NBA Draft: Biggest Draft Busts Ever

First, Joe Barry Caroll shouldn't be on the list. He averaged 17 points a game and made an all-star game or two. Granted, the trade for him in exchange for Robert Parish and Kevin Mchale was an all-time bad trade, but that doesn't mean JB was a bust.

And TL...How'd your team do in the draft? I can't believe my Nuggets actually got the guy I wanted (using reasonable expectations for drafting #22)...Kenneth Fariad. The kid's being compared to Dennis Rodman, but I see a little Paul Silas in him too.

That's impressive, just being compared to Rodman who was one of the best rebounders and defenders in history.

We got a bunch of dudes in the 2nd round.

I don't know a lot about them but will see if any will make our roster.

      Lakers In Round: 2

      #41 : Darius Morris
      #46 : Andrew Goudelock
      #56 : Chukwudiebere Maduabum
      #58 : Ater Majok

I think we're trying to go with the blockbuster trade route.

I even heard we may be trying to do something with Golden State and Tim's boy, Montel Ellis.

      All The Best!!

You guys stay away from Monta! I've heard that also but I don't see him and Kobe fitting together well.

We drafted Klay Thompson, a 6'7" guard who can shoot pretty well, but not known for great defense. Not really what we need IMO but perhaps the best player available. I think you remember his dad TL.

And JB Caroll was a better #1 over-all the Mychal Thomspon. JB averaged slightly more rebounds and 4 more points per game.

I wouldn't mind have JB with the Warriors now. Even at his current age. He would be an improvement over Biedrins who has turned into a major headcase and a complete disaster.

              Hey Tim...

I'm trying to think of a center in the NBA right now that I'd take over JB, other than Dwight Howard.

There's not a lot of good centers now days. He would certainly be an all star. I always liked him as a player. Calling him one of the all time draft busts is just stupid. It wasn't his fault the Warriors traded Parish and McHale to get him. Yeah, that was a dumb trade, but Carroll was not a bust. JB didn't give many interviews and people didn't like his personality, but so what? He performed.

Did you ever read the story about his incident in Georgia at a restaurant Kurt?

                  Hey Tim,

No...But I'd be interested. Last I heard he was doing well as an investor in the Atlanta area.

I hate calling anyone a bust. It isn't their fault that they were drafted when they were. It should be the GM that drafted them labeled as busts. And even by the definition most use for being a "bust", I don't see how a guy that averaged almost 18 points and 8 rebounds a game can be called a bust.

I knew JB growing up in Denver (which is why I care about this subject), and know he's a good guy. JB ALWAYS treated me with respect.

"On August 11, 2006, Carroll, who is black, along with his friend attorney Joseph Shaw, also black, sat at the bar at The Tavern at Phipps in Atlanta, Ga. and ordered drinks and food. The restaurant and the bar were full. After they'd begun their meals, the bartender asked them both to move from their seats for two females, while there were several white males at the bar who were not asked to move. They were the only blacks in the entire restaurant. The two men politely declined and continued with their meals and conversation. They were then approached by a woman, who said she was managing parter of the restaurant, and a man, who was the manager, who said it was "custom" in the bar for men to give up their seats to women, and Carroll and Shaw were then asked to leave. They said they weren't ready to leave yet and weren't done eating their meals. Management then unilaterally closed out their bill before they had finished their meal and refused them further service. The 2 managers became agitated, creating a scene that Carrol and Shaw found embarrassing. The manager then called police. A uniformed Atlanta police officer showed up and seemed to back up the "custom" of the restaurant. At no time did anyone accuse Carroll or Shaw of being disorderly or disruptive, but they now feared they would be arrested so they left despite not being finished with their meals. They had been asked a total of 5 times to give up their seats while no requests were made of the white men at the bar. They say they were "traumatized and humiliated"

Carroll filed a complaint to Atlanta's Human Relations Commission. The commission issued a finding of "improper treatment of Plaintiff Carroll and Mr. Shaw based on race" and that "race was a factor in the escalation of the situation." They concluded that "the Commission can't help but to wince at the notion of expressly sanctioning a practice that would have the effect of requiring an African American to relinquish his or her seat to a Caucasian patron. The Commission could well expect an African American individual finding himself in such a situation to believe he or she is being singled out for hurtful, disparate treatment,"

Carroll said, "I was shocked that it ever happened, But since I've gotten over the shock, I've felt I have a responsibility to promote some conversation, some discussion about this."

Carrol has also filed suit in Federal Court and is asking for a jury trial, asking for "Compensatory (and punitive) damages in an amount to be determined by the conscience of the jury and evidence presented"

Any money from the suit will be given to charities he already promotes."

I'm still mad at JB being called a bust...BTW, I'd take JB over Andrew Bynum.

I still think it has to be Greg Oden among the highest. I mean #1 overall and the dude ends up being not just overpaid but can't stay healthy... overall a major bust. The reason it is so bad is Portland passed up Kevin Durant, arguably one of the best basketball players right now.
