The thoery is about as simple as it gets:

    Eat Less, Move More
The difficulty is that people try to do it by "going on a diet". This is taken to mean a temporary change or quick fix that will only take a short amount of time. Then they want to go back to doing what got them to be overweight in the first place.

For sustained weight loss and health improvement there needs to be a lifestyle change.

So you need to figure out how to change your lifestyle - and actually do it.

Most people already know how to lose weight - the bit they have a problem with is doing it.

I have for many years been feeding a 200# body. That means I've been giving it just enough calories to maintain that weight. One of my little idiosyncrasies is to have some crackers with peanut butter and jam and a small glass of milk just before going to bed.

I don't want to weigh 200#, I want to weigh 180#, so recently I have stopped doing the midnight snack thing and expect that over time my weight will have to reflect the deficiency it will be experiencing. I know it's not a big change but like so many alterations in lifestyle a little now can make a large change given enough time.

Another thing that has happened, I'm guessing it's because I seriously want to drop some weight, I've had to cut back on how much sugar I use in my coffee. I used to have a heaping plus spillover amount of sugar now it's too rich and I only use a normal teaspoon.

Now it's just simple math. If I cut my calories by a couple hundred it has to show up on the scales sooner or later. Either way I can live with it. If it takes a year no problem. I've been going to do something about it for at least 20 years so what's a year or two.

I hope this helps to give you some encouragement. My suggestion:don't diet! As someone has already mentioned it's about lifestyle change and you can do that in small ways the same way others can do in bigger ways. Lifestyle lasts a lifetime. Take advantage of the time factor and you will accomplish your objective.

PS: Soda pop has something like 10-12 teaspoons of sugar in each can. Next time you want a pop think of all that sugar just waiting to become weight on you. :-)

I created a form of fitness and weight loss called Joyful Fitness which helped me lose 4 inches of belly fat in 2 months. My wife has had amazing results also.

I found that only 5% people love exercise and fitness activities. Most people dislike it and they quit. I asked myself how would I change fitness so that it becomes very enjoyable, and so I would never quit.

Joyful Fitness is very different but it works extremely well for almost everyone who starts it because you don't feel like quitting.

Here are some videos that are on the site (there are tons more because I tried to find all similar types of fun activities that people would love). It is not just the activities but how people think of fitness.

Joyful Fitness is doing things for purpose of enjoyment rather than with eye on results. Kids focus on playing all the time. Their focus is not on fitness, but on playing, and they get plenty of fitness done anyway. That was the idea behind Joyful Fitness. (Joyful Fitness also has specific fat loss methods built in)

Now it has been several months and I am never going to quit. I know I will do it this way permanently because it is fun. I am becoming fitter now than anytime before in my life and I am 51.

Then I started researching how to expand this concept to all types of activities, not just fitness. I asked myself will I feel better about my life and get better and faster results if I focus on deliberate joyfulness in all areas? I started a couple threads on this forum on deliberate joyfulness and people's opinions are almost 100% that one can get better and faster results in anything using deliberate joyfulness. See the thread here.

Although, I am not fat per say, I am always looking for natural ways to continue my good health.

I came across an article recently about Apple cider vinegar that caught my eye.

I applied to my daily routine to find that I lost over 1kg over 10 days. Please note, I did not change anything else in my routine so that I could monitor the effect.

The article suggesed for daily maintenance, weight loss and pH balancing:

2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar
    16 ounces of water
    Sip, don't chug!

However, due to the taste, I have adoped a minor change to the recipe:

2 teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in 8 oz of water. Add honey to taste.

    Hope it helps.

One of the most important elements in weight loss is starting on a healthy diet. It is amazing what you can eat, feel satisfied, all while eating healthy. Just as important is reading the label. You would be amazed to find out what is in "low fat" supposed to be good for you items you may be consuming that are actually causing you to increase your weight! Please feel free to review my blog site, where there are many articles, videos, books and programs you may find very helpful. The most important thing is don't give up! It is NOT you that is failing your diet, but very likely it is your diet that is failing you!

