Didn't You Get The Memo? The Main Forum Is Now The New OT Forum

Sorry in advance, I just needed to vent a little to you, my fellow basement dwellers...

I have almost given up on my fight of trying to help organize this forum, and I'm sick and tired of telling people, 'this belongs in the OT forum' or 'this belongs in the JV forum' or 'this belongs in the WSO section' (I've been sending PM's recently, so I don't hurt people's feelings publicly).

The main responses I get whenever I say this to people is: 'Yea I know, but I thought it would get more views in the Main Forum'.

Charlie Brown said it so perfectly whenever the football was taken out from under his feet:

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!

Don't people know about proper organization? Don't they know that if they are posting something about a specific topic like Ad Networks or CPA, they will get much more targeted people looking at & discussing their posts in the correct section of this forum?

I think people just see: 500+ people viewing the main forum, and only 30-40 viewers in the sub-forums, so in their minds, it must be better to post in the main forum compared to the sub-forum that is specifically targeted to their topic.

Obviously, they don't know the difference between targeted traffic compared to junk traffic.

Case in point, I have a 'success' post that I submitted to the Mind Warriors section quite a while ago, and I think it's one of my most viewed posts... compared to the main forum... where topics are gone from the first page in a day (unless of course you post something controversial that pisses a bunch of people off, or if you post something extraordinary.)

Once again, AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG!@!!!@@!@!

Hey Indy, Welcome to the WF, and I hope I didn't scare you too much about posting... feel free to let your ideas/questions fly. I don't think there is anything in the rules about posting stuff in the right or wrong section, but I can guarantee you that if you post something in the main forum that belongs in a specific section, you will get a bunch of people telling you so...

The bad thing I have noticed about this is that many good posts get reported and deleted simply because they are in the wrong section.

Shite, I just thought about it for a few minutes... am I a hypocrite? Am I posting an 'on topic' post in the 'off topic' section of this forum?

Dang it... ya just can't win can you???

So... how 'bout those aliens huh...???

Hey jared I feel ya. You brought up the point that i was going to bring up the difference between traffic and targeted traffic.

I see it alot up there that's why I tend to stay do here!

Thanks CJ, Targeted traffic is the key, but more importantly, for this forum: Targeted LEARNING & Discussion.

If you have been browsing all of the other sub-categories of the forum, you would understand that you can learn much more from these sub-forums that are targeted to specific things that you want to learn more about.

There is a gold-mine of information here, and if more people looked at, and posted in the targeted sections, well, it would help everyone tremendously.

    Hi, Jared,

As a distant observer of the Internet marketing crowd I am well aware that they are taught by many "gurus" that posting to forums is a great way to get known.

Don't get too upset because it seems that most wannabe internet marketers only read the basic instruction "Post to forums" and fail to notice the little qualifier "pertinent or relevant posts".

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

That's a good point. One thing I've noticed (and Jared I don't include you in this as I haven't seen you do it) is that many of those complaining the most about what is in the main section also tell people on their blogs and in emails to "do forum marketing".

I've noticed there are cycles here where you see many complaints about the WF being posted in a short period of time. Seems to me it's just because it's a slow period and people are looking for something to pick on or post about. One person complains in a thread - and the herd rushes in.

Trying to organize a forum that belongs to someone else, or trying to control how others use it - is an exercise in futility and a waste of time. Read posts by those you trust - ignore the others.

If I see a post that is clearly not suited to the main section, I click the "!", type in "wrong section" and let it go. What happens after that isn't up to me.

Just give me time Kay, I'm sure I will make a hypocrite out of myself sooner or later  I've been trying very hard at it, but it just has not been working out for me (yet).

Anyways, when I posted I was thinking about the good ole days, where it just wasn't so crowded here. Kinda like reminiscing about the glory days... back in high school... man If I could only go back in time, I betcha we coulda taken the state championship...

The more people that gather here, the less organized it's going to get. No stopping the inevitable.

However, I'm going to STOP reporting good posts that are simply in the wrong place. I hate to see good info get deleted for this simple mistake.

I will now just send a quick PM to anyone that I see posting in the wrong place. Usually it's just a new member that quickly scanned but didn't see their category at first glance.

          Jared -

I do know what you mean as I originally joined the WF in 2002 - but resigned up in 2004 because I had lost login info.

Speaking of rants - here's the one that will set me off.

Just read in a main section thread a post by a 17 yr old - first post here - wanting to buy an expensive coaching program but had no money....guess what advice he was given?

          "Run a WSO" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems to have become the pat answer to anyone who "needs money" - I remember when almost all the WSO's offered were from people actually making money.

Well, I just added to the mess and honestly, I don't even care and here's why.

People will report your posts, relevant or not, and have them deleted (there
are many cliques here) not because of what was posted but because of
            who posted.

            It's getting old and tiresome.

