What's Your Favorite Food?

The last two holidays I've taken over the job as top chef for our family holiday cooking. (I make sure that my brother and sister have at least one dish or hors d'oeuvre.

I pride myself on keeping to a strict diet all year long, but on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day I let loose and eat whatever I want.

My favorite food to eat during the holiday is Sweet Potato Pie. If I had my way, I would eat Sweet Potato Pie all day and all night. I've finally learned how to make it exactly like my Mother makes it.And I haven't found anyone who can replicate her recipe yet, except... me. Yummmm.

Tell me, what's your favorite food to eat during the holiday season?

I love my mothers pecan pie. The lady loves to cook...almost an addiction. Never fails, she always makes WAY more food than we can eat during the holidays.

I'm with her. I love to cook too, and I love to entertain. My favorite is to do a slow smoked turkey, leg of lamb or brisket in a deep smoker. When it's cold outside then to have a slow smoked tritip, REAL smoked turkey...yum! I love to bake too...pies, cookies, home made bread.

My fav would have to venison chili. My dad has a phenomenal recipe. The holidays are the only time we eat it because we run out of it before the winter season is over. To many mouths to feed! I had four bowls on Christmas day alone. I also love homemade perogies.

My favorite food to eat during christmas holiday and around news year is pork.

I like pork steaks, grills, etc. I guess this is because of my nature. I'm a carnivore, a predator. Beware

That's actually a tough question for me Christie.
I'm pretty much down with anything that tastes good.
I try not to do traditional meals for the holidays even though I did a some what traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. For Christmas it was just me and my youngest so I did a chicken fried pork chop, pan fried, with mashed potatoes and fresh carrots.

For New Years I'm thinking grilled skirt steak with grilled portabella(sp) mushrooms and whatever other veggies I feel like grilling that day.

I sure am, Dave. What food is my favorite? If it doesn't move quick enough to get out of my way, it's history.

My favorites are stuffed grape leaves (lemon juice style, not Greek)
    Lasagna with loads of mushrooms
Chili Rellenos smothered in green chili
    Creme Brule Cheese Cake
    raspberry anything

I can't go on from there - I'm getting hungry. Time to hit the fridge.

Chili Rellenos are a staple in my house. Only I make them stuffed with rice and veggies .... yes with green chili sauce.

      Green Chili Sauce
1 can Anaheim chilis--it can be diced, or whole
      5-8 tomitillos--cooked until mush--keep broth
      1/4 c chopped cilantro
      1/4 onion chopped
      4 garlic cloves, crushed
      1 tab oregano
      1 tab cumin
      1 tsp coriander seed, crushed
      1 tab red chili pepper
      salt and pepper to taste

Cook in the tomitillo sauce, put into blender and blend on low until well chopped. Remove.

      Chili Relleno
1 pasillo chili--roast over an open flame, peel off skin, remove seeds, keep top. Try not to puncture or split chili. Keep as whole as possible.
1 c rice cooked spanish seasoned
      1/4 onion chopped
      2 garlic cloves, crushed
      1/4 green onion, chopped
      cilantro, chopped
      2 green onion, chopped
( anything else you're in the mood for )
      olive oil
1 egg ( separate white from yoke )
      1 tab flour
2 tab lemon juice / white wine
      dash chili powder
      salt
      dash tapitio

Toast veggies together in 2 tab olive oil until slightly cooked, not too soft.
Stuff chili with mixture of rice and veggies.

Take egg white and put into a bowl. Whip with a whisk until hard peaks form. Add egg yoke ( slightly beaten ) down side of bowl to not diminish bubbles of whipped egg white. Add flour, lemon juice, dash of salt, pepper, chili powder, tapito. Mix with wisk lifting the egg mixture. With pan still hot, add a little more oil. Make a "bed" with 1/2 egg batter, put stuffed chili on it, then top with rest of egg batter. Turn when bottom is brown.

Serve with hot green chili sauce, sour cream, top with white cheddar cheese.

Dot - not even the same green chili I make.

I don't make the sauce - I make the actual green chili -- Pork roast, tomatoes, chilies, jalapenos to heat until it makes your nose run, and of course garlic and a few secret spices. You can eat it as a main course - I like it with tortillas stuffed with cheese (and I mean stuffed) and fried. Chili reullenos I make with egg roll crust because I don't like that soggy egg batter - deep fry the eggrolls stuffed with a chili and cheese. Crispy and delicious. And of course I top it all with cheese because there is never a way to get too much cheese.

Yummy! I'll have to try the egg roll wrapping next time. I don't eat pork, so I do the vegan version of the green sauce. Mine don't come out soggy, they are crispy on the outside, but you have to eat them right away.

Ah - that is one great thing about foods that you can eat either way, vegitarian or ominvore.
The egg batter when made correctly does get a tad crisp, but I find that most restaurants don't cut it - if you deep fry that batter it's gets crisp but not the same texture - I like the eggroll wrappers because they are just quicker and easier and crispy. LOL. I'm into homemade all the way - but I am also into lazy.