I'm a certified fitness professional. Helped hundreds of people lose weight over the years and I can tell you the formula is simple. You can start losing weight this very moment.

    Here's the secret:

Use more energy than you consume.

Create a caloric deficit in your body and the inevitable outcome is a loss in mass (and volume!).

Roughly, I'd say if you were 170 pounds, your body consumes 1,700 calories a day just to breathe, maintain your core temperature, think, digest, etc. Add your daily actives such as walking, swimming, exercise and the likes and your likely to be around 2,100 calories to maintain your bodyweight as it is. These are rough estimates.

So quite simply, if you restrict your energy (caloric) intake by just 500 calories a day, over a 7 day period you would be at 3,500 deficit if you change nothing but how much you consume. Add an increase in exercise to that, and that number increases significantly.

Realistically, by restricting your caloric intake, keeping stress levels low and increasing your movement through mild to moderate exercise you can expect to lose 2-3 pounds a week.

Now, have you ever seen a pound of FAT? It's ALOT. Imagine shedding 2-3 of those from your body every week. Not only will you be depleting stored energy in the form of fat, but also toxins stored in the fat cells, excess water weight and bloat. Your energy levels are likely to rise significantly as a result of using less energy for digestion as well as toning the central nervous system through mild-to-moderate exercise.

However, all weight loss (unless there is a genetic or medical complication) can be summarized as follows:

Use more energy than you consume.

Once your body begins to lose that weight, you'll feel hungry as your body has an urge to return to it's previous state of homeostasis. You must give yourself time to adjust to your new body weight, and fight off those hunger pains for a few days, you're body will adapt and recalibrate it's self to your new mass in a matter of days, so resist the urge to splurge once you see progress.

This man speaks nothing but the truth. This is exactly how I lost the weight...

I could never lose a pound, regardless how much I worked out.

Then I realized what my problem was: Apparently, I was not creating a deficit.

So I started counting my calories by eating mainly frozen meals, and the weight loss began *the very next week.* Non-stop.

But before you start, it's very important for you to know how many daily calories your body burns on its own (maintenance calories.) To find out, go to Google and search for "BMR Calculator."

A BMR calculator will tell you roughly how many calories you burn each day on a sedentary status (meaning, how many calories you burn even if you don't do anything.)

Once you have that number, it's a lot easier for you to create that deficit because now you know when you're getting close to it. This way you can avoid reaching it

      Hope that helps!

There are so many things to be said on this topic, that you can write a book.

Actually the best tip would be to choose a best-selling book or weight-loss program and stick to it.

Even though you will then find a lot of contradictory information on other websites, just stick to that initial plan and follow it until the end. Most of the times it will work, but in case it won't...you simply discovered what doesn't work on your body. Then you can try a different approach and use the information you learned from the first "experiment".

not sure if it's that simple, Bill.

All well and good, but there is still quality of life to consider.... not mention healthy body - healthy mind.

The biggest problem people have with diet is, that they focus on what they don't can eat and suddenly they are craving for all kind of food that is not good for them.

My tip is to eat what ever you want, but cut down your portion, think about to shrink your stomach. You should also focus on home cooked meal, they are healthier and without chemicals. One tip a doctor gave me many years ago was, that you should leave a table before you feel full.

I also got these two tips from someone a few years ago. Not sure why but I remembered them.

      1) Always leave something on your plate.

The "eat everything on your plate" thing came from scarcity during tough times most of our parents had. Now most of us have more than enough so there's no need to eat everything.

      2) Stop on the FIRST full signal.

After spending over 5,000 hours 1 on 1 with my personal training clients it is absolutely clear to me that Mindset is the key, the magic that will almost ensure success or pretty much guarantee fat loss failure...the quality that sets apart those with results from those with excuses.

95% of people with a fat loss goal who focus on diet and exercise alone will FAIL.

It's important to consider how (& if?) your program will fit in with your ideal lifestyle LONG TERM...there’e no joy in an ideal body & zero quality of life.

