Pasted below is a copy of an email that I received and just opened this morning. It's from a "Mrs. Van Mary" and she wants to inform me that DHL is on the way to my house to deliver an ATM Card with $2.5 million in it.

First, I'm to send all my personal information to DHL...which apparently has fallen upon hard times as they must use a "hotmail" email address.

Even more impressive is the fact that others might say this is only a "scam" email, but all the funny mistakes in it aside, it's in fact a squeeze page. A sales funnel.

It's immediately establishes the sender as an authority, it dangles a prize in your face, and then uses pressure tactics to motivate you to act by making it clear, "this offer won't last long"!

I've taken out some of the "personal" information of the sender.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to arrange to get my $2.5 mill ASAP!

Who would fall for this nowadays? Who indeed.

If they're doing it, it's working. If they can get ONE person to send their information, that's enough to do a lot of damage.

The information would probably be sold then to more capable thieves who would parlay that into ordering stuff in that person's name, opening God-knows-what for accounts, maybe get a few credit cards? Who knows.

But SOMEBODY will fall for it. That's why this has been going on for so long. It does work.

But I dunno -- it almost fooled me LOL ...it does sound pretty official!

I know of at least two idiots that would fall for this. They used to work for me as a husband and wife sales team.

Once they decided to get some credit cards by applying online. Guess how that worked out for them. Can you say negative bank balance once the $250 charge hit their bank account that they agreed to when they signed up.

All I could do was shake my head and tell them, if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.

I wonder what the conversion rate for these scam emails are since they've been circulating for years and years... First it was those Nigerian princes and now federal governments. If you guys have time, read this article:

Hell, I knew this guy, a chef, was in a networking group with me. He used to cook meals for people in their homes, executive chef kinda thing, but, sadly, he was not very accustomed to the ways of the world. I knew this when he kept telling me about the royalty that was coming to America that he was going to cook for. "Royalty?" I inquired..."Yes" he said "I am cooking for a Nigerian Prince and his court...they are coming over here next month for a big meeting and I am cooking their dinner..." I shuddered, then asked "How much did you give them...?" He looked shocked, and said "Well...I had to give them $2500 for the deposit of the food, that's all. They will give that back when they come over here and pay me for the dinner..." No bs...the guy sent $2500 to pay for food he was cooking for a client...I don't need to tell you how it ended I'm sure.

I saw a report on the Nigerian scams on 20/20 or a show like that...the Nigerians said, they land "big fishes in America all the time because they are greedy and want to believe in easy money" they basically target Americans because of the mindset. Some may say this means we are just DUMB...I say that there is so much freedom and opportunity, we truly BELIEVE we can hit it big...glass half full thinking if you will...but...yeah, some of us are just DUMB....hahahaha

These scammers are out everywhere lately. I keep winning the lottery daily from some other country.

I remember one time, a good friend of mine turned the game around on a scammer. It was for a purchase of his car that he had sold on Ebay. The scammer wanted him to send back the extra money that he "accidentally" had sent. Well after a bunch of communication, my friend got the account number to where he was suppose to deposit the money to.

Well, the scammer must have given his personal account information. The wheels turned quick on him as my friend made a withdraw from the account of $6500 and had donated it to the childrens hospital.

This was a couple years ago, but I just had to have a huge laugh when all this was going on. They must take us for granted.

The sad thing is that there are people out there who will fall for it.

    But the good news is..........

I won the UK lottery today - Even though I live in Australia and have never in my life entered a UK lottery - I WON

I won it yesterday and the day before too - I am seriously rich after all these lottery wins!

Are you kidding? I'm worth Billions!! Billions I tell you!!
If I added up all my rich relatives who have worked (coincidentally) in the oil and gas industry and (also oddly by coincidence) all died in horrible car accidents while working in Africa...
and ME as their SOLE heir and beneficiary?
I would be much too busy to be speaking with you unlucky peasants....

Sadly comical - there was a story in the SJ Mercury News years ago of a community college teacher in the San Jose area who actually fell for the 419 scam and put a 2nd mortgage on his house to complete the transaction. Luckily for him he mentioned it to someone who got him to think about it a little closer...before he sent the REST of the money...

It only takes 1 in a million suckers...I guess

There is a 419 club in Portland, Or, who read their Scam letters in coffee clubs like poetry...I guess you might as well have fun with them!

You would be surprised how many would! There are zillions of computer illiterate folks out there.

I was watching a news story a while back of a lady who "thought" she was helping her sister who had fallen ill. Sister B (the ill sister) had received emails and Sister A not knowing any better answered the emails with Sister B's personal information as requested. This particular story aired about 2 years after the fact and they were STILL trying to get her stolen identity cleared up.

And it's not just online, there are still the "Grandma/Grandpa I'm in some foreign country and I've been arrested I need a zillion dollars so I can pay the bail" scams going on. I caught a news story a couple of weeks about someone who fell for it.

This one it was a Grandma & she thought there was some oddness in the voice, but the scammer gave an "explanation" about it as well as had all the answers whenever questioned about other things.

And the newest one going around, where people claim via hacked email & Facebook accounts that they're stranded overseas, everything has been stolen & they need money. I've heard a lot of folks have fallen for that one as well.

I think this is a scum, how in the world such a ATM card can hold a $2.5 Million, in this world only few people own such as a card, and $2.5 Million with doing nothing, I don't think so.

My friend did that he received a couple & started playing along (fake info he knew better) and asked them about themselves and sent photos back and forth (his were fake). After he had his fun he sent an email about being with some law enforcement agency and they sent a final "I'm sorry never should have bothered you please don't get me in trouble" type email back.

I should not speak ill of my country men, but it does make me laugh, I am only half Nigerian by the way, but I spent 12 years there. it amazes me how much time they must put into trying to scam people, if they put half that effort into real honest business they would be so much better off.
