As I'm typing this, it is happening.
61 year old Diana Nyad is swimming from Cuba to the Keys in Fl. without a shark cage.

Or the stupidity Awards being a veteran diver who has dove all around that region, that area is Shark infested waters, and while I have dove with Hammerheads in Cocos Islands, Galapagos Sharks and Silky Sharks in Galapagos islands, Bull Sharks in the Bahamas, Blacktip Sharks in Belize, White tip Sharks in Costa Rica and Great White Sharks in S Africa

YOU WOULD NOT CATCH ME DEAD doing what she is doing

Thanks Thom. I can show this to anyone who ever calls me nuts again. I'm sure they will concede my normalcy after reading that one.

What I think is the important thing here Sal is her age.
I've been saying for a while now that I feel better then I ever have in my life.
She's pretty much saying the same thing, and I think you can relate also
It's nice approaching 60 and feeling like 30

What would be even more amazing would be if the swimmer was going from Florida to Cuba.

        That would confuse the sharks.

She's in an odd sort of shark cage - the nearby boats are using some kind of electrical field to keep sharks at bay.

Pretty amazing feat even without being shark bait.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Yeah - the swim would be enough, though, Thom. Deciding to defy the laws of nature isn't a test of youthful vitality -- it's a form of stupidity that decreases your odds of ever getting older.

I am often told I am too old to climb mountains, and be in the wild by myself -- but I never go out there expecting the animals to get together and decide to just ignore me because it's a human "sportscar sort of thing".

I can respect this woman's drive to do the swim -- to blatantly oppose protection from sharks isn't something that I admire. I think if she did so she was just plain senile. I'm really glad to hear that there are boats offering protection against them. The way it was stated "no shark cage" makes me think that there was a little media spin on this one to get people to read the story. Not at all as ludicrous as it sounded. -

She had shark protection Sal, just not a cage. She swam in a low voltage electric field similar to those invisible fences people have for their dogs. There where also divers at the ready in her support boats who where ready to jump in and deter any sharks that looked like they could get to close.
It was the current that ended her swim though. Some things in nature you just can't beat.

    Current Affairs:

Well since they used electric currents to detour the sharks the sharks were probably
swimming away so fast that their tails created the under currents that stopped
her from finishing the swim to Florida...lol (Karma)

Okay, okay, I'll shut up now. :p

    Have a Great Day!
