What music brings back memories of your childhood?

For me, I would have to say the music of John Denver can take me back in the blink of an eye.

      Classic.

Proper songs it would be stuff like Abba and Boney M as they were all very catchy and I was about 6 when they were around.

        Peter and the Wolf (Prokofiev)

My Grandmother had that on a 33 1/3 album and I listened to it for endless hours as a child. Other favorites were Tchaikovsky Concerto #1 and the William Tell Overture.

More music that takes me back is bluegrass instrumentals because we used to go to Kentucky for bluegrass festivals and concerts.

        Geez - no wonder I'm weird:rolleyes:

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

OMG, David, for some reason that song has me crying like a baby -- the loss of Denver (which didn't affect me all that much at the time), the loss of Cousteau the loss of so much of our environment between the BP Oil Spill and Fukushima catastrophies... and maybe just the loss of everything else in between then and now, including the loss of optimism. It's REALLY easy to feel quite pessimistic about our world these days.

Then I have to shake myself and remind myself that we CAN find our way out of all our problems, that the Chinese word for "crisis" is composed of the symbols for "danger" and "opportunity," and that humans are incredibly creative and resourceful. Resilient too. And that my pessimism helps nothing.

Whew. quite a journey you've sent me on this Sunday morning.

BTW, if you like soaring music like this, you might enjoy an album by Vangelis called "Antartica."

As for your question -- ANY music from the 50s, 60s and 70s sends me right back to those magical, resplendent days.

How can music from 3 separate decades take you back to childhood?

You know something about slowing the ageing process that we don't?

        LOL

Are you REALLY asking my age?? (Let's just leave it at this: I'm old, but plan to live to 120.)

Well, we're talking about the late 50s, all the 60s, and while I was already an "adult" by the time the 70s rolled around, the 60s-early 70s were all of a piece to me music-wise -- and good time-wise.

Thanks for sharing this great piece of wisdom. I've been thinking about this for a few hours, and I still have to meditate on it for a while more.

        Aw, thanks, Dave.

That to me is the beauty of what little I know of Chinese wisdom. Like a Zen koan, it can leave you pondering for ages (literally). Another to me is the yin/yang symbol. for example: one forever turning into the other, each containing a bit of the other, both required for the whole, and so on and so forth.

Either Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time" or "Can't Hurry Love" by either Phil Collins or The Supremes. These are some of my favorite songs of all time and I remember them from my childhood and they always put a smile on my face.