My approach is to focus on effective mindset 1st - to put Brain b4 Body making fat loss natural & your new body sustainable because it aligns your fat loss goal with everything that you value, excel at & love.

If you 'know what to do with regard to your fat loss goal, but don't do what you know' (less energy in, more energy out SOUNDS simple!) then Mindset is the key that will set you free from the stop, start, frustrating failed fat loss roller-coaster-ride.

  • Weight loss is simply the process of building new habits. I have been most successful by picking one habit and replacing it with something better. For example, 2 donuts at 11:00pm can be replaced by 2 peaches as an example.

The best way is a full-scale lifestyle change. Y'know, saying adios to junk food and alcohol, instead embracing fruit, vegetables, lean meats, exercise.

If you are not willing to commit to that, then old fashioned calorie control is what has been shown to work over and over again. Just pick a form of calorie control that works for you. In 99% of cases that won't mean a fad diet...

It's all about calories. It's just that simple! Use sites like myfitnesspal to log what you're eating. Start with eating as you usually do, not less not more. See how many calories you eat per day, and then cut 300 calories from your daily income. You'll start losing weight, and after sime time, when you'll stop losing, you have to cut another 100-300 calories and that's all. It takes time, but it won't ruin your metabolism

Try to take care about what you eat: Eat carbohydrated and fats before 2 p.m., after 2 p.m. only raw veggies and meat. Drink at least 2l of pure water per day and you will want to eat less than usually.
If you want to loose weight healthily and fast, find a fitness instructor and organise a fitness challenge (30 days or 60 days)- this means that you should get at least 1 hour of sport every single day (even if you're feeling bad or even if the weather is awful) and you'll see results after 2 weeks already.

There's no doubt that the treadmill / running can burn more calories per hour than cycling but if your knee gives you a hard time you may not have much of a choice.

eat 2 banana before big meal so that you feel full. If you can,try to eat small meal 5-6 times/day,eat less carbs and stay away from sugarcoated food. Dont be fool with diet soda,my wife bro-in laws is much bigger drinking diet soda only.

This routine work for me all the time even at the age of 48, im still in good shape & i thanks God for that.

      janjensen,

You are going to hear a lot of different opinions about this, obviously.

I have done many things with fitness, one of which is consulting with the military about it.

I think it's more complicated than people think...even more complicated than the good ole "energy deficit" theory, or calories in, calories out.

If I had a dime every time a FITNESS PROFESSIONAL reached a point where even they, too, struggled, I'd be mega rich. The problem is that many of our "opinions" are just assumed.

Is this to say that we are the only creature on the PLANET that cannot regulate our weight to some degree? Fact: obesity has increased every year for the past 50. Maybe we're missing something?

Weight gain or loss has to do with several factors, influenced by conditioned body mechanisms, genetics, environment, etc.

It just might be that your body is conditioned, at the moment, to store fat. I would strongly recommend eating ONLY REAL food.

I also have a ton of resources that don't involve counting calories. It's much simpler than that but it works. Happy to chat if you need. I'd be happy to help! Good luck!

        A few helpful tips-
Set a goal for an event several months in advance; examples being trip to beach or perhaps a fun run, mud run Etc.

Eat a handful of nuts 20 min before each meal to help curb appetite.

Drink large glass of water anytime during the day you start to feel hungry.

Start an exercise program , even a few min a day will do. Gradually add to it over time - looking for a peak. A good start would be Joe Weider Mr America Course - free online ( google search it).

A Frank Roudolph Young ( ie Mike Marvel ) trick- flex your hands into fists tightly as well as your calves a few times as you visualize your stomach shrinking and not being very hungry before each meal to curb appetite.

Eat 6 whole fresh raw fruits or vegtibles each day.

        GOOD LUCK

It comes down to a couple of things. Choose better foods to eat, and possibly less of them. Choose to exercise more.

