Is there a way to subscribe to a thread and receive notifications within the forum?

This may be kind of a silly question, but I was wondering if there is a way to receive notifications on a thread within the forum (sort of like on Facebook).

I looked at my settings and didn't really find anything that was clear. And I did not see this addressed in the FAQ.

Also, how does one add friends and/or contacts? What is the difference?

Any help you can offer will be appreciated. I'm still getting the hang of this!

If you look above there is something called Thread Tools. You'll find Subscribe option in there...

The quick answer I believe is no.
Thread tools let you subscribe or get email notification. You have to go into the user Control Panel to check on your subscribed threads.
If you want email notifications I believe you have a choice of anytime anything is posted, once a day or once a week.
But email is not inside the forum like you asked.
