I prefer living in Thailand in that it is peaceful and politically stable. Like the other places it is well developed hence an opportunity to make use of resources and potentialities to the maximum potential.

Hawaii, Ecuador, Uruguay, Estonia, Croatia, British Channel Islands, Montenegro, Corsica ... are on my list (there are still three I haven't yet been to, to look/discover).

Not to mention Japan and New Zealand ...

My ideal place to live?... Fantasyland

Where there are no doorbells or phones.

Mute women, free beer, kids that listen...

    and no mother in laws.

Ahhh talk about Heaven! Well I am compelled to live out in the Vancouver BC area and I am going to make that happen, rather sooner than later. I have grown very very tired and sick of Toronto.

Sounds like Monaco? (more or less)
more big fancy ships - less big shipyards to fancy...
more cirque du soleil - less circus circus...
more high roller - less mountain high...
plus more close borders...less border guards close

I am already living in the Philippines, no secret. Where the women are the color of cinnamon, the air is fresh, and the water is clear.

But it's not enough for me, oh no.

I want a nice big flat, like a modern day castle. I also want some palace grounds so I stroll around like a Prince. Maybe even some Japanese clone zen gardens and a little bridge over a constantly refreshing stream of coy.

I want the ability to walk around in a cloak and leather knickers. Without fear of retribution and mosquito bites.

I want lots of women to play kinky games with me.

This is the place where I want to live. If I cannot live there than life is not worth living.

Why do something for the rest of your life that you hate? I can make the world a better place by pursuing my dreams.

            LOL.

He's quite welcome to parade around in his Batman gear and play kinky games with ladies to his heart's content, here, but I reserve exclusive rights to the distribution of the resultant film and all profits it generates. Because don't we all have dreams of living in a castle staffed with kinky cinnamon servant girls?

I, for one, won't be denying it.

I'm still looking for my ideal place. I spent a year in Uruguay, and found that it really wasn't for me. Now I'm in Paraguay, at least until the summer gets here.

Next year, if my business gets to the level I want, I plan to spend much of it traveling through Asia - lots of countries I want to visit there. Ultimately, I expect I'll get apartments in a few different countries (in different climates). Then I can just go wherever it feels like spring or autumn.

Interesting ... were you in Montevideo?

If you have time to post again, may I ask what aspects of it made you decide it wasn't really for you?

Yes, I was in Montevideo. For most of the time, in an apartment two blocks from Pocitos Beach.

The biggest thing that got to me about Uruguay was that it's not a very dynamic place. It felt like everyone decided that one day 25 years ago was the perfect day - and they never want anything to be different from that day. So most of the entrepreneurial college graduates move overseas, there are very few foreign restaurants, and things change very slowly there.

I'm looking to get in on the ground floor of a place that's growing and has opportunities. Kind of like Hong Kong in the 1970s. I may have found that here in Asuncion, Paraguay, but it's still a little early to say that definitively.

However, Montevideo was a nice place. The people are friendly, the food is tasty (especially if you like beef), and there are some cool things to do there. If you have any other questions, or decide to go there, let me know. I still have friends and contacts there.

It's a nice day today in Vancouver!...enjoy it while you got it -

Let's face it - a nice day (even a bad day) in PDX beats a nice day in a lot of other parts of the world !

Also...what a perfectly great name for a place to get away from it all....-*Phuket

LOL - I just mean that I like the area I live in and don't really want to live anywhere else. But I would love to move out of this house and buy a house with a few acres in the same area. Just happens that the closest acreage properties are about 10 minutes east

My ideal spots are in order of preference:

      1. Ceunca Ecuador - 1/2 mil people, old colonial architecture, amazing food (fresh fruits like you may have never seen), real estate prices are really attractive, residency requirements are easy, very slow relaxed pace, internet is at least 4.2 meg sec down now through cable(only about 2 up), great expat community, tons of free stuff to do all the time, tons of paid stuff to do all the time as well.

      2. Montevideo Uruguay - If you like carne and mate this is heaven on earth. Tons to do, Punta Del Este is right up the road but you don't have to live there, decent internet with latency and packet loss issues minimal, The rambla in front of pocito's is nice (watch for dog poop though - no scooper laws), parilla's and mate vendors on nearly every corner (man the food is tasty) and for the most part people are very cool.

      3. Medellin Antioquia Colombia - Because all work and no play can make Jack a dull boy!

There you have it, my personal list, to each their own eh...
