You click on a thread and the OP is giving away a PLR report as their own in the main forum.

Does this actually help build trust and credibility?

Why wouldn't you just rework the content and turn it into a must read thread?

What are your thoughts of people using PLR to create threads in our awesome forum?

I this it's perfectly fine if their thread is not spam and actually provide some good PLR packs.

Actually, you aren't supposed to be giving away any type of report on the main forum, whether original or PLR.

That being said, if it's in the Make Money Online section where it belongs, I don't care if it's PLR or original as long as the person doesn't lie about it. As long as I get value from it, it doesn't matter to me who wrote it.

I'm confused. You mean the OP is trying to sell the PLR in the thread? Or do you mean in their signature?

Giving away a report in the thread...

Sorry for the confusion, in your signature no problems there IMO!

That would just be smart marketing, right?

Giving value is one thing but putting off PLR as your own is not respectable in my mind unless you have actually altered the contents and made it your own....
Completely agree there. If you lead me to believe you wrote it and then I find it elsewhere, I'm just going to write you off as a liar. And I don't do business with liars if I can help it.

The person isn't necessarily a liar. He might have written it and sold it as PLR, so when you see it elsewhere you're seeing someone that bought the PLR from him. It's also possible someone stole his content.

This is true, Dennis. I would always double-check before making that type of judgment call. Didn't mean to sound like I wouldn't be sure before considering the person less than honest.

I know you well enough to know that, Tina. I mainly commented for the benefit of others who might not have considered that. In other words...

Tina- that is my stance on it as well, if you want to give something away then post it as a thread and be honest about whether or not you were the originator.

I have seen a few threads started with links to free report ect. To my understanding that is against the forum rules, correct?

There are exceptions to the "you're not supposed to give away anything in the main forum" rule. The exceptions are on a case by case basis.

People often give away stuff when they achieve a milestone, such as their 1000th post. You aren't supposed to link offsite to do it, but should upload the report so people can download it from the thread. Also, you can't place any requirements on it, such as forcing people to opt in to a list. It can't be just a glorified sales pitch either.

There may be more restrictions, but that's what comes to mind quickly.

As for just posting the content in the thread, that would probably make a really long post. More than most would want to read.

    My 2 cents.

    Thanks for the input everyone,
I understand the giving stuff back to the forum on your milestones but the type of threads I was referring to were newer members that were focusing on self promoting really.

Luckily the threads didn't seem to last very long at all.

I do agree with you Dennis that some reports turned into thread would be far longer than most would like to read so I see what you mean there.

Simon, you are correct. The self-promotional threads get reported and axed pretty quickly. None of want to see them, so they disappear fast.