Notice that I said "choose"? Because YOU can choose almost any diet plan to get good results, but the secret ingredient is YOU. Exercise your will to shape the body that you want and that you deserve.

pretty simple like others have said.

stop eating junk, and get out there, pull out your finger, and ride a bike, run, jog, swim, make love, walk up stairs 2 times a day in a large office building, get a tread mill, do push ups, sit up, walk your dog, paddle board etc etc

So many thing you can do, to lose weight, its not about doing it for a day and thinking this is not working, its a lifestyle change.

Basically you can thank me, cause I gave the secrets that most $400 manuals give you. LOL...haha.

People just gotta get off arse, and MOVE....and stop eating sugary junk.

dieting is a wrong way, because what you are basically doing is trying to go against your body [artificial] needs and mind habits.
Dieting, if you are not doing some religious fasting, you get unhappy, even depressed. Then a feeling of guild arises.... Crap!
The smart way is a healthy way -- build a habit of regular (!it's very important), jogging or swimming. A perfect way is to do it at the same time each day you practice it, until you develop a habit, stop being miserable and suffering and get to the point where you feel pleasure from this activity. No more weighting and stuff, you are just happy from your running or swimming, you feel your body and its needs much better. Both are cool -- you and your body.

Well, while there are many ways to loose weight the best one is to eat nutritious foods and exercise every day, doing different types of exercises every day. For example today you can do aerobics and tomorrow you can run 10 miles, the day after that you may go to a swimming pool and make some laps. For diets motivation is your best and worst enemy at the same time, it may help you taking pictures after each week that you have exercised and eaten healthy so that you can track your progress and keep your motivation levels high.

I second the recommendation of Ferriss's Four Hour Body...while I have issues with certain chapters, it's a great starting resource. It'd be hard to get on and stick with a program that someone half-described to you on a forum, so read up on something (anything) to get rolling.

If you're up for something a little more unorthodox though fast becoming mainstream, try out intermittent fasting. I've used the Eat Stop Eat model of doing two 24 hour fasts a week, and it was the easiest thing I've done to cut weight.

All you do is pick a 24-hour period, such as from dinner Sunday night to dinner Monday night, and fast. Nothing with calories allowed (including sugar in your coffee), and you should drink tons of water. The rest of the week eat within maintenance. Those few missed meals in the 24 hour fast period add up quickly, and you're still eating plenty 5 days a week so it's not like your cravings are going to destroy you.

Wow, this subject has a lot of traction. Lots of great answers.

Health, diet, exercise - those things (like making money) require a process to work. The processes mentioned above in many of the posts are accurate. Eat less, Eat healthy, workout, etc... They "work" as long as you work the process and make it a priority. But the minute you abandon the process your body gets bigger, fatter, less efficient, etc...

So the key to losing weight and keeping it off is..
    #1. Make it a priority
#2. Learn to enjoy the process

And remember - there is no end point in the process. There is only refinement.

    Hope that helps,

I myself lost 24 kg in about 6-7 months, and i did it without going on a diet.

Going on a diet will not work, sure you might lose some weight while you are on the diet, but after your done with it then? You will probably go back to your old habits again and gain back the weight fast.

Going on a diet is a short term sollution for a permanent problem. It will not work. You have to make a lifestyle change. You have to change your eating habits, and what you eat. And you need to start exercising.

You just need to eat less and move more, it really is that simple. Just cut out all sodas and junk food and processed food, and only get fresh food and cook it your self.

One of my friends actually lost over 12 kg just because he quit drinking coke every day.

Losing weight is not hard, it is not rocket science, people just over complicate things.
Burn Calories > Calories eaten = weight loss. It really is that simple. Don't over complicate it.There is no quick solution, just as their is no quick fix for making money online. You have to be in it for the long term or it will not work.

The most important part is to remove sugars and starches (carbs) from your diet. These are the foods that stimulate secretion of insulin the most. If you didn't know already, insulin is the main fat storage hormone in the body. When insulin goes down, fat has an easier time getting out of the fat stores and the body starts burning fats instead of carbs.

