WF etiquette question

So you have some one post a question in one of the threads.

you answer it , then someone else comes along posts their answer
which is completely wrong.

You make another post gently trying to explain its wrong info
and then explain the proper way again
and then the next posts are even more wrong and bordering on illegal

What do you do?Keep posting the correct answer? Tell the person he is wrong and why? Send the person a PM and explain it there?

So what is the best way to handle some thing like this. with out starting a flame war , or pissing on someones street cred

just curiose

Post a link to your proof.

If you can't, don't sweat it, there is a quite a bit of fallacy for fact around.
    Here there and everywhere.

If an answer is wrong, it's wrong. If it just makes the poster look dumb, and hurts no one, I don't argue with it.

If it could cause someone else to make a decision, I will point it out and argue it if necessary. I would not go to PM - it is underhanded to me to be PMing while also posting in a thread. In threads, don't make it personal - argue points and facts, not personalities.

But also, don't insist on being "right" unless you are dead sure the other person is wrong. Sometimes there is no right or wrong - only different. In IM we often believe what we know through our experience - and may not realize there are other ways to approach the same question/method.

If you need to prove rightitude (:p) it's best to provide links or experience/results rather than conjecture or opinion.

People are always exposed to conflicting information and misinformation. It is not up to you how others process it, and worrying about it won't help you.
