I used to be able to do about 50 slow ones.

Nowaday, probably 20 is the limit.

I serious need to get back to training.

Can anyone do 1000 straight?

Li, a much more accurate way is to fold the string in half, multiply that length by two, and you've got your measurement.

Well, you can't use string when you do push-ups...it's cheating.

And I'm still wondering why in god's name I would want to do push ups. gaakk.
That's my answer - I have no freakin' clue because I have as many intentions of doing push-ups as I have of doing sit ups. I don't believe in torturing myself to stay in shape. It's supposed to be fun and I think I'll keep it that way.

I'll do 1,000 push-ups in under 15 minutes right now for $1,000. There are 5 strings attached:

          Here are the strings:

          1. Left arm
          2. Right arm
          3. Left leg
          4. Right leg
          5. Waist

          Ready?

Jared, you win. As for me, I can do NONE of them. Zero, Zip. The pity of it is that I'm proud of it, too.

Can't do a 1000 push ups but when I was in the military I did 110 in two minutes and they were full legit push ups.

Jared the answer to your string question is the same answer that I gave to the answer of "how far is UP". Twice the distance of half way.

Ah, but are those real, manly, sweat-flowing-into-your-eyeballs, done-from-the-toes push-ups... or gentle, refined, done-from-the-knees lady push-ups that leave you, not sweating like a pig, but simply "glowing"?

I think if I got down to do a push-up...I might be able to get back up without help.

I stick to sports like golf for exercise...walking from the cart to the tee and from the cart to the green and back of course.

Tried tennis once but all that running shook up my beer too bad.

Why would I want to know how many times I can push something up somewhere? It seems to me that this question requires a little clarification. What am I pushing? Where/what am I pushing it up? Is 'up' absolute or simply a generalisation?

As for the length of a piece of string, this is another of those infuriatingly absurd questions that cannot be answered because the necessary parameters are not provided. Is the string wet? If it is wet, is it absorbent? If the string is not wet, how dry is it? Is the string under tension or is it just lying around, indolent, like? Is the length required to be a specific measure or would the answer 'long enough' or 'too short' suffice?

If you require a question to be answered because it is not rhetorical, you must provide some basis for the answer to be supported by.

Instead of thinking of it as a "Push-up", rather think of it as a "Push-down".

Think of it as pushing the Earth away from you. Makes you feel like Superman, even if you only do two of them!
