Is this the best piece of guitar Improvisation ever?

Depends on who you are... try listening to this all the way through without having your mind blown a few times... this is 90% improvisation. They dont even get warmed up till halfway through.

Brilliant stuff! However, nobody ever nailed it quite like Jimi.
But that's me, It's a bit like trying to convert an Israeli Jew into ah Sunni Muslim.

This is also one that you may have to listen to and watch for a minute to appreciate but this guy is to me the most amazing I have seen with the things he does for country or Jazz... Sure I like Steve Vai and Stevie Ray... But this stuff here is really really difficult, I have been playing a Telecaster for years now, somewhere in my thirties I really started appreciating the difficulty of this style, but this dude make its look like butter. Damn these guitar threads hook me everytime!

I like the lick at about 1:20 -1:28

Edit! Stochelo Rosenberg playing Django Reinhard.

I posted this video before on your amber guitar pick thread but I am going to share it again anyway.
There is just something about this that gives me the heebie jeebies.
Although this a a Django Rheinhard copy, I think these guys tapped into the same cesspool of depthness as Robert Johnson and Hendrix... and others.. Blows my mind every time.

Wow. I agree at 1:20 to 1:28 he kind of goes into a sort of blues country Jazz hybrid fusion. Fantastic. So fluid as well.

Bill I've always thought Classical Gas was one of the best things ever written for guitar.
This guy is obviously a great guitar player, but that tempo seemed a little fast.

just sayin...:p

Funny you should say that, the first time I saw Fast times at Ridgemont High,
I was on an aircraft carrier. These guy's from Bent Elbow, Arkansas or wherever, where wondering why I was laughing so hard at Spicolli.
I told them I actually had run into guy's that acted like that in LA.
Sean Penn had that down. Later on when I found out he was from Malibu, I knew why.

To this day I have yet to make it thru La Vida Loca, even though it was about the McAurther/Echo park area where I grew up, because of the way the Cholas talk. Couldn't stand it then, still can't.

Funny how one side of LA can be so different from the other.

Jimi by far...While the others are great, Jimi not only improvised he also innovated. No one sounded like him before.

Guitar is also a matter of styles...The best slide guitar improviser. Here's two of my favorite Johnny Winter songs. Make it squeal Johnny!

This guy, alot of people think uses a weird effect, but its just delay , and overdrive, and a pure Fender 57 strat. Not alot of effects, just a long delay. He gets that harmonic sound (You hear when distortion kicks in) from a pick technique, a bit different than a scratch harmonic... He uses thick picks to really get heavy tone... Amazing , as Dan Folgelberg would call it a "Thundering Velvet hand".

Smooth. At 1:09 to 1:12 he plays the riff form Jimi's Castle made of sand.
Never heard of this kid before. Obviously an 80's video. Is he still around?

Jeff Beck certainly had a unique style. Not quite Satriani, not quite BB King, not quite Jimmy Page... well you get my drift, just Jeff Beck, I guess. Reminds a bit of Zappa (in a sense).
Has a wonderful technical yet scruffy sound to it. Love it.

The Blue Wind video was recorded in 1976. Blue Wind may have been my favorite song for about 20 years...It's still close.

OK...Maybe not the greatest guitar jam of all time, but this is one of the most interesting.

Plus, how can we talk about Jimi without bringing up his own favorite, Buddy Guy. Buddy is a great improvisational guitar player, but this is far from his best jam ever. But it's still great to watch. And has there even been a guitar player that looks like they're having as much fun on stage as Buddy?

I believe it's called a shamisen.."three flavor strings"..

Cool cool video, that guy was jammin', never seen that instrument played that way before.

Here's a tribute to SRV lead by his brother Jimmy Vaughn called SRV Shuffle. I think it was Buddy Guy that did the eulogy for SVR.