Posts that people had to have spent a good half an hour or more putting
together are deleted because certain members just don't like them.

Yes, that's the real truth and I'm calling it like I see it.

            Think cliques don't exist?

Then you're not living in the real world.

Steven, you just gave me the missing puzzle piece that helped me connect my thoughts...

I was just thinking about the new year, which got me thinking of the past year, and the year before that, and far beyond, damn, just got one of those 'good feeling' chills... (smiling)

I was thinking about high-school and college, and how this forum is kinda similar to that.

It has been amazing watching this community 'grow up' over the years and I view it as 'one being', that is now at that high-school/college stage...

Looking forward, I can't wait to see the WF graduate college, and start it's life in the 'Real World'.

Don't they grow up so very fast?

LOL - Jared. Kay has a very valid stance there.

I have this take on it all --
You have all these marketers in here and each represents competition. How strong is your competition? If your potential competition can't master simple categories of pertinent posting guidelines, how the hell do you expect them to be competitive in the market? LOL. You have a plain view of who is going to be in the 95% failure group every time you see a post that disregards relevance. If there are so many of them that you felt driven crazy enough by them to make it in here to vent, that is a GOOD thing. Hahahahahaha.

BTW - We are not BASEMENT DWELLERS. This is the BAR, dude. You want to hang out in the basement with the mops and buckets and walk over Kevin and AlexR when they crawl down there and crash after a few too many, that's fine, but otherwise, pull up a stool at the bar and be sociable. Geesh.

Yuppers... well, let me modify that, it's a GREAT thing. I know what's up, I'm not looking at these folks as competitors Just trying to do my part to help direct them to the right sections...

The people that might look like they would be a competitor to me, well, I try to partner up with them and work together in some way.

Yes WTF on the 'bottomfeeder' reference, Jared.

This is over-the-back-fence (over-the-top) here, no bottom to it.
    Also no top -

I agree with you however, and say 'if you lie down with dogs you get fleas' - I was just talking about how the main forum is in a hostile takeover by trolls and I don't know where any of the "old" Warriors have gone.

Believe me people 'smart mouth' me for infractions and then I give them another infraction for that, until they paint themselves into a corner and are banned.

    EDIT:
Patrician: I didn't mean to say they get banned just for that, but it is a combination of factors that will lead to banned. I like to push the envelope when one gets in my face.

So getting them to organize? Best of luck with that.

I think it is a totally bad idea to have a 'self-moderated' forum.

You know what you said about the threads will get deleted if they are in the wrong section. Yes that is what will happen - USUALLY only as a result of people REPORTING the threads for being in the wrong section.

I know I can move threads from forum to forum - Don't know about any of the 'self-mod' mods out there. I do it for my own but I don't know if I can do it for anybody else. I just found out I can remove affiliate sigs so I guess that will be one argument I won't need to get into.

Anyway THANKS FOR CARING ABOUT YOUR FORUM JARED.

I think IM must be in a very slow period right now - some people are recycling their posts and seem to be looking hard for things to start threads about.

Ever wonder if this is on their business plan of "to do daily"....

      1. check email
      2. write 5 articles
      3. start 2 new threads in 10 forums

      That would be exhausting!

        Case in point:

You are 'SELF' moderating the main forum.

The guy you are advising chooses to not acknowledge your authority.

        (You have no authority)

p.s. the irony for me is for 3 years i hid in the OT and the pips forum. i always called the main forum 'swimming with the sharks'. (and this was before trolls!) EDIT: THERE WAS ALWAYS TROLLS SAME THING DIFFERENT DAY.

so i am finally getting the nerve my 4th year to go in the main forum. i am still scared to death to say a word, and only get the nerve to post if there is a fight and i can't resist taking sides.

as usual well not the usual 'ballgame on a rainy day' routine, but like getting there after the show close's. worse i have declared publicly (pips forum) that i realize i am a complete failure as a marketer and i am blessed and humbled to still be in the lovely internet marketing industry as a virtual administrator, coach and moderator. (i do know what to do, i just won't do it) I was born without the marketing and sales gene.

I do have 32 EDIT: ACTUAL NUMBER 26 where did i get 32?. domains in my empire -> about 12 registered on an internet marketing real estate shopping spree (Sunday and Monday). zowie!

WOW EDIT: in time for tax year.

WHAT A HEADY EXPERIENCE. BETTER THAN 'SHOE SHOPPING GOOD'

Well sorry for going off topic but Jared you were going nostalgic and I can dig it.

      Depends.

      But I DO know this...

One hot summer day out in the country in 1975 I ran out of gas in my Dads little Datsun truck.

I walked about a mile to the nearest house to use a phone...didn't have one.

BUT....the old guy said he had a little "fuel" he could spare.

He went back with me and proceeded to pour out what looked like water from a big 1 gallon glass container into the fuel tank.

Poured another little dab into the carb.

A couple cranks and I was on my way.
