Media Marketer
    • Create softwares or web apps that are helpful to people. Like dropbox, Aviary, Prezi etc.
If you don't know coding, then having your own affiliate site or becoming a marketer might be a good idea.

But whatever you choose to become, stick to it. Don't worry about learning everything about the chosen field, you can begin with some fundamental knowledge..within few weeks or work you will learn new things automatically...

BUT... you will take atleast 6-10 months to make some decent $$$..it won't happen overnight or in just few weeks. You need to be patient.. So don't throw away an idea just after toying with it for few weeks..

Hi! I really appreciate your sharing your story with us. It's common to feel overwhelmed at the beginning. Just about everyone I know has suffered from information overload at some point. And you know: This is the door-gate to paralysis! Focus is the only cure to that. Laser focus! So, just pick one method and stick with it until it works.
Ten years is a long time to suffer from these symptoms, though. I think that your decision to join the Warrior Forum (recently as I can see) will help you a lot. The only thing I know for sure is that if what you do doesn't work for you, you need to change your strategy. But, have you got one?

P.S. I love Einstein's definition of madness: "To do the same thing over and over again and expect different results"! (paraphrasing slightly)

P.P.S. Taking full responsibility for your results is one thing and it's really empowering. Blaming yourself for your poor results is another and it is utterly dis-empowering.

Thanks everybody. I don't know if it's information overload or what, seems like I'm just now begining to learn what I.M. realy is, not just build a web page, a couple of affiliate links, and presto. Paid to surf, surveys, oh yeah, all that stuff. I'm sure you've heard it before. Finding this place was terrific, but I'm trying more than that. Started attending a good local I.M. MeetUp group as well. They're doing amazon affiliate training this week, last time it was SEO. Hope to get to know a couple of folks there, seem like a smart, nice group of people.

      Welcome Macguyver!

I commend you for having the courage to come here and share your story. It's a big step forward that you acknowledge your "problem" and aren't deluded into blaming everyone and everything for your lack of success.

I'm curious though. Is your lack of focus solely related to IM? Are there any other areas in your life where you "skitter" around as well?

It might be helpful if you uncovered the real reason you aren't focusing on one thing.

Good luck and welcome to the Warrior Forum!

      Merlyn

To success in IM. You need to focus just in one section such as SEO, PPC, Affiliate Marketing, list Building. When you finish from one (let's say affiliate marketing) move to another one (list building for example)

Most of people fail as a result of wanting to implement every strategies they have learned at once, this end up them reach nothing and lose their focus and become frustrated.

    Good Luck everybody

Wow, never thought I'd get this much of a response, thanks again everyone I realy appreciate it. As far as getting focused goes, I've narrowed it down to CPA and Affiliate marketing. Just to show you my current level of ignorance, I thought SEO is something you use to increase traffic to your sites. Suppose I could get really good at SEO and do it for $$ for others, maybe later. Think I'll stick with CPA and Affiliate stuff for now. Gotta figure out a niche tho, hard to do when you're a generalist kind of guy rather than being an expert in something. My nickname is Macguyver for a reason, I didn't pick it but it sure fits. My fix may not be fancy or perfect (or even right), but it'll work, it'll get the job done. With regard to other skittering well, ex-plumber (son of, had my own buisness for over 5 years), ex-heavy equipment operator, former telemarketing call center/sales manager, GED teacher, COMPTIA A+ certified, certified welder, commercial truck driver, one time HVAC installer, more... Skittering ummmm maybe.

Ah I believe this is the story of probably 90% of the people here! I often get jealous of those that do well from the start, but then realize all that information we're seeing, someone worked very, very hard to put there! I just keep up my hope, because I know someone, somewhere IS successful with IM.

A few things that have helped me is:

      1. these forums and all the support you find here

      2. Ive realized you've got to stick with something for a decent amount of time to see results(sometimes)

      3. when trying to market, it's best to try one, maybe 2 outlets at a time, more than that gets overwhelming

      4. do your research before you join up, talk to people, read reviews, etc.

      5. and keyword--> PATIENCE!

I'm sure you've heard all this before, but so had I and I finally decided to follow through instead of bouncing around after not seeing some result

      Good Luck to you!

We've all been there, don't feel bad. And yes, information overload is exactly what it is.

Obviously you have taken the initiative to learn, fail, and still stick with it. You have also made some moves indicating your seriousness in succeeding in IM because you joined not only here, but in a local group as well trying to learn and network. These tell me things about you, and they are all very positive things. You're not just asking for a hand-out. So to help you out, I'm going to do just that.

I'll tell you what. Since you need to focus on only one thing at the moment, and you just had a bit of Amazon affiliate training, I'll give you a blog absolutely free to get you started. All you have to do is upload it to your host, plug in your own affiliate links, and you're live. That should take away some of the initial work stress.

I would offer 2, but then I'm afraid you might get all confused and 'skittery' again, so let's just start with the 1 until you figure out how to get it working properly and making money.

I'll PM you a link so you can go pick one out.

Once we get that set up, any questions you can post to the forums, and I can guarantee you'll find hundreds of people willing to help in any way possible.

Does that make you feel any less skitter-er-ee?

      Here's my .02:

Pick something your passionate about and spend the next three months working your way into that community and building a community of your own. Tweet nothing but useful info. Put together a Facebook fan page with lots of great stuff. Get into LinkedIn and hob nob with the key players in your topic. Start a blog on the subject. Make videos about the subject. Be known as the smartest, most helpful, most approachable guy/gal in the room.

Don't worry about making money. Just build your tribe.

THEN you can start promoting a product or two. THEN you can joint venture with some of the folks you've become friendly with.

It's a social world we live in, and online success is predicated on relationship building, not the latest IM technique.

So relax. Stop beating yourself up. Have some fun. Make some friends. Build your place in a community. That's when it will all start working for you.
