'The Pipe' Dream or Disaster?
In the mid 1990's a huge oil reserve was found off the northwest coast of Ireland in Mayo County.
The Pipe is a film about the local communities struggle against Shell who forced the local farmers off their land by compulsory land purchases which the Irish government has backed.
Never before in Irish history has a compulsory land purchase been enforced by a global corporation.
The ensuing furore split the community apart as some locals decided to accept the offer whilst others understandably were not so willing.
A very sorry tale but also one of great courage and commitment to the non acceptance of very large corporation bullying tactics to control the lives of other people.
