Every school year we buy new shoes for the kids. We usually will buy a name brand and hope they last all year. Yesterday my daughter's picked out DC Shoes and the other picked Converse.

What do you think?

I think name brands are thought about too much. I think people should focus on a person and not on the person's appearance...not saying you or your kids do that though. One of my favorite pairs of shoes I had before was a cheapo pair from Kmart. They were plain looking and cheap, but they were comfortable. Right now my only pair of shoes is Van's and they are pretty comfy. I've been wearing the same pair for over two years now, lol. Their comfy, but they don't look so good anymore....

Provide name brand shoes only for the ones you love. Give Wal-Mart shoes to the others.
Hopefully you love all your kids.

My wife is the worlds greatest thrift shopper and ends up buying out sons Nikes, Vans and the like but she almost never spends more than $10 USD on a pari of shooes, and I don't think she has ever paid more than $20 for any of the kids' shoes. But the name brand part of the equation does not really matter to any one in our house yet. The kids might get to the point where only the latest and greatest sneakers are good enough, but I doubt it. We aren't terribly materialistic around here.

Unfortunately we have to buy brand name shoes for my 3 year old son as he has wide feet and need special half size shoes.
They cost us approx £25 ($50) a pair and at 3 his shoes are more expensive than mine!

My kids just love Barbie. We buy new school shoes for them every year, black shoes and rubber shoes. We always try to buy them shoes of at least a size bigger than the actual sizes of their feet. Because we are always hoping that they can use it for more than a year J

l learned at a very early age that quality shoes are very important, especially during the growing years. Children do not need $100.00 pairs of shoes but they do need good ones, Pay for their feet now or pay for them later.

I'm like the master of bargain shopping :p My son is only one, so he doesn't care about stuff like that yet, but I have to admit I can get a little brand-happy. However, I find bargains so that the cost of the shoe/clothing/whatever works out to what you mind find in a "cheap" shoe.

Honestly, even if I didn't find great prices I think it's essential that shoes be well made. It's not worth getting blisters and sore feet to save a few bucks. And that goes for the little ones too :p

That's why I don't get caught without sheepskin boots (Uggs...but I actually won't buy that brand and import from Australia instead) in the winter...it's like wearing slippers all the time!
