Roger Clemens faces 30 years for perjury to a Congressional committee? And a 1.5 million dollar fine?

Have I missed something here?

This seems a little out of whack to me.

I can see jail time, but 30 years?
I'm not naive, I realize he probably won't get that if convicted.

It just seems excessive for lying about taking steroids, if he did.

Does anyone else find that a bit much?

WOW! Perjury is usually NOT that bad. Steroids were a relatively minor offense until around 2005, when it became a high class felony. I think the maximum is like 5 years in prison per offense.

BTW they often create a basket of possible violations, and some may be contradictory. The sentence should be based on the conviction, etc...

Hey Steve, Kim, thanks for posting.
Steve I agree, it is the proverbial 'book', but why him?

Kim, the only thing I can figure is as an example, but why him?

You know who may testify against him? McGuire,Bonds..et al...give me a break.

My original question is still what did I miss? Out of all these jokers why is he being singled out.
I don't know, maybe I'm just lame, but it seems there is more to this than meets the eye.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but I personally know guy's that have done less time for ,lets say much more serious stuff.

      This is strange.

Do we really need to waste time and money on this?

Like I said, maybe I'm missing something.

There is a pitcher nick-named The Rocket
Whose case is now on the docket
His celly's name will be Bubba
Who''ll greet him with a big "hubba hubba!"
And ask Roger "Is that a banana in your pocket"?

Geez Kurt, I liked your other limerick too.

And I know (from what I have read) your a sports fan.

      You don't have an opine?

Since you asked...If found guilty, I'd say a week in jail, 100 hours communtity service and a $100,000 fine, since he can afford it.

However, I think Congress has other things much more important to worry about at the moment...

Not to mention, IMO steroids should be legal. If someone wants to take them, that's their choice. MLB and other sports leagues can ban the use if they choose, but Congress shouldn't be involved other than to protect Roger's right to use them.

I've done a little study on steroids and IMO the health risks are way over-blown FOR MATURE MEN if steroids are used with restraint. There are serious helth risks for women and teen males, but for adult men they work with little risk.

And if an adult man uses them with common sense, the added muscle could be of great use to alll of us guys that could stand to lose a little weight. Not only will they produce results faster, to keep us motivated, muscle also burns fat.

Now, my biggest problem with Roger is his ego, but the last time I checked, having a big ego wasn't against the law.

I can agree on everything, except for the steroids.

The only reason I can't agree on that is because I know very little about them especially as far as health concerns.

I remember wrestling a friend of mine (for his birthday) with another friend, he weighed 270 and I weigh 230 and this 200 pounder was throwing us off like rag dolls. Eerie strength.

A basic law I believe in is, you can't keep borrowing against the future and not expect repercussions. Even physically.

And yea, if people were to be sent to jail for ego's, lets say construction would be booming again...

IMO, even if steroids are harmful to one's health, as is smoking, salt, alcohol, driving cars, sugar and more, it should be up to the individual adult. My only requirement is that the risks are put on the label.

Also, as someone that supports the legalization of drugs, I have to also support steroids as part of this. It's funny, I've had similar discussions with others that support legalizing drugs, but none of them supported legalizing steroids, which I don't understand.

And, steroids are legal in many cases, if prescribed by a Dr. They do work.

Well hell Kurt, I agree with that...

Anything can be 'bad' for you done in excess or with the wrong combination, even supposed clearly defined 'good' things, like say vitamins.

They do use steroids in medical treatments, I thought, I know they do for animals, because I have had dogs that had steroid treatments.

I also agree that the 'war on drugs' should be reevaluated.
Like I said in a post earlier, almost everything, except things like meth, which I see no redeeming qualities for.
I'm not pretending to know whether that is completely true tho, just what I have observed personally. More of a biased opinion.
In other words not pretending to be a medical pro.

I think the "sentencing" blather is ridiculous in this case. It's a bad joke - manslaughter does less time. Just people throwing their weight around.

Of course, and that's why guys like Roger Clemens get threatened with the bigger sentences. To make an example of and grab attention.

"Joe Blow gets 30 years for steroids use" won't grab anyones attention for more that a second or two.

But that's just it Kim. it's not the steroid use, no charge for that (at least what I read), it's the obstruction and perjury.

      30 sounds excessive.

I was just reading that the main witness is his ex trainer, who is pretty 'spotty' shall we say, himself.

Let alone the Roid babies they have lined up with the accusing finger pointing.

Apparently you missed the day when justice became perverted. I can't pinpoint the day myself, it must have happened when we weren't looking.

Not to get political, but if he gets a sentence anywhere close to the maximum then all those lying, corrupt, perverted government hot shots should be held to the same standard. A lot of them are more deserving of jail time than Clemens, IMO.