Each one of your meals should include a protein source, a fat source and low-carb vegetables. Constructing your meals in this way will automatically bring your carb intake into the recommended range of 20-50 grams per day.

Exercise at least 3-4 Times Per Week. You don't need to exercise to lose weight on this plan, but it is recommended. The best option is to go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Do a warm up, lift weights, then stretch.

A lot of people make working out and losing weight and dieting a big deal. Simplify. You don't have to sign up for a boot camp class or marathon to lose weight in one month. Simply make a pledge to move more. If you don't exercise at all, add a 30-minute walk to five of your weekdays.

If you already exercise, try doing intervals, short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by equal periods of low-intensity exercise, which helps your body become more efficient at burning fat.

You may have to shake up your routine if you are stuck in a rut. Your body becomes accustomed to the step class on Monday, run on Tuesday, walk on Wednesday routine. In this case, trying a new class or activity could be the challenge your body needs to enhance calorie burn and drop pounds in one month.

      A 30 minute walk doesn't count that much ...

I have a FitBit. It records every step I take and it provides detailed analytics including how many calories I burn.

I walk about 1500 steps every 15 minutes and 1000 uphill. That's not much. You need to walk for a minimum of 10000 steps daily (which means two hours) in order to burn considerable calories.

What I suggest is running on a treadmill. I hate running outdoors but I find it so easy to run on a treadmill and watch a movie in the same time.

But to be honest, I'm 1.86 and 72 kg. That means 6 ft and 160 pounds so it is not hard for me to lose weight. It is harder to gain.

I disagree strongly. 30 minutes walking can do miracles! It is subjective. And it depends on who you are, what your body make up is and remember that different diets and work outs work for different people.

I would add that you should add strength training to your weight-loss routine, because you'll preserve muscle while reducing fat. You'll not only fit into a smaller pants size, but your body will look lean, too.

Wow to lose in 1 month is a huge goal. A lot of factors affect the rate at which you lose weight, but calories in versus calories out is one you can control. Calories are the energy found in food, and about 3,500 of them make up a pound.

To lose weight, there is no BEST WAY. You can trim 3,500 to 7,000 calories per week from your eating plan. Shrink the portions you put on your plate and refuse second helpings.

Replace some of the higher-calorie foods you eat, such as sweets and fries, with fresh fruit and salad.

Reduce or completely eliminate sugared drinks from your diet to further trim calories. You don't want to trim calories below 1,200 per day however.

You'll experience serious drops in energy and potential deficiencies in nutrition, even in one month. Start slow and see what works best for you.

I have found a 30 minute walking to supplement with diet a good mix.

Most people have a hard time getting started, because they're thinking too big and then they wonder what's the best way to lose weight.

Say you want to try by exercising. You may be thinking that you have to do these intense workouts 5 days a week. No -- instead, do small, tiny, baby steps. Just do 2 minutes of exercise. I know, that sounds wimpy. But it works.

Commit to 2 minutes of exercise for one week. You may want to do more, but just stick to 2 minutes. It's so easy, you can't fail. Do it at the same time, every day. Just some crunches, 2 pushups, and some jogging in place.

Once you've done 2 minutes a day for a week, increase it to 5, and stick with that for a week.

In a month, you'll be doing 15-20. Want to wake up early? Don't think about waking at 5 a.m. Instead, think about waking 10 minutes earlier for a week. That's all. Once you've done that, wake 10 minutes earlier than that.

The key is to take baby steps.

Hi Janjenson, I'll not beat around the bush. The honest answer is: most people already know. Living a healthy, active lifestyle, while keeping to a healthy diet.

If a person who believes they are overweight wishes to lose weight I actually recomend to get dancing lessons - or tennis - or netball - or swimming, something which is both intense and enjoyable.

After 3 months of regularly attending a hip-hop dance class... results are one of lifes facts/promises/gurentee's.

Getting a sweat on is what shreds that weight off, improves your cardio system and you health on the whole.

