A members post removed, do you agree ?

Hi Warriors

First of all I don't want this to sound like a big grumble, I would just like your opinion on something that happened a few days ago as I was very surprised and if I am honest it did niggle me at the time.

After a few minutes of feeling 'niggled' I thought that the best way of finding out if I was right is to ask the members who care to listen. Anyway, here is what happened:
I replied to a members concern in a WSO thread, I tried to give sound advice and without being negative to the WSO, it was advice in general and I feel I have enough business experience to help where I can.

A WF member thanked me and posted a comment that read 'You have raised some very, very important issues here, thank you....'
Now to me this was nothing detrimental to the WSO, it was just a thank you and I appreciated that the person made the effort to post their thanks.
Literally within hours the post was removed !?

Now why on earth would a post saying thank you be removed ??
Surely this did no harm to anyone.
So my question is, do you think that a post of this nature should be removed ?
I asked support why and was told:
'the post was inappropriate. There is no need to start a debate on the pros and cons of IM products in another members sales thread'
I replied and explained that I did not start a 'debate' and that the support person obviously didn't read the post otherwise they would know that I merely offered advice. Their reply was:
'You are not a customer so you can not post in a WSO thread'.... which is of course ridiculous because most potential customers ask questions and post comments before they purchase and their posts are not removed lol.
The silly thing is that my posts that were thanked numerous times by members are left on the thread but support removed the post where another member thanked me lol

I am happy to copy my posts here so you can see but I am now paranoid of them being removed.
But based on the facts above do you think this was a a bit of a nonsense exercise ?

Surely the powers that be should be using their time & energy on more important issues and not removing posts that thanked a member.
Heck we have all types of spammers and con merchants trying to infest the forum and now I find that posts thanking someone are removed for no reason whatsoever.

Please remember I did say that I am not having a mega grumble, I'm over it but wanted an unbiased opinion from someone else.... see I told you I am paranoid now about posting anything, surely forums should not be like that,
should we not be able to discuss openly any issues at any time as long as we are polite and honest ?

Is there any reason why a post that simply thanks someone for their advice be removed ??

I would value any members opinion.

Be happy

You obviously didn't read my post. I am not arguing about anything, you have said that not me. I simply asked for an opinion, I have already said that I have moved on so your reply isn't really an opinion on whether or not you agree with the post being removed.
But thank you for taking the time to reply.

If you had moved on you wouldn't of started this thread.
Actions speak louder then words and all.
You got your answer why it was removed and thiat is the right answer and the right thing to do.
Now get over it and really move on.

    Well, here's this member's opinion:

I think this thread is a bit of a nonsense exercise. The only benefit is that it illustrates the wisdom of the (general) policy not to respond to queries about deleted posts.

The complainant is rarely happy to let the matter rest when given an answer and will seek to prolong the debate interminably.

    Cofton25 -

I do understand why you are/were 'niggled' (LOL) but the point is (if Les (lgibbon) didn't make it clear) is that there is nothing that can be gained by worrying, wondering, analyzing or protesting - so move on.

LOL - I call this 'stewing' - you say you moved on but you haven't because you have posted this diatribe. (when I stew I go over it and over in my head until I just get sick of it and force myself to ACCEPT IT!)

The Moderator's decisions are usually final. No use putting a 'bee in their bonnet' by antagonizing them. (you have no idea maybe how stressful being a moderator really is and being challenged just adds to the toxic mix).

With that said - GLITCHES are not just excuses for what to call something when nobody knows what happened. For unexplained reasons, sometimes posts get deleted - It sounds sort of like 'ghosts' or something - but it DOES HAPPEN - could be a nano-second where there's a disconnect and whoops there it goes out into space -

    ... seriously.

WSOs - people are paying what may be big money to them particularly if they haven't recouped their investment - even a bump is $40 and may keep them at the top less than 24 hours.

So they are touchy! Maybe the owner of the thread/WSO didn't appreciate your comments and while he may have not deleted them to be fair, he certainly wouldn't thank you for interjecting something that created doubt.

Have a nice day and don't worry...

      Wait...

You're "niggled" and it's not even YOUR post that was removed?

I think you've been misinformed about how forums work. You are not owed any explanation at all so you're lucky you even got one. Most don't.

Debating the right or wrong of it is pointless - and stop saying that's not what you're trying to do because of course it is, or you wouldn't bring it up and ask for opinions.

And by the way, you can't ask for opinions and then get snippy with those that don't agree with you like you did with Les. Having your cake and eating it too isn't generally how things work.

Seems to me to be a long and drawn out way to say:

"Hey! Why was that post removed?!?!"

    Which is frowned upon here.

As has been said on MANY MANY MANY occasions on this forum, there are a lot of member and very few VOLUNTARY (meaning unpaid) moderators to make sure people don't game the system, scam other warriors, enforce the rules, etc.

We all have had posts removed at some point. The advice to "move on" is the best advice. In the end, it doesn't matter WHY the mod removed it. It was a judgement call.

Okay, thank you all for your input.

It seems like there are rules in a forum that I didn't know about so my fault for not taking the time to read them properly.

And for the record I didn't get 'snippy' with anyone, I just didn't feel the reply was an opinion about the actual question.
By my nature I ask questions when I don't understand something, when I receive an answer that makes sense I accept and learn, when an answer doesn't make sense (and I'm not referring to Les, I am referring to the answer given for removing the post) then I do try to find an answer because then I understand, I might not agree with it but at least right or wrong it will make sense.

I do get the distinct feeling that no one will ever question the decision of a moderator and if that's the way it has to be then so be it. I suppose it's a bit like a football match, the referee's decision is final and if you question it then you get warned, booked or sent off.

Now I know the rules I will shut up and sorry if I wasted your time, now I know the rules then I have indeed made a pointless post.

    Please accept my apologies.

It sounds as if you innocently tried to help out - but then it created a conversation in a thread that someone had PAID to run. Not good. A WSO is not a place to jump in with advice or offer help - it's a thread for a seller, potential buyers and buyers.

Maybe that will explain it. Maybe not.

    Cofton,

There is a thing that isn't often discussed. There is a point at which a sale is about to be made. You NEVER really now WHEN that occurs. It is different for EVERY person, unless your product is very unusual, etc.... It happens in the mind of the prospect, and they usually WON'T tell you then. It is bad form, and can hurt negotiations. Unless you are SURE, in a perfect world, you may want to SHUT UP at that point. Anyway, after that, some things can SEAL the deal, etc.... Sometimes a whisper or even a sound that may mean NOTHING can trigger a chain of events that can STOP the sale!

If you make a statement, even to help someone, it can be such a whisper. A mere thankyou can be the same. The moderator may have felt that it was inappropriate, for the WSO. Had you done the same ANYWHERE else, they may not have been deleted.

Just read your reply again and just wanted to say I think you are spot on with your take on it. It makes sense as this happens in the real world of sales and marketing as well, although these can be very very different arenas of sales & marketing techniques it just goes to show that they do have things in common. The moderator was right and I should have realised this.

Thanks Kay King and seasoned, really constructive replies without making me feel like I'd killed someone ;-) That's all I wanted in the first post, just an opinion without making me feel like I'd done something really bad. We are all different and react differently to things, I understand this but just think we should all answer without trying to make anyone feel crappy even if they did something silly. Thanks again and you both raised some good points.
