Do You Ever Go Boating?

Hey everyone! I was just taking a break from my usual IM and online work and decided to ask a random question. I am a boating enthusiast and love the water so I was wondering if anyone else was a boater and if so where are you from.

    Yeah, all the time.

See I live in the Philippines which is a bunch of islands a dozen or so miles apart, actually in kilometers. Boat travel is common so to get from one island to another I "boating"

Or are you talking about glass bottom boating for tourists? If so, I've only been boating once on a rubber dinghy. Couldn't even see the bottom that day, the water was rough.

Riding a canoe with outriggers is pretty cool too. They build these really big ones out of plywood and rubber sealant and take those all the way out into the sea. I am scared of those things so I stick to the fast ferries.

My favorite ferry boats are the catamarans. You don't feel like you are rocking from side to side when you're taking a catamaran. Too bad I get sea sick easily.

Some times, I fantasize about owning my own yacht. I could even bring women aboard. But than I get really scared somebody's going to board using their little bancas (Filipino word for canoe with twin outriggers.) and hijack my luxury yacht.

So I am going to be happy with public transportation. For now.

It isn't that dangerous if you do it right and start out with something you can handle. Michigan is really nice for smaller and bigger boats so we have a variety of options for boating.

Uh, we already had the two happiest days in a boat owners life - the day we bought it, then the day we sold it. Never again! That thing darn near ate us out of house and home.

One time we needed some engine work done, gave the ignition key to the mechanic and sent him to the marina. He called us several hours later with some questions about our boat, but none of his questions made sense.

It turned out, he had gone to the wrong boat, our ignition key worked that boat too, and he had completely taken apart the inboard engine on someone else's boat.

Exactly why we like belonging to a yacht club.

They have whatever boat you reserved all clean, gassed and ready to go for you. You call the dock 10 min before you are going to be going back in. They are there standing and waiting for you.

You throw them the tie line, get out and go into the bar for a drink.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

Of all the pleasure crafts I've ever had - my Kobie Cat was one of my all-time favorites. Oh what a hoot!!!

I used to keep it on Lake Huron. It was vandalized a couple of times - tramp sliced to shreds with a beer bottle and something damaged the hull, but was worth the repairs just to sail/race again! I eventually gave it to my brother, as I'm on a smaller lake now!

      I sure do miss 'er.

2 boats here, one a small fishing boat. The other a small sailing yacht. Can't keep me off the water for very long.

        Where?

Cornwall, UK. Some of the best sailing waters in Europe and stunning scenery.

It is fun. But mostly I like to go out, anchor and relax. Then again I have gone sky diving and thought it was nice but have not gone again because I did not find it hat entertaining.

Others really find the speed of boating to be their main interest.

      You would probably like it.