The 'problem' with excersise, as I see it to be 'out there', is usually to do with enjoyment. An 'overweight' person or anyone starting a new excersise routine might summon the determination to get up early, get into the joggers, down the road and around a local park for a mile or more - but, if they don't enjoy that form of exercise it's unlikely they will stick to the routine and most certainly fights against their motivation.

Whereas if you take a look at sports: gymnastics, athletics, football, tennis - enjoyable action or intense sports (of which running or long distance; like many fitness routines include; is only a very small part) - get people in shape in no time at all & develop and benefit people in many other ways - not only does the client who is 'overweight' lose weight, they also gain better reflexs, and strength, and stamina, they make new friends and open new avenues for themselves.

The other aspect of losing weight, or getting and staying healthy is diet.

Diet should be and is really easy - eat what is good for you - don't eat what isn't good for you. Follow this simple rule and your diet should work itself out according to your own eating habits - but that's fine if you don't munch on any junk food and you learn to appriciate the delicousness of fruit or the wholesome delight of a cooked dinner with potatoe, meat and vegetables for example.

A wholesome diet like this will be needed anyway to maintain that wonderful new active, energetic lifestyle and all that goodness will contribute positively to real growth - it will help your muscles and bones grow stronger, your brain grow sharper.

This is the truth of the matter, as plainly as I can see it and this is what's important of it.

I think that most people who read this post will understand this and agree - however we humans have a tendency to look for the magic pill. The truth is the truth, and ultimately there is no magic pill, just giving a determined effort down that route called: "the truth" is the best way to go about getting what you want, and getting the most out of it.

In short - if you wish to lose weight:
    1) Get active: dancing, cycling, swimming, play-fighting, romancing, tennis etc - crack on with it, enjoy yourself.
    2) a] Eat what is good for you: delicious fruits, vegetables, meat, fish tiggle your fancy.
b] Do NOT eat what is bad for you: GM food, junk food, fizzy drink, sugar, microwave meals

You will see results. This is a fact.

    I know this.

    You know this.

    They know this.

If you help your client to understand this truth and find the drive to act on it: you will contribute to helping that clients life for the better.

Essentially the truth stands clear from error - and most of us know more than we like to give ourselves credit for - we must learn to act upon the truth and learn not to decieve ourselves into destruction.

Well that's my 2 cents worth on the matter anyway ...

    Hey,

If you are looking to lose weight FAST and keep it off, I highly recommend that you get the book Eat To Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

This book goes in depth on how people continue to eat the wrong things and never get any results. Plus, it includes tons of meal plans that you can follow without ever having to worry about portion sizes or counting calories.

I actually used this diet plan to get ripped up for spring break a few months back, and I kid you not, if you truly want to turn heads and change the way you look, this book will be your best bet! Most of the weight loss material and books available are full of lies. . . but this book exposes it all.

I promise that you will not regret getting this book! It is like a food Bible! :-)

    Hope this was helpful!

      That sums it up.

This thread probably should not have gone past the first few posts.

Proper diet = organic fruits, vegetables, seafood, seeds/nuts, moderate amounts of lean animal meat (not eating animal meat is healthier), 4-6 litres or 1.5 gallons of water

Exercise = moderate cardio 3 days a week for 20-30min each session, hitting heart-rate of 120-130 or at 60-70 VO2max + a few resistance training sessions lasting 20-30 minutes each

If anyone has specific questions, PM me.

There are many ways to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, but most of them require you to be hungry and unsatisfied.

Instead here is your 3 steps plan.

    1) Eliminate Sugars and Starches: Removing sugars and starches from your diet will lower your insulin levels, kill your appetite and make you lose weight without hunger.

    2) Eat Protein and Vegetables: You can take Eggs & Seafood for protein and vegetables like Cauliflower, Cabbage and Cucumber.

    3) Exercise 3-4 Times Per Week: It is best to do some sort of resistance training like weight lifting and walking.

    Hope it dose help.

