Hopped in the car after work today and realized I forgot to prop the sunshield thingy on my dash this morning... BIG MISTAKE!

Jeeeez!

I didn't realize it made such a difference. Needed gloves to turn the steering wheel. Everything I touched was HOT.

Driving through Sugarland, I happened to glance down at the temp gage... 110 degrees. Wow. That's a first for me. Snapped a pic with the cellphone.

Today was going to be my first day to get myself back into jogging... It's been a few years. I wasn't going to make excuses.

But a bird landed on the street beside me as I was stopped at a light. It hopped about a bit, and just as I wondered if it's little feet were hot, it burst into flames.

Again, I didn't want to make excuses and avoid jogging, but I really didn't need to see that.

Anyone else getting scorched?

5 more days and we get to be the hottest summer on record in DFW. This is for total days of 100+ temperatures. We missed the consecutive days streak by one and set the record for most nights at or above 80 degrees ever. Technically 1980 will be known as hotter temperatures and a longer streak, but we should be able to break the total days at or over 100 degrees at 70 or more days. That's ridiculous.

Hell we're looking at September up here and still haven't gotten any real summer heat. Maybe a day or two that came almost to 100 - but this is desert. It should be over 100 for days or weeks at least in the middle of summer. The nights here are famous for heat in August - I'm wearing a freaking sweater after dark.

CA wasn't getting their usual heat when I left there either. From what I've heard from others in OR, WA, and ID it's not as hot as usual.

When I was in Idaho about 2005, we had the record streak of consecutive over 100 days - 11 in a row. Judging from the cooler summers the W/NW regions are now experiencing, I think our nice hot spells are over for this inter-galacial period.

As far as you folks in Texas -- good luck. With all that oil sludge hampering the natural gulf currents, you might just end up dry and frying every summer until those currents start moving again - which will be around.......um.......ever? Who knows how long that crap will take to settle out.
