One would think that a 10 year anniversary of such a horrific event would have had more impact through our media. Sadly... just like Matt says... it's a normal Sunday... watching football.

My church did a special recognition and remembrance today.... It was more than just patriotic music and a powerful video of the planes flying into the towers... It was turned instead to each of us individually. Without preaching... I'll skip to the bottom line... We are expected as Christians to forgive...not excuse... forgive those who did this terrible act. Easier said than done yes... but it is doable. The main point is when we harbor a grudge it hurts us more than the one we are angry with. Just something to ponder...

Well, I watched some films from the archive this morning. I said in 1980, and AGAIN in 2001, that we should simply have said LOOK, you really don't want war with the US. In 1980 they played musical chairs with hostages, and said that if we attacked WE might be responsible for killing the hostages, etc. If I were president I would have said "WE don't play those games and they went over there voluntarily knowing the dangers. If you don't return them, and SOON, UNHARMED, we will just blow up key targets, your homes, etc.... If THEY die, YOU will STILL be responsible, and treated accordingly"! Instead, we looked like fools. I'm sure the 1980 events helped form 2001. In 2001, people gave them too much fodder.

A number of people have spoken against the shaw(sp?), but the ayatolla was OBVIOUSLY bad, and probably FAR worse.

In that set of archives, one woman was screaming wildly after fire flared up from the crash site. I bet the attackers LOVED that. YEAH it was bad. HECK, I don't even stay too close to the front of a fireplace very long. I know I would HATE it. But the people in the WTC at that point were as good as dead ANYWAY. Some people JUMPED, even though the chance of survival was incredibly low.

And the Bible shows a LOT of ways to handle wrongs. Jesus once said "Take up your sword, and follow me". Later he rebuked the follower that cut off the soldiers ear, and he healed the ear. But that doesn't change what he said. Another part says that if you have something against another to bring two or more witnesses to the pastor, and he must apologize, make amends, and repent. in other words.... 1. Plead for forgiveness, and recognize and sympathize about the problem. 2. Make things as close as possible to at least as good as they were. 3. NEVER do it or any like thing again. If he fails to, he may be brought in front of the congregation and basically banned. TO THIS DAY the Amish do that, and some others do as well. With the amish, the entire community may shun you or even kick you out of the community. And HEY, THEY believe in forgivness, etc... But with THEM, it is a two way street! If you just forgive, and require NOTHING, you might as well forget the anger in the first place, and forget ANY prohibitions or prosecution. IMAGINE what the world would be like if that were the case! With NO guilt and NO repercussions, I hope you have a few million in spending money. Everyone might want a free TV set or ship, and want YOU to pay for it.

Jesus DID say to turn the other cheek if they hit it and to do that 70*7 times, IIRC, but I'm sure he was talking about smaller slights, etc...

As for where I was? I was at a customer site watching the planes hit the towers on TV. Luckily, I stay for a LONG time, so I didn't have to change my flights. It made me SICK that THEY were allowed to have a normal life after terrorizing the US.

BTW Interesting factoid.... I am now only a few miles from where the WTC was! In fact I was actually in the WTC area last week.

ANOTHER thing, some of the people in the tower called 911. MAN, any of the people that called 911 and followed their advice probably DIED!!!!!!!!!!! The 911 advice assumed that they had windows, the fire was relatively small, and that the fire department, or someone else, could get to THEM in a reasonable time! ******NONE****** of that was true with them!

If I answered 911, I would have said "Look, you are too high for ladders or water to get to you and they will have to deal with a LOT of big fires and thousands of people, so it is best to get out of there! Try to get out as calmly and safely as possible, and get down the stairs ASAP. The fire is currently affecting all floors from ... so once you get below there you probably have a good chance of survival". You know what the three 911 calls I heard said? "Put fabric under the doors to keep out the smoke, stay close to the floor, and *****WAIT*****! Fire trucks are at the scene!"

