This is what we've been dealing with here in DFW. This is from an article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram:

"The temperature hit triple digits for the 26th consecutive day on Wednesday and the heat advisory was extended until 8 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Dallas-Fort Worth is also under a level orange air pollution watch.

The area is now just three days away from moving into a tie for second place on the all-time list of consecutive 100-degree days.
Unfortunately, two weather-related records have been set already this week.
The morning low of 86 at 7:53 a.m. Tuesday was the hottest minimum temperature ever recorded by the National Weather Service at its official Dallas-Fort Worth monitoring station.
And on Monday, Fort Worth Water Department customers used a record 358.1 million gallons, eclipsing the old mark of 343.3 million gallons on Aug. 18, 2006.

As if that isn't enough, the region keeps climbing the top 10 list of consecutive triple-digit days.

Yes, it's hot here and has been for weeks. What they fail to say is that before the 26 days, there was another like 3 weeks worth of 100 degree heat which started before summer actually began. So really since somewhere around 6/10, we've only had about 3 days under 100. Those were like 98.

So, is anyone else having ridiculous heat or has had it for awhile now. I lived in Phoenix so I know it's hot there but dryer than here. I'm referring to other areas of the U.S.

Well, in July it's gotten all the way up to 80 twice. In June, the warmest day was 77.

A bit on the cool side even by Seattle standards, but I'll take that over what you're having any day.

That reminds me of the time we went to South Dakota in August back in 2008. They said they were having a heat wave that might kill people and it was only like 86 degrees with half the humidity from where we live in DFW, which was also 105 at the time. We thought it amusing. Then after that we traveled to visit my aunt who lives in the mountains of New Mexico and they were having a heat wave of 78 degrees. She said usually it only gets up to maybe 70 degrees due to the elevation.

It also hasn't rained here in something like 2 months either so there's brown grass everywhere. I'd love your weather right about now.

Yeah - summers get way hot where there's miles of cement. Go figure. Last winter somewhere in TX they were breaking records for cold, too.

The bright idea of the century for dealing with how hot cities get in summer? Painting everything white so it will reflect heat instead of absorb it.

I live in desert right now - right down the road there are forested areas and you can feel a 10 degree or more drop in heat when you enter the forested areas. Don't know much about TX, but I'm thinking that part of it is desert to begin with. I would assume that people might know when they live in derserts it's gonna get hot? LOL - I used to hear people that moved to SW Idaho complaining about global warming because it was getting so hot. RCA dog head tilt. Um, yeah. You just moved to a desert. You didn't expect hot summers? WTF?

Anyway - it's hot here in North Nevada, too - but it's desert and actually not as hot as usual - CA where I came from has been abnormally cool and rainy all year. There are a lot of areas of the globe that are no longer in the droughts of previous years. Guess your area isn't one of them -- but then how many million people and miles of buildings and cleared land do you have? Might be time to stop building more cement and start revegetating.

Would be interesting to go back to the record years and check out the highs and lows of that year - you'll find we're reverting to the weather of the 70's in many locations.

Yes in Ferndale, MI (Metro Detroit) it has been 95-105 for the three weeks straight. Very humid, usually cannot sleep under air cond all evening. Nights are very very hot. But in Michigan we get exactly 3 months of summer, so we dont complain. Most summers we may get a couple days with temps that high, normally 80s are it. The power has been going out in various towns in the area and we have had some crazy lightning storms, but afterward the temp climbs back up there...

I was raised in Flushing (just outside of Flint). It gets hotter out West (usually) in the summer, but it's not nearly so unbearable because the air is dry. When I think back to life in Michigan I remember all that terrible humidity in the air on 90+ summer days and wonder how people survive that stuff. It's like living in a sauna. But then - it was an awesome excuse to head north to the forests and lakes, too.

    Sunfyre,

I feel for you. I moved from NW Fort Worth about 2 weeks before the Ice Bowl this year. It appears to have been a wise move.

I'm in Florida now, near Tampa. It has warmed up a bit but we are having afternoon rains 4 or 5 days a week. I'll take it! I wish I could send you some of the rain though.

    Try to stay cool.

You lived relatively close to me as I live by Benbrook and 820 on the West side of Fort Worth.

How are you liking Tampa? I lived in Orlando for awhile, which I think is only an hour or so away from Tampa. I liked the weather there. It rained a bit each day and the temperatures were more moderate.

Yep. I did some real estate investing in the Benbrook area.

I like the Tampa/Clearwater area. I lived here in my late teens-early twenties. Ahh... the memories.

I'm just happy that we have green grass at the end of July.
