    Actually he is right.

IM can only go so far.

Its good to use IM to start out earning money.

But people who really earn the millions to billions are people who grow out of IM.

hint: do u see any IMers in the forbes list?

I think it depends on your definition of "IM."

If it is this sad thing where you sell "how to make money on the internet" to people who want to make money on the internet, then you are right, it is limited and you won't see any "Forbes List" people there.

If it is actually "internet marketing", namely, using the internet to market products or services, then there are PLENTY of IMers on the Forbes lists:

Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google)
      Pierre Omidyar (Ebay)
      Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)
      Jeff Bezos (Amazon)
David Filo and Jerry Yang (Yahoo)
      Mark Cuban (Broadcastcom)

And those are just the billionaires. Many multimillionaires too, based on selling stuff via the internet.

The internet is just a communication tool and because it's quite cheap to use - many do. How many people would open a store to sell dogs blankets - or even print advertising to generate sales. Digital production and communication is much cheaper and so a much lower level of skill and risk is involved. But it's just a communication medium -

Oops, and to answer Soopy's original question on offline ways to make $100K/year, here are a few I know of:
        • Senior Chemical Engineer (typically $105-130K/year)
        • Dentist, Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant...
        • Medical Imaging Specialist (fellow I went to high school with is some sort of radiation scanning technician, and makes well over $100K/year, here in Canada)
        • Hot Dog Vendor (fellow I went to Engineering school with quit his oil refinery job and now is a street vendor in Edmonton, only works late Spring - Fall, and claimed to net over $130K/year)
        • Landscaper - I know a few who make well over $100K/year, again only working spring-fall. I worked for one a long time ago. One specialty was the spring cleanup (power raking, edging, cutting, aerating) - he could do 12+/day, and back then was charging $80. With summer and fall services, he easily made over $100K. His equipment (old trailer, old station wagon to pull it, old mower etc. didn't cost that much - a few thousand $. My friends and I schemed to create our own such service, but in the end we were broke and nobody wanted to risk it compared to getting some minimum wage job...
        • Drycleaner - another fellow I went to High School with, was frankly a complete dunce (I thought), started by offering a service to pick up and drop off drycleaning at office towers downtown. He eventually bought his own drycleaning plant, and is now a multi, multi millionaire. I don't know how much he paid, but before he bought it, his house was listed at over $2M...and he has other homes in Europe, US, Mexico, and the Far East. Also on his 4th wife now.
        • Airline Pilot - another engineering alum of mine, went straight from Engg school to pilot school and flies jumbo jets.
        • Plumber - if you have any hustle and willing to be a freelancer rather than working for some big plumbing outfit, you can easily do over $100K/year. A plumber just quoted me $80 to snake my toilet (plus $100 call out fee). I bet he won't spend 10 minutes here.
        • Pipefitter - my step-brother only works shutdowns, part of the year, and makes $100K+. Lives in the camps, so doesn't even have food or lodging expenses while working. Spends the rest of the year sailing around Vancouver Island.
        • Leadburner - a specialized welder who welds lead onto stuff (like tanks that will hold strong acids and such). There aren't many, and the one I spoke to some years ago charges $3000/day for his labor. He couldn't keep up with demand.
        • Strippers - I was chatting with one at a fast food place about a decade ago (place was crowded, so she sat at my table). Claims to make over $1000/night at a good place, works 200 nights a year. Boyfriend "holds" most of her money, which seems a big flaw in her plan as far as I am concerned...and she was pretty physically gifted (plus the silicone), so not anyone could do that...

        There are so many others...

        Regards, Georgetta

        Thanks for that list.

But i have to say, i understand where converting traffic is coming from.

You see, its like the same as looking at the list of people who made it big but were school dropouts.
Famous school/college dropouts Photos | Famous school/college dropouts Pictures - Yahoo!

Yes its good, but if u were to compare the big scale picture of all the school dropouts and graduates, how many are successfull and how many are not.

that is the real story. Yes all this school dropouts that make it big are 1 in a ...?? million?

So its actually easier to be a graduate and earn a stable living income by getting a job.

So having said that, what he is trying to compare i think, its the big scale.

There are many people earning millions and billions who are investors, be it property investors, art investors, etc. and business owners, like oil companies, telecom companies etc.

Online marketing can make it big, but its only the top few that make it big, and there are only a few who can shine and will shine.

Further more, i want to add that google and facebook and all the other good brands that make it big online do have offline presence and company.

So i would say in a way that is classified under business.
Online marketing or internet marketing now a days is meant for people who are just doing things online with no offline presense, like freelancing, or just affiliate marketing.

Meaning they do not have an offline office. Its just a website company kind of thing.

This you will never go far.

With internet marketing and affiliate marketing, u see people earning millions the most. u dont see people earning billions and topping the forbes list.

        Because its impossible.

Im not really good at expressing myself, but i hope u get what i meant.

Google and all those are big corporate companies, not some website started up by 1 guy and maybe rent a virtual office.

If u stay on the internet purely, u will never get out of the millions. That is the limit.

If u see statistics, online transactions are in billions, so its a billion dollar industry, how far can 1 person go interms of getting a share of this pie.
If the industry itself is in billions, can 1 person online take a billion dollar share in this pie? i doubt so.

If u take forex, or stocks, or property, its in teh trillions, so a billionaire from this industry is believable and doable.

        best wishes.
