A huge proportion of violence that I've personally witnessed has taken place at bars or clubs. I figure that not going to such places would dramatically reduce a person's likelihood of meeting up with violence. An ambulance driver I recently chatted with said something similar.

It's great we may have such places to exercise our freedoms and all, so I am not saying they're bad, but just that they are violence magnets. It's not surprising, of course -- "bar" and "club" are also terms for weapons.

What time is it supposed to happen? So far, I don't see flying cosmic debris smashing the neighborhood to smithereens.

That's exactly why I don't go to bars anymore...alcohol and assholes are a bad combo.

In my post 40 life I found that's where most of my problems where coming from, I can't even remember the amount of 'problems' I've had in bars and I'm a happy drinker, got nothing to prove.

But that certainly doesn't mean other people don't.

A man walks into a bar and orders one shot. Then he looks into his shirt pocket and orders another shot. After he finishes, he looks into his shirt pocket again and orders another shot. The bartender is curious and askes him "every time you order a shot, you look in your shirt pocket. Why?" The man replies, "I have a picture of my wife in my pocket and when she starts to look good, I go home."

Single young guys go to the bar for one of two reasons. To hook up or to get into a fight. When it becomes apparent they are going to strike out with the ladies they move to plan b. Put two of those guys in the same room and step back and wait for the brawl to start.

Then you have the ones that get what I call a 'short people drunk' on.
Those are the ones that get drunk and then try to fight anyone bigger then them.

It really depends on where you go. I've been going to bars for years now and most all have no violence inside or out. In fact, in the last 3 years, I've gone to bars anywhere from twice a week to four times per week and have only seen violence a couple of times. I'm not sure about clubs though. I could believe that seeing as most of the people in clubs are 18 to 25. Most of the bars in DFW will have no violence on any given night and the chance you'll see some fight or something are pretty small. Just my opinion on my observations.

  • I feel ya, I feel like I over did it and drank myself stupid. I mean do people at bars and clubs even find quality time with one another? I found myself feeling a little empty from it all. I'm happy doing even nothing if its with good people
