To Whom Much is Given Much is Required? Agree or Disagree?

Do you agree or disagree with the saying "to whom much is given much is required."

One school of thought says yes if you have the talent, knowledge or money you're obligated to help others and be a good role model.

The other school of thought says I earned it, worked my but off or studied and sacrificed my brains out, but Im not obligated to help others - It's my choice.

What say you?

Personally I sit between the two extremes and take things on a case by case basis.

Do whatever you want - it's up to you. At the end of the day if you can face your deathbed with no regrets then you've probably lived a decent life.

We all get a helping hand in life, and we all get the s*** kicked out of us too. It's what we do with these moments and what learn about life, people and ourselves that will determine how we live our lives.

yes it is true,U realize that those who give more have so much, its like there is a hand that extends to them for giving.like Bill Gates,Angelina Jolie,Tom Cruise give so much and they have so much.actually to receive u have got to give or so we are told and usually an act of kindness often brings kindness:that is an African saying.

This statement is often misused and *******ized to facilitate a lot of evil in the world. As for your example? There USED to be a culture in my industry that seemed to work well with that. It really often doesn't anymore. And I get PAID for what I know. It is bad enough that this statement and perception are used to take from me, but to use it to try to obligate me to give is just ludicrous.

That said, if one has a lot of excess, they should feel like giving back, and can. It should not be used by some jerk to insist they pay.

Take bill gates, for example. A lot of his "net worth" is money he CAN'T access, and dares not! Some is used to pay many THOUSANDS of people! Some is saved for retirement. Some WOULD have been saved for his kids. And some is used by/for the gates foundation. Who are WE to say he should give more, etc... The government, for example, may presume to know. The only thing they KNOW is that taxes will go up, the value of money will go down, etc... So they KNOW that EVEN bill gates HIMSELF can't really know. So they know that THEY certainly know NOTHING about any excess.

And they certainly don't know any more about ME!

I once figured that if I were immortal, invulnerable, etc... like superman, that I would help everyone out like he did in the comics. TODAY, if I were somehow changed to be like that, nobody would EVER know such a person existed. I would have no desire to be like the comic and would avoid any impulse to do so. HECK, it would probably be for the best for all those that otherwise might be saved, etc...