Think of all the hundreds, or THOUSANDS, that may be dead because of BAD ADVICE!

Not exactly Steve. In 1981 (don't remember the month, after Xmas) I was sitting off the coast of Iran. We were within four hours of making that country a parking lot. Navy SEALs had already blown up several of their offshore oil platforms.
It was extremely close to RRs inauguration. Although I don't remember the exact timeline, it was very close to the inauguration...must have been one of his first orders.

They were scared to death of that man...the Iranians knew he was not just a whistlin' dixie...

We stood down almost exactly 4 hours before invasion, something like 2:00 am...because they decided to let them go...trust me, that guy did not fool around, as I spent his entire Presidency in the overseas military...and that wasn't the only time or country that was faced down.

They may not have thought much of the previous administration...they most definitely did not wish to play with Ron.

The president, at the time I spoke of was the previous one! But thanks for explaining how something that went on for a long time changed so quickly.

BTW, to the canadians, most US businesses don't have TVs either. In fact, now that I think about it, the two I remember being in that had TVs were both insurance companies! Of course, bars and some restaurants do to capture sports enthusiasts, etc....

i feel the 9/11 documentary on cbs was a fitting tribute. it's one of those things i felt like i needed to watch. i couldn't do much that day or even now, not really, besides pray for those severley affected, including the families who lost those 2700 odd people. i agree with above as a believer, that we really do need to forgive. i also wish we could go back to those after days where everyone in the country felt together, where we all felt like we could look out for each other. sadly, it took a tragedy to have those feelings. i wonder if we can ever reach those feelings again in better times.

I remember it like yesterday, I was 19 and in class watching this happen on tv ..they let us go home for the day and I remember walking home and I swear the sky was sooo crystal clear and blue I have yet to see a beautiful day like it was on 9/11 god bless all!

Hello:

I was working as manager of a retail store at that time and I remember the day clearly for a secondary reason: that was the day a much larger competing store opened it's doors in our community, an event that would result in the owners of our store closing the business two years later and letting all the employees go.

In my case, that wasn't a bad thing because I had already been working on developing my home based business interests with intentions to get into Internet Marketing. The closure of the store just helped to move the process along sooner for me.

However, here is what I remember of the 9/11 incident, as a Canadian. We had no television in the store, but friends and family in the community were calling in to various employees and feeding us information on the attacks.

When I heard about the first plane hitting the first tower, I thought it was a light plane that had mechanical trouble. When we heard that a second plane hit the second tower, then we knew it must be a planned attack of some sort. When we heard that the planes were huge passenger liners, we couldn't believe it.

Our shock turned to horror when news came that the towers had collapsed. I knew right then that our world had forever changed. Our hearts went out to the victims and their families, and to the valiant rescue workers and all in each of the communities affected by the attacks. Members of our local churches held prayer vigils.

I know what it is like to lose a loved-one to a vicious and senseless attack and memory of the loved-one and how they were killed never leaves you. It is a burden you carry from every day forward.

My heart continues to go out to all who were affected by the 9/11 attacks. My thoughts and prayers are with you on this date of the anniversary of the event.

In the morning I was just puttering around the house and caught a glimpse of the plane hitting the building on tv - it was reruns by that time. I called my ex into the room and we sat and watched it for about an hour and a half. Don't remember much of the day - but that evening I was sitting at the bar with about 5 friends and we were discussing which of our rights were about to go out the window while we watched the news of survivors and lost on the big screen there.

I was boarding a flight to Rhodes, Greece for a week of sunshine. 10 mins before I boarded I realised I left my travellers cheques at home!
10 years on and I'm at home watching the tail end of Hurricane Katia wreak havoc outside.

Peace and love to all of my American brothers and sisters, especially those gave their lives on the front line. And also to those of other nations affected by the 9/11 atrocity.

I speak as someone affected by terrorism on a daily basis growing up in 70's and 80's Northern Ireland.