Here is what I did to lose over 165 lbs. in about 2 years.
    1. Only start when you are finally sick, sick of seeing and being a lard ass. If your heart is really not in it you won't do it. This is a life style change not a diet. Go slow make changes to your diet by replacing, reducing or eliminating unhealthy foods. ie. if you like fast food and typically get 2 hamburgers 1 large fry , and a shake, slowly work down to just only the burger. Then stop buying fast food or junk food at all.

    2. Eat more quality protein Chicken, Tuna, beef , Turkey. Always eat the Protein first before the veggies. Protein makes you and keeps you feeling full and not hungry. Eat nut's the top 5 healthy one's they have protein and good fat they keep you feeling full and satisfied.

3.. Get rid of all sugar, milk and flour out of your diet. If it is white in color even natural don't eat it. It all basically breaks down to sugar in you system and spike blood sugar levels which is very bad .

    4. Read books daily on diet , exercise and nutrition, I recommend anything on the glycemic index or GI diet.

    5. Don't eat breakfast. Eat just two meals and maybe a small snack of needed. Try to stay with two and here's and important part I ate my first meal at 11 am and dinner at about 5 pm. Then stopped eating until the next day. If I needed something in my belly it was water. Your body will get used to this system.

6, Exercise at a regular time in the morning is best generally just to get it done first thing. I most of mime though in the evenings after work. I did Cardio for about 45 min sometimes up to 1:30 if I felt good. Listen to your body. But not if it says cut out early unless you are ill or hurt. Start with a goal of two days a week and work up to no less then 4. More if you want. I liked working out Friday, Sat. Monday and Tues.

    7. Have a free day but don't over do it. I had all you could eat salads at a nice place and maybe some ice cream. Do not leave feeling full you want to feel like you could eat more but don't.

    8. Track your progress weigh yourself daily in the morning. Set a goal of losing 6% targets. You weight 400 your first goal is 6% off of 400. You hit that goal do the same. Write your daily progress (weight and date) on a white board for everyone to see daily.

    9. Go on hikes camping or other physical activity with friends and family. I made goals to hike and camp at some big mountains.

    10. Be good to yourself don't beat yourself up. Take it slow and steady and remain positive and focused. If you feel weak or tempted stop and ask yourself "is this moving me closer to my goals or further away" Look at the tempting foods and tell yourself "that is poison" eating that will make me sick" or "that's crap" associate negative thoughts and feeling to the tempting foods and good thoughts and feelings to the good foods. Realize and tell yourself your health is the most valuable thing you have and you must take care of it and not take it for granted.

That's it in a nut shell. Make it an E book if you want. And if you need to learn how to gain weight just do the opposite. Good luck

I use some methods from Tim Ferries Book 4Hour Body.
I do some exercising and eat some of the food he recommends.
But the biggest change for me was that i left out all wheat.
For medical reasons i have to avoid wheat (allergic to it) and milk (lactose intolerance) and i lost 6 pounds in two weeks with out doing additional exercises or changing any thing else.
    Ok this is just me.
But after this initial change i started to eat legumes for breakfast (additional to bread) and my urge to eat almost vanished until midday. No second breakfast or snack urges any more.

A few people above recommended to start with small things like 2 min of exercise per day for a week. If you add small steps you suddenly are doing big things with out really knowing that you do them.

I'm a personal trainer and there are a few ways you can lose weight. This is probably not what you want to hear but you should and will have to do some type of cardio to burn off fat.

You can alter your diet all you want and you will lose "weight" , but there is no way to lose fat without actually exercising.

Don't forget that exercising is generally something you will feel good about at the end of the day as well as all the great factors that it brings to your body.

Habits are hard to brake, right? If you develop these three habits you are on your way.
    1. Do regular cardio endurance exercise 2 to 5 times per week.
    2. Do regular strength training twice per week.
    3. Eat a healthy and nutritious low calorie diet.

Going "on a diet" implies you will come off that diet at some point - this is short term and ineffective thinking. You have to understand that you should do these things for yourself - you are worth it!
Try to develop the good habits mentioned above - and ENJOY doing this _ and things will work for you!
