Holy crap -- 18 years sounds extreme, but not when you see the whole freakish picture...

WiFi-hacking neighbor from hell gets 18 years in prison

If I was the victim I would sell the house in 17 years.

Sounds like the neighbor, is freakin crazy & needs to be locked up!

18 years in his case does not seem extreme at all.

That guy's lucky he's not my neighbor. He'd be begging for a longer prison term.

18 years? meh. Another shining example of a punishment that did not fit the crime. Had he murdered them, he might have gotten 18 years in prison (and that's a maybe). But 18 years for harassment? Stupid legal system.

Let see....here's some of the crimes he did they did not list.

Posession and dissemination of child pornography
Sending threatening letters to POTUS/Vice POTUS

Methinks 18 years is a little light...but that is just me.

I don't think the sentence is right either. The US has got the highest prison population in the world as well as the highest incareration rate.

The US gov. doesn't take threats lightly, I'm sure that was the largest part of his sentence.

Derek, the other day there was a thread where I disagreed with the length of the sentence, not here.

He tried to frame someone for sending threats to the VP, therefore he technically did it.
Not to mention the child porn and other vile crap.

I didn't see if it was Fed or state charges.
If it is Fed he will prob do all that time, state he could be out in 1/2 to 1/3 of the time.

Threatening the VP could have got him life...he should count himself lucky.

And I won't even go into how lucky for him he wasn't my strange neighbor kissing my kid on the lips.

          Good riddance.

There is NO technically about it! HE did the threats. In such a case, you can really only be convicted if there were threats. So there were, and they came from him.

He could have taken a plea deal but declined:

"Ardolf had no criminal record, but an investigation revealed that he'd also hijacked the WiFi of other neighbors, and terrorized them as well. A father of two, Ardolf had turned down a two-year plea agreement last year to charges related to the Biden e-mail. After that, the authorities piled on more charges, including identity theft and two kiddie-porn accusations carrying lifetime sex-offender registration requirements. He pleaded guilty to them all last year."

Ok, let's break some of the crimes he did commit down.

Distribution of Child Pornography (which he did commit) carries a 15 year prison sentence:

Child Pornography Law, Definition, and Penalties

Threatening the President and or Vice President carries a 5 year sentence:

Threatening the President of the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That is 20 years by itself.

Anyone want to argue that 18 year sentence is extreme now?

Well, that WAS only on ONE charge. ALSO, pleading is considered an admission of guilt and apparently the DO often want you to actually confess, so it basically says you don't even have to go to court, that you just walk into prison to stay for 2 years.

It is a GAMBLE! The officials don't want to bother, and know they can lose, so they offer a low sentence for a plea. The defendants know all that, and hope they can win. Because he did NOT plea, they had to use evidence. HE thought they would miss the evidence. Maybe even 5 years ago they MIGHT have, but they got him dead to rights. They might as well have gotten his fingerprints and DNA!

Such a neighbor around you sounds scary and creepy. Better to make friends than foe, but I don’t get the pedophile part. I mean I wouldn’t like any stranger kissing my kids of course, but isn't this guy a father of two.

It might be jumping to conclusions thinking that the guy is a pedophile for kissing a little boy on the lips. It's possible that in his family everyone kissed everyone else on the lips and he thinks it's perfectly normal behavior. As a parent I'd sure be cautious about protecting my child just in case but in general I wouldn't make that assumption.

Actually, the extreme way in which he responded to the accusation might be an indicator that he isn't a pedophile and was horrified by the charge. It seems like his attitude was that since they accused him of being a sexual deviant, he would return the favor. Of course, the difference is that he did it using illegal methods where they simply voiced their opinion ... right or wrong.

People just need to realize that occasionally someone will say something that really upsets you but there's no need to turn it into an all out nuclear holocaust. That's how people end out paralyzed or dead from a gunshot wound or, in this case in prison.

WHO CARES? The child was NOT his child!

He said at one point that he threatened to destroy them. Pedophiles don't like the charge any more than others.

He wouldn't have heeded your advice anyway. He worked HARD to set this all up. You mentioned about the boy, but he was destroying that boys FAMILY!

This is one case where the old childhood retort of "I'm rubber YOU'RE glue" comes into play, IN SPADES! The "hacker" NOT ONLY acts this way, hacked into the other system, AND did WHO KNOWS WHAT to/with their YOUNG son, but he did ALL that the other person was accused of AND tried to frame someone and steal computer resources.

I believe the minimum for the hacker charge is 5 years. They USUALLY don't get it, but I know someone that got WORSE! I think the other charges are WORSE! He is LUCKY that he didn't get LIFE! I hope the prisoners hear that he is a "pedophile", because apparently that will make his time mean more to others.

Pure psychopath and should be considered for the Death Penalty.

Trust me ,there is no stopping this individual when he does get out.

And he will. When he does he will strike more people and ruin more peoples' lives'

I know it is harsh and God forgive me ,but sometimes the only way to stop people like this is to exterminate them just like when you get roaches in your house

Edit: Oh okay a Thread from 2011

Well hacking to people's privacy is a shitty deed because it will haunt you in the future. The intruders are laughing and have the joy of their life but they don't know that their time will come and they will pay for it.

And we don't know what's in store for them if the tide will turn. Goodluck Intruders!