I was 10 yrs old and my mum woke me up to say there had been a disaster. In my mind, the way she had explained it, I saw little men pressing buttons and blowing stuff up

I was sitting in the school library before classes (for some reason I got to school really early), just reading a book... The tv was on to the news like always, but I wasn't really paying attention. I heard the librarian and one of the teachers gasp and it was when the first plane hit. I joined them closer to the tv and saw the reruns of it, and the second plane hit right before homeroom started.

All of the planned classes for the day were thrown out and in every class we watched the news, listened to speeches about the importance of freedom, and had long moments of silence. Half the teachers were crying most of the day and to be honest they had me convinced that it wasn't even safe to walk home (only 4-6 blocks from the school in small town Iowa). I kept looking towards the sky on the way home expecting to see planes or something...

When I got home I didn't know what to do with myself. I didn't have any homework or anything to keep me busy, my dad was out of state (getting the last of our stuff since we had just moved) my mom was at work, and my siblings were both at school or work. I think I ended up turning on the radio in every room that had one and locked myself in my room upstairs to try to not feel alone. I don't remember anything else other than my Dad being stranded for a day or two because gas stations in the area he was driving through were all sold out of gas (all the farmers panicked and filled up their huge tank trucks with gas since "we're going to war and won't have any gas")

Just as I was turning up the sound, the second plane hit. Although I'd had a couple of drinks earlier on, I was in no way drunk. My immediate thought when that happened was "Holy f*****g s**t!!! This is history happening right before my eyes."

I brewed up a batch of coffee and stayed awake for the rest of the night and watched the rest unfold flicking between the BBC, CNN, and the Aussie version of SkyNews.

Then news came out that the Pentagon had been hit by a "missile", and then more news that a plane had been shot down over Pennsylvania. Of course, at the time, chaos reigned supreme and there were all sorts of "reports" coming in about car bombs in Washington and New York, so no-one really knew what happened. It wasn't until later on that the stories became aligned with what we know today.

BTW The VERY FIRST world leader to condemn the attacks was Saddam Hussein. He no doubt thought to himself, "S**t! They're going to try and blame me for this.", and so he came straight out and condemned them, before any other world and public figures did likewise.

Well, I watched it that morning, and saw BOTH planes hit! I remember EVEN where I was standing within maybe 4 feet in any direction. That is little more than one square meter! SO, at least in the US, it WAS possible! When I first saw the first plane hit, I figured MAN, WHAT AN IDIOT, HOW culd he be so bad! When I saw the second plane hit, my first two thoughts were... WOW, we are under attack! A wonder if UBL will get blamed for THIS too!!!

As I implied earlier, UBL was getting blamed for a LOT of things like this. I don't think Saddam had ANY history of hurting pure US interests. UBL DID! Interestingly, I saw a huge increase in hostility around Israel and EXPECTED pure US interests to get attacked.

Yeah, I wondered about that also, but I saw it early, when it happened, and I didn't hear about the other two targets until much later. So EVEN if what I saw was pretaken footage, it was certainly NOT very old. BTW I saw the plane APPROACHING the tower. It WAS flying LOW!

Ladies and gentlemen! There *****IS****** another film, unless they showed it LIVE! This was NOT the one I saw! The one I saw didn't show the firemen, and I clearly saw the plane like MILES from the building! The one I saw was more to the right, and those buildings in the foreground weren't in it. It was closer. Towards the end of this film, there are shots that are about the right distance, but AFTER the fire.

Also, there are a plethora of videos showing the second plane from every which angle, but there is only one shot of the first plane hitting the tower* - the one referred to above made by the French documentary makers the Naudet brothers.

What I saw was very fluid, like it was one film.

If you can point me in the direction of another shot of the first plane, I will be happy to believe you.

I watched a documentary last night about the firemen in 9/11.

