Newbie's gone mad....

So,
This may not have anything to do with anything................... however, I find it quite odd! I know it most likely wasn't anyone that uses this forum regularly, but, it makes me think that the possibility that people stalk this forum for 'newbies' might be possible.

I have NEVER gotten a virus so nasty, EVER! I am a newbie to internet marketing, but, I've been on the internet from BEFORE the internet............back when there were BBS's. So, I'm not internet illiterate!

Anyways, I had announced that I was a newbie on this forum, and the next morning (this morning), I was on this forum, and I got a virus that none of my regular viral protection recognized. It looked like it came from windows itself. It was a scan that popped up. It started listing all these worms, trojans, and viruses that I had. Actually.............. 93 of them to be exact. So, I let the 'scan' run. Then, it said that I had to activate the software for only $59.99. I thought it was strange, and I couldn't recognize the url that was asking for money. So, I got on the phone with windows, and they told me this has been a problem for about 6 months now.

If any of you get this, there is a free fix. CALL WINDOWS SUPPORT!!

I think it was a coincidence that you were at the warrior forum when you got that message. There is at least one fake antivirus company that actually infects your computer, then offers to sell you the solution to get rid of the infection. Sounds like you picked that up somewhere.

Have you used Google's image search recently? My antivirus picked up an attempt to infect my system when clicked through to an image. I can't recall what I was searching for, but it isn't something you'd expect to be a trap, like an actor or actress. I think it was background textures, but it could have been animals too as I recently made an "alien animal" picture for my newsletter.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Yes, I was using a search for some blogs on another window. It could have been that as well . It was the nastiest virus I had ever seen! I was very happy to find out that windows had a fix for it!

Yeah, I don't think this forum allows such things. That is NOT to say that you can't use this, or ANY website, to click to another that DOES allow them. The way I see it, newbie can mean at least 6 things on this board. Only ONE is one that you mentioned, that you were on a forum. BTW MANY BBSs were NOT hooked to a backbone, and maybe few that were were hooked to the internet. In any event, any related issues/techniques used today have NOTHING to do with what backbone a BBS did or didn't use.

NOW, there are 7 things about the internet today that you must be aware of:

    1. Http allows the sending of files.
    2. M/S Windows "Security" was designed with NO thought and it allows other sites to use, and even replace programs.
    3. Vista and windows 7 MIGHT warn you, but it does that all the time, and never really gves details, so it isn't all that great.
    4. Other sites can emulate windows messages, and people usually respond accordingly.
    5. Some sales people use this.
    6. Some people, having nothing to sell, may even provide a routine to provide problems it is purported to fix!
    7. Such people may automatically install software that can destroy your life!

SO, you fell victim to an antivirus trojan virus! Long story short? If you see an odd message like this, try to shut down IE by using the task manager. If you CAN'T do that, click the exit button on the top right of the form. Don't click ANY other button because, if it hasn't already installed, THAT will probably install it! ALSO, don't forget, they MAY be timed! ALSO, a visit to a site can install a virus which may LATER bring up the form. It is SNEAKY! *****BUT***** if you kill the browser, with the message on top, and the message disappears, you can be PRETTY sure it was a trick to try to get you to install it.
