Although I am a dyed in the wool Host4Profit customer, I have bought a bunch of domains for a project I am working on and I find Hostgator pricing (unlimited domains $7.95) to be more affordable.

Please tell me your experiences both positive and negative about downtime, customer support, etc.

Thanks.

Hey there Sister P! Was wondering where you went.

I have a hostgator acct. and I'd recommend it. It's something almost $10 a month, unlimited sites and domains. As long as I don't go over the bandwidth, which I don't.

If I have a problem, I submit a support ticket and get a reply within a few hours.

There has been downtime occassionally which of course I don't like. But it's not often.

I have a reseller account there - very smooth, little down time, good support.

I prefer reseller accounts because I want a cpanel for each site and like the ease of WHM management.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

        Thanks very much all.

By the way there is a coupon code on their site until February 1 to save 20% on initial order (could be 1 or more months)

Kim - yeh I have used cpanel before and know it is different from webpanel - i will get used to it i guess.

Been with Hostgator for years, never think of going elsewhere.
Top notch 24/7 support with english speaking support. Can't
beat the price and feature for a reseller account.

They are good but every now and then somebody seems to have a problem with them. I never have in 3 years.

I had a shared hosting account at another hosting company, but it had a domain limit of 20... I changed recently to Hostgator because they offered unlimited domains for the same price. And it works like a charm. I have never had any problems with them and the admin interface is cool (cPanel).

I've been with the Gator for about a year and can't fault them. Support and tools etc are excellent. You could also look at namecheap for the domains tho. With them you can get free ssl certs on all .com domains and the price is about $10.

Patrician, I was a H4P customer for, well, almost forever because I still have one site hosted with them, but I got to the point I had so many sites that made it mosre cost effective to switch, and I switched to Hostgator .
I now pay $25 a month, can host as many sites as I want/need and like Kay said, you get CPanel with each site and WHM management.
I think the only thing that you would need to adjust to is the CPanel as it's entirely different than H4P.

I have a reseller acct with HG and I'm not switchin' for nothin'. They
have their issues like anywhere else but for all the problems I've had
other places they are minimal. I have a couple of sites that won't
show up in China but I've determined that the problem isn't HGs.

I can also vouch for HostGator. They work great for me and I've rarely had any downtime with them. In the rare case of downtime a email to them and they would get back to me with the details and an estimated time for the servers working again. The times it happened to me they normally had a forum post with the details that they linked me to so I could follow that to see what the problem & progress was.

Also if I had any problems with my account they have a live online chat service and the techs there are very helpful and were able to fix most of my issues on the spot. The few they couldn't were solved with an email to their supervisor who responded quickly.

I have been with HostGator for a few years now, and they are exceptional in the fact that my site has never had any downtime, and I can get them on the phone in a matter of minutes if I have a question.

There was one time that my site had some problems with my PHP include files (they started displaying errors instead of the included files) but they fixed that in a matter of minutes.

Hostgator is good epecially what you get for the price. I only had them for a month because they have alot of restictions. They do not allow mirror site - in otherwords anything that looks even close to myspace, youtube or any other site that would use too much bandwidth so if you want to build any site like that then forget about using them. They told me this in person unless I want to have my own dedicated server for $169 a month or whatever.
They also do not support ffmpeg and other software that many sites rely on so if you want video on your site then you can forget that too.
Otherwise if you just want to host a bunch of generic sites. It's probably the way to go.

        Thanks

I have been with Hostgator for awhile now. I have played around with other hosting companies before, but since getting Hostgator I have never looked back.

Their support is seriously always online... I have called them many times and they are always very nice and help me with whatever I need. Plus they are all native english speakers.

One time I called because I was having a problem adding on a new domain. When I talked to their support, the man told me not to worry about it and that he would install it himself. So I didn't have to do anything and within just a little bit my domain was up and running.

I give them a thumbs up for sure.

Hostgator still looks good to me and is still an option. But it does have its detractors although they have not responded here.

As part of my comparative analysis I have also looked at BlueHost.com and KnownHost.com

Bluehost is even cheaper than Hostgator - KnownHost over twice as expensive and sounds a little too technical for me -

So any input on either of these two would also be appreciated, either positive or negative.

(I called Hostgator to ask some questions and the guy was really nice - I couldn't resist telling him how you all love them and it made his day).

    Thanks everyone for your help.

      G`day Pat,

can`t go wrong with Hostgator, been with them
for almost two years and whatever problems I`ve
had are sorted PDQ. Just the support alone is
reason enough to go with them ...

You don`t have to worry about the learning curve
with CPanel, you just watch the videos inside the
console to learn what you want ....... so I don`t
know what sjkstone is on about ... I also run
      video on a few sites.

I also run and test a lot of software on Hostgator
and two other hosting accounts ... only had two
      that wouldn`t run on Hostgator.

One wouldn`t run because to do so would lower the
security below the standard ... rather a safe server
than a script that puts all my sites at risk. The other
wouldn`t run on any test site I tried .. lol

So I switched to Hostgator and have been happy ever since.

I had a total nightmare with a previous web host.

And since I've been with Hostgator, just over a year, been total smooth sailing no bumps in the road.

Their support was awesome when I needed it, some of the best tech support I have ever had in fact.

I have to say tho, no luck whatsoever with their affiliate program. I've given up. Maybe I was sending clicks from the wrong niche or something, but I've sent them thousands of clicks and zero conversions.

Are you signed up through CJ or their in-house program? From my understanding, their in-house program is the way to go.