One firehouse had a rookie on the crew and they had a guy filming him, making a documentary. Then the planes hit and the crew all went to get people out of the towers. The documentary was subsequently about the towers and that particular firehouse crew. It is the only crew that did not lose anyone that day. It was incredible to watch them. They were filmed in the building, outside, while towers were still falling, and at the firehouse as the members came in one after another and they waited...waited to see if everyone came back.

After all the continued chirping I heard from the news, nobody, and nothing, could ever bring that story home like the very fire fighters who were there - and watching them while they were there.

It was an amazing story -- and they are amazing men. It saddens me to know that several have now died from cancer caused breathing the toxic dust looking for survivors. And it enraged me beyond description to watch the film of two politicians standing there behind their little podiums telling them that they didn't need respirators - they were not in danger, the dust was not toxic. 2 of them. After watching those heroes in action during the actual event - then to see that. Those politicians need to be in jail for willful murder. I wonder what luxury they got from the money they saved by killing those brave men.

Yeah, it is SICK! If you think about it, the firefighters went in there TOTALLY unprepared! I mean NO ladder, as they are too short! NO water, as it doesn't go high enough! Little fire resistance, as they had to go SO far! Little air, as they had to go SO far! That they were able to do ANYTHING should be highly appreciated. Do they even train for this?

They really SHOULD stop making buildings SO tall. It is ironic that the Bible says that something such as this separated the people, and NOW people are trying to challenge one another to build them ever higher! But there are a LOT of problems with building buildings SO tall! Some FEW even think about. ONE example? As they get taller, MORE people have to be able to move Between floors. To accommodate them, you need more elevators! EVENTUALLY, they can take up much of the space. And what of water pressure, power outages, etc...?

Funny TRUE story, I heard of a guy once that was VERY rich! He owned what, at the time, was like the third largest advertising firm in the country. He actually OWNED the huge highrise he was in. One time, he was STUCK in the building, and had to stay the night. WHY? Well, it was very late on friday, and he slipped up. He was jewish, and the sabbath started so, not being able to even flick a power switch, he couldn't leave. It was forbidden to even hit the call button for the elevator. OK, maybe the power didn't go out, but he got a taste of what it would be like if it had!

BTW did YOU know that SOME have suggested elevators that run ALL night and stop at every floor JUST to prevent the problem HE had? I wonder how much power THAT wastes!

WOW! There is history of footage being "lost" and facts mistated, and theories changing, and THAT is just stuff that has been claimed that is FACT.

HECK, remember JEWEL? They said he fit "The profile". ******BULL******! He didn't fit THE profile AT ALL! He fit ***A*** profile tailor made for HIM! So he had nails, fertilizer, and lived with his mother. WHOOPIE! THAT made him GUILTY?

THE profile called for him to be a MUSLIM ARAB extremist. But you would likely have known that ONLY if you were watching when this started, BEFORE they started looking at HIM!

EVEN his wikipedia page doesn't show that!

I could state another that was contrived, hurt MANY cities in the US, etc.... After the first few days, it seemed the footage was just GONE!

So sometimes you will fall prey to the conspiracy nuts if you don't see the earliest info.

BTW I doubt those towers were in line with an airport. If they weren't, the planes would probably be closer to 20K+ feet, as opposed to the maybe 1K of where this one hit. THAT would have been enough to attract MY attention. THAT is why I watched it hit the tower! If I were there with a camera, I WOULD have aimed there. The person that shot the footage YOU linked to probably wanted to do the SAME, and DID after he or she figured the current target had run its course.

On that day I was on a field trip with the elementary school. And right after the terror attack, the sky was full of fighter jets (even here in Norway). And when I came home, I ate sausages for dinner!

I was 10 years old at that time.

I was at my sister's house talking to her in her living room. I caught this picture on her big screen TV out of the side of my eye of a skyscraper on fire but didn't pay much attention thinking it was a disaster movie or something. I continued my conversation while occasionally looking back at the television and suddenly realized that they don't show the same scene for 10 minutes in a movie. Then it hit me this was real, turned up the volume on the TV and ... well, you know the rest.
