Chinese worker commits suicide at apple plant/sweatshop!

    This is very old news. The string of suicides were investigated thoroughly and there was no particular linkage. Foxconn, the manufacturer is not exactly a sweatshop and nor were the workers poorly paid. But what came out was that the work was very monotoneous and workers could not talk to each other during work. Morover, they lived in self contained domitaries with little interaction to the outside world.

    What Foxconn did after this was to effective doubled the salaries of the workers to improve moral. They also tried to pass the responsibility of running the domitaries to the local government. The salary increase was widely condemned by other manufacturers who felt great pressure in matching it. This is likely to result to exporting inflation around the world.
