Petra Ecclestone 'to buy most expensive home in the US' - Telegraph

The sprawling 57,000ft French chateau-style uber-mansion in Los Angeles has more than 100 rooms, including 14 bedrooms, and has been on the market priced at $150 million (£92 million) since 2009. It was previous owned by Candy Spelling, the wife of Aaron Spelling.

It was the most expensive listed property in the US for 150M. The actual transaction price is not known, but was reported to be $85M. The purchase was to be all case with no mortgage required.

Common you guys, she is still single. Get her and stop her fiancee James Stunt from pulling off the greatest stunt in his life by marrying her. Her sister Tamara is also single, she is a lingerie model and probably more fun to be around.

Not if the "kill factor" is correct, if you know what I mean.

A good all weekend session will fix that problem.

On the other hand maybe not.

    Overrated, overrated, overrated...

    and so is the house....:p

It took them years to build that house, every time I went past it on my way to work, the only thing I would think, is if I were building a house like that I would have built in Malibu, not where he did.

    Edit:
Even for LA that house was gaudy...there was major 'stuff' talked when they built that place, remember most of it. Anyway here is the Wiki on it The Manor

    Houses like that disgust me.

I mean, yeah ... it's big and it's grand and it's sort of nice. But it's just so ... fake. And light-coloured. Yuck. Give me a dark old English country house (or even a relatively small, cosy, characterful cottage) over one like that any day.

As for her ... let's just say that if she didn't have the money for the clothes, shoes and amount of makeup she wears - or if it wasn't in the interest of these magazine peeps to photoshop the hell out of her - she'd be "nowt the summat", neither. (And even that can't stop her head looking like a Little Green Man's).

"The truth is out there ..."

(Sorry - all comments relating to appearance are about Tamara, in response to the pics posted by Derek ... though parts might apply equally to Petra.)

      Yes, I don't disagree with a word.

I mean, I'd like to have that house, but I'd either sell it or rent it out immediately: I wouldn't ever move in to it. :p

(She really does have some nice shoes: some of those are Louboutins).

I'd be happy with a $1M 6 bedroom, 5 bath, with study and game room if I made millions per year. That would be more than enough seeing as the most kids I would want would be 3. As for those of you that say you can't get that for that price, you can here in DFW. Texas has one of the best economies and housing markets in the nation for a big metropolitan area. As for that house, I've seen celebrity, especially athletes houses on Cribs that rivaled that for a fraction of the price. Just because it's French Chateau style and in L.A. doesn't make it worth that much. That's just asinine, but gaudy, so it fits with those 2 chicks.

I was curious about the father and wondered how he got his money. He really is self-made. His father was a fisherman, and he (Bernie Ecclestone) quit school at 16 to go work for the local gasworks.

He came from nothing to billionaire. It looks like Petra is no dummy either. She started her first clothing lable at age 19, and has a short history of being a good business woman.

That house at $85 million was probably a bargain, and will be a profitable deal.

I think it was a good deal as it has been on the market for a while at $150m.

I could live very well on what it costs to run that house

I've read, too, that she's good in business but let's face it - she was able to start her own business because of Daddy's money. If she took it from there on her own, more power to her.

Have to say, the pictures of the "kids" with Dad makes me wonder what mama looked like....

Having a friend big RE there, it wasn't she who bought, but daddy Bernies cash (well really his ex-wifes cash now ), just like all the other properties the family owns. The news may spin it as hers, but all Bernie/ex-wife is doing is investing in RE. They can afford it lol. Be like if I had 3 kids and bought a house for each one of them... whose are they really when it was my cash. Her mom "gifted" her almost 83 million

You would be very surprised just how little tax people pay, that know what they are doing & have large amounts of money.

Wealth isn't only about earning money, half the work is saving money, that includes knowing tax laws.

I read an article about a guy trying to make a point that the tax laws in the US allowed anyone to get away with paying almost nothing in tax money each year. I think his salary was around $200k a year, & his tax per year was something like $2k. The guy made it a point to tell everyone about how he was getting away with the low tax, he paid a 1% tax rate for the 2009 tax year!

          [article source]
Schoenberg, who now teaches a business class at Columbia University, said his income is usually "north of half a million a year." But 2009 was a bad year for investments, so his income dropped to a little over $200,000. His federal income tax bill was a little more than $2,000.

You could very well be right Yukon. I don't know anything about tax to be perfectly honest. I just thought it was cool that Bernie Ecclestone started from nothing and made his way in the World.

I'm sure that 99% of what Bernie spends his money on is a business expense.

It's worth the money to find a competent tax person to have on your side. This alone could amount to extra income.

If Bernie made his money honestly and treated his employees and associates fairly and with dignity, I have no problem with his wealth. I really don't know enough about the guy to judge him.

She is not successful in business, her clothing company has gone under and is under administration. Here is a less charitable write up about her in the Daily Mail.

Petra Ecclestone, the girl whose full-time job is spending Daddy's billions | Mail Online

The house itself is not in a good state. It will take many millions to fix it up and it could take up to 20 million a year to maintain. Therefore it is very unlikely to make a profit for the purchaser. The Spellings were not that happy wheile living in that house, they had trouble finding each other there.

It seemed inconceivable that a 22 year old will want to live in a house like that. Therefore, there is a lot speculation on whether she is the true buyer or whether she is fronting for someone else like Ambani or Mittal. However, the two mentioned certainly have no history of avoiding the limelight.

It was also reported that Petra took a 80M loan from her mother to buy this house. So it does seem like that she will live there, but we will have to wait and see.

Every time I see something like this I immediately think...

What in God's name does someone do with a house that contains 14 bedrooms?

This article states it has over 100 rooms. How long does it take to walk from one end to the other?

Another question. What do the super rich do when they want something simple but don't have it, like a pickle in the middle of the night?

Do they really walk through their shopping mall sized home to one of their 10 cars and then drive to the local 24 hour super market to get a jar of pickles?

Or do the super rich not get a pickle craving at 11pm like some of us "normal" folk do?

The old "where did I lay that down" would become a serious problem, wouldn't it.

What do the super rich do when they want something simple but don't have it, like a pickle in the middle of the night?
I expect they would wake up one of the "help" and request it. Would be a problem for me as I wouldn't want to disturb someone's sleep so I'd do without the pickle. I'd never find the kitchen in a house that size. Or, if I found the kitchen, would never find my room again. Does a house like that have maps with arrows saying "you are here"?
